      Hello!
      If you are still a medical student, I would say it is still pretty easy to get a hands-on rotation in a US hospital. All you need to do is to go on the website of a specific hospital (including university hospitals) and email the secretary of the specific department that you want to rotate in. They usually provide that contact information on their websites. They will then get back to you informing you of whether it is possible or not and about what to do next.
      Good luck!

In these 4.5 yrs we have 1 yr pre-clinical, 1.5 yr para-clinical and 2 yrs clinical! So When Do u think i should do the USCE?? And have u taken up your Usmle step 2 CS yet?

    • @DoctorRaga
      @DoctorRaga  Před 7 lety +3

      Hello meera! Great question!
      Technically you can do your USCE at any time during medical school. However, i think the best time to do it is when you are done with ATLEAST one clinical year in medical school (where you have rotated in all or most major specialties). That will be most advantageous to you because you will have some basic clinical knowledge and skills when you are doing your US rotation. You can also do your USCE right before you start your internship (when you are still considered a "medical student").
      And yes i am done with my CS. Video about that is coming soon!
      Hope this helps!

    • @DoctorRaga
      @DoctorRaga  Před 7 lety +2

      Hello! Well, most hospitals that offer rotations to foreign medical students/graduates usually require your step 1 score! Also when doing USCE it will be better if you already have some clinical knowledge and skills so that you perform well in the rotation and get a good evaluation from your preceptor! So i would suggest you to get USCE after atleast completing your step 1 :)

    • @DoctorRaga
      @DoctorRaga  Před 7 lety

      Hello! I believe that USCE only counts when you have US experience as a doctor! I believe i have heard of someone who had years of US experience as a nurse but that was not counted for her! So I'm guessing that experience as a anaesthesiology technician may unfortunately not be considered as proper "USCE" to the programs! But do feel free to confirm this with another source as well! :)

    Hi Dr. Raga,
    My name is Hassaan Sadiq and I am a medical student from Pakistan. I have a question regarding USCE. If I do a clinical elective in my country (or any other country except for US) but my supervisor is a diplomat of American Board. How significant will his LOR be? And at the end of my clinical rotation how should I ask for a LOR. Should I ask them to write me one or type it and upload it on my USMLE application when the time comes?
    And thank you for these videos. These videos have helped me and my friends a lot. :)

    • @DoctorRaga
      @DoctorRaga  Před 7 lety +1

      Hello! Well that recommendation letter from your doctor will be helpful but will still not be as strong as an LOR from a doctor currently board certified and practising in the US! Once you do a rotation in the US, is you are planning to upload a waived LOR at the time on your application, then you will have to take the contact details of that doctor and contact them at the time of application and request them to upload it directly to your profile! But if you are planning to upload an unwired LOR, then at the time of your rotation you can ask them to print it out and sign it with the institutions stamp etc.

  • @usama9963
    @usama9963 Před 7 lety

    Minimum how many USCE and LORs should we have for cardiology field?

    • @DoctorRaga
      @DoctorRaga  Před 7 lety +1

      Well, when you apply for residency, you are only able to assign 4 LORs to each program! So i would say it would be great if you can get atleast 4 LORs.
      And any amount of USCE would be good! Different programs ask for different amounts of USCE and some programs are happy even if you have any USCE at all! At the end of the day, some USCE is better than no USCE. So get as much of US clinical experience as is possible for you!

    • @DoctorRaga
      @DoctorRaga  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi! To be honest, there is no real cut-off time that you are supposed to do USCE. But the general rule is, the more the better. Different programs have different requirements for USCE. Some require 3 months, some 6 months, some 1 year and some just was ANY amount of USCE. So you have to make a judgement based on this and based on your situation!

    Hey ..,thank u so much for the video! I still have one question for u. 😁 Is an IMG who is already graduated is still eligible to apply for hands on experience in US by paying required fee thro these organizations? What I heard /read on forums was , for an already graduated IMG they don provide hands on clinical experience and are eligible only for observerships! Does doing observership help in getting LoRs ? Plz help me make my concepts clear about this! Thanks again n wish u good luck for all your interviews!

    • @DoctorRaga
      @DoctorRaga  Před 7 lety +2

      Hello!
      If you do not go through these organisations, then yes, it is only possible for you (as a graduate) to get an observership and not a Hands-on rotation in the US. But if you go through an organisation, they are usually able to get you a hands-on rotation in a US hospital. Again, i only have experience with the organisation that i have mentioned in this video and i cannot really comment on others because i have no personal experience with them.
      You definitely can get LORs even when doing an observership, however, most programs in the US do not consider observerships as "USCE".
      Hope this was helpful!
      Thank you and good luck! :)
