My half dozen or so, 1000yard shots over the past few years are my big claim to fame. Lol now I find a breezy day video of 2300 yards. That's damn impressive!

But that Chris Kyle reference wasn’t just a counter argument to what you said about a round out performing another round...it’s not the round homie, it’s the shooter...the round only really matters when it comes to power, speed as well as utility for things like armor piercing application...

That's some good shooting, period. I watched the wind blowing throughout this video and was quite impressed with his ability to get on target with so few shots for each caliber. I've hunted with both and found the 7mm Remington to be much easier to deal with on all levels. That being said, I use a 7x57 Mauser which has hardly any recoil and is great for my hunting needs of 25-175-ish yards for whitetail deer. Again, that was some great shooting!
Great shooting. I used your data, guessing at some, and plugged both cartridges into the JBM online ballistics program. It appears that the program doesn't quite agree with your drops. This is not too surprising considering the range. The program had the 300 dropping 110.8 moa and the 7 dropping 123.5 moa. A little surprising was the point at which they went subsonic 1750 for the 7 and 1900 for the 300, considering they only differed by 50fps at the target. Great fun once again.
Thanks man, yes most ballistic calculators get a little out of wack at these ranges, i tweak what I use with lots of data, to get them in tune, all good fun, Cheers and all the best.
What loads are you talking about? ..the best factory load i can find with siera match king bullets for 300 win mag becomes subsonic before reaching 1400 yards ...you must be talking about some unicorn load...what load is it if it exists i need to get my hands on some
Don't know if the 7mm got there more quickly unless you timed it and know for sure. The 7mm required 4 more elevation clicks than the 300... It starts faster but the heavy 300 retains velocity a bit better at that range.

Great video Plugged this in to my ballistics calculator for equal bullets. Im a huge 7mag fan myself. As fallows 300 WM 185 GRN BERGER 2900 FPS MUZZLE @ 500 YRDS 2100 FPS 1800 FT-LBS 1000YRDS 1450 FPS 850 FT-LBS AND @ 1500 YRDS 1000 FPS 450 FT-LBS Now for the 7 Mag as follows 180GRN Berger 2900 FPS MUZZLE @ 500 YRDS 2250 FPS 2000 FT-LBS 1000 YRDS 1650 FPS 1100 FT-LBS 1500 YRDS 1200 FPS 600 FT-LBS The further you shoot the more the 7Mag shines over the 300 WM. People don't like to hear this. They are pretty equal but the 7 Mag still has 200 FPS OVER THE 300 WM AND 150 FT-LBS more energy. You get all that and about 15 lbs less recoil.
It seems like everyone always likes to compare the heavier smaller diameter rounds (high BC) with the lighter rounds for a larger caliber(low BC). The 7mm may shoot flatter I have not looked at the ballistic charts for each round, but I'm almost positive that if you use the HEAVIEST 300 wm projectile with the heaviest 7mm projectile, the 300WM has more energy down range. Obviously the same weight projectiles moving at the same speed but one is thinner (higher BC) it will preform better and better over the other one the further down range it goes.
According to the Gundata.com ballistic calculator, a 195 grain .28 cal spitzer has .698 BC, while a .30 cal 230 grain spitzer has .717 BC. So with the exact same bullet construction and max weight projectiles, 300 WM has a higher BC. Either way my first statement is still correct, the 300 has more energy at any range with those two projectiles. Energies at 500 yards, 7mm=1,821 ft-lbs, 300WM= 2,319 ft-lbs. Even at 3000 yards, 7mm energy= 274, 300WM= 339. So at 3,000 yards it only has 65 ft-lbs more, which probably wont make much of a difference, but my first statement is still correct. The 300 WM has more energy at ANY range than the 7mm if both are using their heaviest, highest BC projectiles. The 300 also has less drop than the 7mm with these two bullets ,195 vs 230, with 54 inches drop for 7mm, 51inches for 300 both at 500 yards (300 WM also has less wind drift)
I also realize I just automatically assumed they are both standard spitzers, while the 7mms bullet may be more efficiently designed (better than standard spitzer) I was just stating that if the two projectiles were constructed exactly the same just the difference in caliber (28 vs 30), the 300 wins everytime. Higher BC, more energy, less wind drift, less drop, according to the ballistic calculator.
Great shots. Myself...I prefer the 300 win mag. Decent conditions but still some wind to deal with...so have congratulate U on a couple of great shots. Awesome to hit n so few shots from either gun!
MarkandSam AfterWork...how does the 7mm equate to caliber? The 300 wm is 30 caliber?? The 7mm was smaller by grains, but the 300 wm is larger n circumference??
MarkandSam AfterWork...Sorry to ask the size, but I've never shot or seen one n person. Awesome shooting & Sam does a great job as spotter too. Thanks again.
Really, well 7mm is diameter, just the same as 30 cal is diameter, one is metric and one is imperial like a.223 is the same size as 5.56mm. I think maybe you should do some basic research / reading on fire arms. Cheers all the best.
