A step outside my "comfort zone" with this one - being mostly a truck modeller - with a motorcycle project.
2024 motorcycle group build hosted by GI Mechanic's Scale Modelling and Jamie G's Scale Model Garage with a Yamaha theme which was of extra interest to me due to my first two motorcycles being Yamahas.
I had some motorcycle kits in my collection but no Yamaha ones, and didn't locate any kits on the market of my 1:1 scale bikes: early 1980's Maxim 400 and XV920 Virago of similar vintage. I came up with this one in an interesting way: A book on Monogram Models mentioned a small batch of kits imported by Monogram back in the early 1980's that were made by a Japanese company called Union. I had actually bought a couple of these Monogram kits years ago at a show (Honda CBX and Kawasaki Z1-R Turbo), doing some research turned up a Monogram Yamaha XS-11 from the same series.
E-bay order from Rick and Kathy's Model Hut arrived quickly, in good condition and was like opening a time capsule from the early 1980's.
1982 copyright date on instruction sheet got me thinking back to 1982: I started high school (graduated 1986) and owning a real motorcycle was over 10 years in the future. Numerous career changes lay ahead, and now 42 years later this kit which has waited patiently all that time, still sealed up in the bags inside kit box, is ready to be built!

Robert, As a fellow truck model builder & horse owner, I understand the need to build an Iron Horse model! As some one already said, this build is a New Adventure in Model Building, for this topic. You will "Grab the handle bars, with both Hands"! 👍
Cool! I started High School in 85. And I didn't get my first motorcycle till I was almost 42! A Yamaha V-Star 1300T. I put over 65K miles on that bike in just over 5 years. I'm currently on my second bike, a 2018 Yamaha Star Eluder. I haven't been able to ride near as much in the last 3 years, so I only have about 53K on this one. A big advantage to living on the Gulf Coast though is that I can ride all year long. Looking forward to seeing how you get along with this kit. Especially knowing your Semi work. Peace and love.
