- With the newest purchase of this 2016 Honda Rancher 420, the service history was unknown, and with Summer coming up I wanted to be sure all of the fluids were fresh and everything was functioning as it should.
So with the help of the best fluid company in the business, I walk you through a full service tutorial and show you how to change the front and rear differential fluid, as well as the engine oil and filter.
One of the most neglected service items other than oil, is the air filter, and sure enough we were greeted with a nice surprise when we popped the cover off of the air box.
I hope this helped some fellow Quad God's, be sure to visit www.amsoil.com/ for ALL of your fluid needs.

Thanks for posting this. I just did some work down at a nearby farm & was paid with a Honda Foreman 400 complete with winch & snowplow. It's totally functional & I want to keep it that way ☺️ 👍👍

I work for Amsoil! Thanks for using our products!
Simple and informative video. Thank you very much for posting.
Thx for the video, going to take care of my 420 rancher today.
Thanks for the service procedure! Amsoil has great products!
Thank you! Amazing company.
This was very well filmed and likable narrator, but he didn't explain what he was doing while doing it. Did not even say what fluid he was changing at each section. I have this ATV and need to do these services. More info would have helpful and needed.
Yep, not that good of a video regarding info and his camera shots were not very informative either, like, exactly WHERE is this on the ATV? If you're doing a video, a newbie could use a lot more info! Also, the intro was WAY too long. Just get to the point. Good quality video, though, good narrator, just not enough info if one is 'grading' youtubes.
I'm definitely buying one of these as my first quad bike man, love it!
U bought it
I bought a 2014 trx 500 footshift model a couple month back it is a weaponn
@@OriginalBikeSeatSniffer99 yeah they are!!
Love that laminar flow at 4:52 just always cool to watch.
The manual says to not put that much oil in the diff's. Only supposed to fill it until it comes out the "check hole."
Excellent. Thank you!
Sick video, 250l in the background needs some love dude
Oh boy is that a snap on screw driver what a flex
I am going to take care of my 2013 Rancher with the same oil you used.
Hiiii
Edit: first love the vids I'm currently out of a fourwheeler but saving up
Thank you .
great vid. you think it would be alright to use the Amsoil 75w80 that they use on the outboard lower units. someone told me that's what most people put in their atv because of going snorking are whatever water their going in besides mud thanks you
Oh.. I just mix mountain dew with the oil for a better viscosity (vegetable oil works too for the cold) dont worry about the smoke it happens. With the tie rods you just kick them and they'll click into place. 3500 bucks on marketplace and it still runs like a charm!
What you recommend doing after a Rancher is rolled on its side? I just checked fluid levels and looked for cracks in frame. That sound good?
Need that Crocs sponsor!
Well done!
Any grease fittings??? Wondering if the ‘22 is any different. Thanks
Nope not on these just bought a new one last year
Quad god!
Everytime Im about to start my rancher I have to pull off cover to air box and take out the mouse nest. It also connects to the back box behind break light. I tried moth balls and different things but had to resort to decon but even then I still get one in there now and again
A good habit to get into when changing fluids is to always install new crush washers.
Another habit I developed from running Yamaha ATV's is to pre measure out the amount of diff fluids and only pour that amount in. Working them hard in the deep snow would make them spit gear oil out the vent hose if you filled them til it came out the inspection plug.
Have a 20 year old rancher...never had any issues...did it the same way...there is a lot of space in the differentials for gear lube to expand...

Are there holes on the bottom where the battery goes for a reason or can I fill them in because mud gets in where my battery is and wires
Dude lol. No biggie but I was really watching to see when you check the oil level in your rancher do you thread the dip stick down or do not when checking the oil level. Thanks in advance for any info. I'm pretty sure you don't thread it back down n just let it ride on the housing.
Can you do oil temperature sensor change on a 350 rancher?? Lol
How about a coolant change?
Two oil plugs on my 2007- 500 Honda?
Look at that 250L back there on the lift. Would ya just look at it.
3qts of the engine oil...motorcycle oil too because the gears and engine oil are the same...o sorry...I see you got da good stuff!
Anyone have an idea of what wight that amsoil dif lube is? Amsoil doesn't state it and it just says gl5. Honda calls fof 80w90
I guess you think we got all day to watch this? Come on man!
They make a fast forward button ⏩
How do mice get in there without chewing through the air box?
There is a bolt on the rear differential that says “fill” you are supposed to open it when filling. Do not fill to the level of the top opening
Would been nice to say what u were doing. Pulled it apart and said nothing , said same for rear and had different fluid. Would been handy
Spark Plug ?
a 10:14 second amsoil commercial
How do we know how much to put in the difs
There’s an inspection hole
Did you use the “check hole” when filling the rear diff? Or just put a certain amount?
I was wondering the same thing! I hope so!
You just fill until it starts coming out of the top hole. Which is the same one you are filling through. That's out the manual.
Not big on the name change 😐
You probably gained 50hp cleaning that air box 😂
You want the engine oil to be a bit black when you change it. That means that the detergents in the oil are doing their job and suspending all of the gunk in the oil so it gets removed when draining it. If you ever change engine oil(going by recommended intervals) and the oil looks the same as it did when it went in, change oil brands because it isn't cleaning the gunk out of the engine.
No you dont🤣 black oil is dirty oil...
Diesels are different
@@nothanks2994 If your oil isn't black, then all of that shit is staying in your engine.
Or you car just install black oil out of your diesel and say” it’s doing its job and suspending the gunk in the pil
No oil filter ?
It's at the 5 1/2 minute mark.
My ATV been sitting for about 5 years but I don’t wanna spend the money on getting scammed by servicing it

Couldn’t deal with the lengthy intro. Moving on
very dramatic in slow motion. Excellent vid tho,
Thanks David!
I’m I the only because I like changing oil hand getting my hands dirty
haha had me laughing
How much fluid, rear diff has a level hole??? Not a good video 😕
No one shake his hand lol 🐁🐭🐀
2 min intro?!? 💀
You should be wearing gloves if you’re touching dead mice lmao 🤣
read the book before making a video sorry
don't waste your time here, this is nothing more than an AMSOIL Commercial