Pulled out my 300 for some shots today. Thought I’d look back at what you had done with the 300. Interesting seeing how your equipment has evolved over time since this video.
How many people in the world actually understand the complexity of that range?? I understand some but even the initial calculations are pretty overwhelming. When you can actually see the barrel move toward the scope during adjustments, that's skill.
I built me a custom wild cat hunting rifle that is a balance between your two rifles..... it is a blown out 7mm weatherby cartridge with a 37 degree shoulder and 91 grain capacity shooting the 195 grain berger hybrids with a bc1 of .755.... It shoots them with a velocity of 2970 with an extreme spread of 5 shots of only 5 ft/sec. I never calculated the sd's but it is very good. a lot of brass prep, weight sorted brass, powder charge less than .02 grains variation, bullet length of ogive sorted and by weight..... It has a custum cut single point barrel with a 1.3 inch diameter 4 inch long shank that tapers to .8 at muzzle.... no muzzle break, a lot of fun to shoot and a good long range gun for windy conditions for deer.....
MarkandSam AfterWork I just watched your 4k video.... very nice.... I was wondering how you were controlling the rear bag.... looked like a neat set up....
Thanks, we designed and make them our selves, we also make them to sell, if interested email us at mkelse@westnet.com.au and Sam will send you some details, Cheers
I would have liked to see a 180gr 300WM round against the 180gr 7MM. MV would have been very similar. Wind effect and I suspect SD would have also been closer to equal. Getting the powder weight a bit closer would be interesting also. Great team you have.
I have always been told 165 grain is the best for 7mm. I shoot winchester Ballistic Silvertip 140 grain. One reason is the health of my shoulder. The other is the speed of the 7mm does tend to shoot clean through without expanding. Ballistic tip helps with that. And i feel 140 grain is all that's needed for white tail. I did shoot a 30 lb pig once at 200 yards behind the shoulder with this round. Bullet never touched a bone. Just poked a hole clean through. He squealed and ran 15 yards before bleeding out. But man what a flat shooting round.
I love both calibers but If I had to choose I would go with to the 7mm , I I use one of the 7MM REM UlTRA MAGNUM and it's my most accurate Rifle . I fell in love with the 300 Win Mag shooting a friend's Savage , a great rifle too .
I am very curious to learn what twist rates your barrels are for these... Also a deep dive discussion on bullet stabilization for ELR vs LR would be very informative and entertaining!
2342 yards, wow that's beyond impressive. I do have a .300 Winchester magnum hunting rifle and it can shoot .25" to .50" inch groups at 200 yards using Hornady 168 grain bullets. I've never used Berger bullets before because I don't have loading data for them and I'm not sure if they have a reloading manual.
You need the right caliber for your needs. If I'm hunting Moose in Alaska (where I live), the 7mm is ok. But if I have wind as in the video, I'm thankful that my heavier .300 Mag round flies better In the cross wind. With bigger game, you need bigger and accurate lead down field to make an humane shot.
You added more detail on the question I asked you the other day about dealing with subsonic flight. Why don't you try the 180 gr. Hornady ELD-M for me, their cheaper. LOL Thanks Mark and Sam.
All things being equal I'm wondering if rifle twist makes any difference. Because they make 300 Win Mag in one in ten and one in eleven. But I believe 7 mm Remington mag is 1 in 9.45 in. I have shot 1 in 10 twist 300 Win Mag and 1 in 11 twist 300 Win Mag same barrel length and surprising difference of about 8% more energy with the faster twist.
My half dozen or so, 1000yard shots over the past few years are my big claim to fame. Lol now I find a breezy day video of 2300 yards. That's damn impressive!

Great shots. Myself...I prefer the 300 win mag. Decent conditions but still some wind to deal with...so have congratulate U on a couple of great shots. Awesome to hit n so few shots from either gun!
Thanks Charles, Cheers
Wow, even at that distance the 300 still smacked the hell out of the target.
Yes, great round and very capable out there, Cheers
7mm rem mag is king in my book luv mine, fast and flat...
Cheers
Pulled out my 300 for some shots today. Thought I’d look back at what you had done with the 300. Interesting seeing how your equipment has evolved over time since this video.
Awesome, Cheers
Great shooting spot!
Thanks Bruce
Actually pretty amazing at that distance.
cheers
How many people in the world actually understand the complexity of that range?? I understand some but even the initial calculations are pretty overwhelming. When you can actually see the barrel move toward the scope during adjustments, that's skill.
Nice shooting wish I was there I've been planning on buying a 300 or 7MM 7 AM rifle or uh truly again anyways nice suggestion keep watching
Thanks Cory, Cheers
Sounds like a nice rifle, and yeh would be fun to shoot, Cheers
MarkandSam AfterWork I just watched your 4k video.... very nice.... I was wondering how you were controlling the rear bag.... looked like a neat set up....
Thanks, we designed and make them our selves, we also make them to sell, if interested email us at mkelse@westnet.com.au and Sam will send you some details, Cheers
Great video, and some fine shooting! Well done.
Thanks Kent, Cheers
Up late editing this one pal. Great work as always. Keep them coming brother.
Yeh Dawesy, Thanks Man.
Great shooting!
cheers
Well done :) very good at shooting and tuning V8 cars :)
We do our best, cheers
Now that's quality couple time right there!
Yep, Cheers
I would have liked to see a 180gr 300WM round against the 180gr 7MM. MV would have been very similar. Wind effect and I suspect SD would have also been closer to equal. Getting the powder weight a bit closer would be interesting also.
Great team you have.
Thanks Tuna, but doesn't work quite like that, bc/mv combination is far more relevant out at extreme long range, Cheers
300 Windmag for the win.
Cheers
Great recoil management!
Cheers
Villamor78 how does he do it?
MarkandSam AfterWork how do you negate the recoil so well?
Holy Shit...... thats impressive
Cheers
I have always been told 165 grain is the best for 7mm. I shoot winchester Ballistic Silvertip 140 grain. One reason is the health of my shoulder. The other is the speed of the 7mm does tend to shoot clean through without expanding. Ballistic tip helps with that. And i feel 140 grain is all that's needed for white tail. I did shoot a 30 lb pig once at 200 yards behind the shoulder with this round. Bullet never touched a bone. Just poked a hole clean through. He squealed and ran 15 yards before bleeding out. But man what a flat shooting round.
Cheers
Impressive, considering the wind damn impressive
Cheers
2 great American cartridges!!
Cheers
finding it hard to believe 7mm drops more, good video
Yes out past 2000 the better bc of the 230 grain takes over, Cheers
Nice shooting, nice rifles! cheers from New England
Thanks Man, Cheers
Hello from USA, Great shooting mate, keep up the great work
Thanks Dustin, Cheers
That’s a long poke.🎯 great shooting!
Cheers
Great video, superb shooting skills, thanks for sharing.
Glad you liked and thank you, Cheers
Another great video,thanks guys
Thanks Nick, was a while ago, glad you liked, Cheers
nothing like a 30-30 at 29 yards, iron sights, in chest waders..... on a MOOSE...done deal
sounds great, Cheers
Swamp Donkey Dinner.... Nice.... 29 yds does get the adrenaline pumping
I love both calibers but If I had to choose I would go with to the 7mm , I I use one of the 7MM REM UlTRA MAGNUM and it's my most accurate Rifle . I fell in love with the 300 Win Mag shooting a friend's Savage , a great rifle too .
Cheers
The one that is cheaper to shoot for the common Joe is the one I would pick.
Cheers
very nice comparison 👍
cheers
I am very curious to learn what twist rates your barrels are for these... Also a deep dive discussion on bullet stabilization for ELR vs LR would be very informative and entertaining!
All videos we have done, all on the channel, Cheers
@@markandsamafterwork Oh super!... thank you i will watch them indeed. Cheers!
Excellent work, good comparison, it would be good if you could do this again in the future once you have more data on the 7mm.
Cheers, thanks for that Joseph.
Phenomenal gentlemen! Phenomenal! Great job!
Cheers
The 7mag didn't have as much drop did it.. the 300 was low, but that 7 didn't need as much comp for drop. Awesome video
Thanks Man, and as said, yes but very, very little difference, Cheers
Thank you for the great video!
Cheers
2342 yards, wow that's beyond impressive. I do have a .300 Winchester magnum hunting rifle and it can shoot .25" to .50" inch groups at 200 yards using Hornady 168 grain bullets. I've never used Berger bullets before because I don't have loading data for them and I'm not sure if they have a reloading manual.
Thanks Michael, Cheers
G1 bc difference .037 for the 300 win mag 3.5 moa less than 7mm 85 inches @ 2342 extra drop
G1 bc for 7mm 180g Berger Hybrid .683 for 300 230g Berger Hybrid .743
Great job! Greetings from Austria!
Cheers
You need the right caliber for your needs. If I'm hunting Moose in Alaska (where I live), the 7mm is ok. But if I have wind as in the video, I'm thankful that my heavier .300 Mag round flies better In the cross wind. With bigger game, you need bigger and accurate lead down field to make an humane shot.
Cheers
Love my T/C Compass 300WM!
Cheers
Impressive!
Cheers
excelent shooting, best videos on youtube!
Thanks Man, Cheers
That is some awesome shooting.
Cheers
Have both.... LOL! Nice video. Thank you for your information.
Cheers
Awesome shooting
Cheers
You added more detail on the question I asked you the other day about dealing with subsonic flight. Why don't you try the 180 gr. Hornady ELD-M for me, their cheaper. LOL Thanks Mark and Sam.
Maybe if we work out a deal for testing bullets, I will gets lots in and test, but for my own use I have and like the Bergers, Cheers
I was just joking but thanks for your reply.
From what I have seen, the twist makes little difference, just need the right twist for the bullet weight your running, Cheers
Very interesting, thanks for sharing!
Thanks Ken, Cheers
Fantastic! Those guns didn't recoil as much as I thought they would though.
Thanks Joe, well set up rifles and 100kg (220lb) behind them will help with that, Cheers
