    Man I love it! It felt awesome to not only get a direct reply, but to put them under the scope as requested!
    I’ve been subscribed since you were using subtitles and only had a few vids out, and you have my full attention when that notification comes on that you have a new video.
    I’ve gotten heavily into refining mostly from ewaste the past 7 years, and it wouldn’t have happened if you didn’t post these amazing, clear, safe, and professional videos I cherish.
    At about 42.2 oz of .999 gold, and 12.5kg of silver pulled from ewaste and some gold filled material.
    Your channel is a modern day Video-Hoke for me, including mistakes I get to learn from and see happen.

    This is a great example of why we should capture the rinse water, and collect the silver cement from the copper. Even though it looks clear, it still contains a little bit of silver in it, and it needs to be recovered. I received my CM Hoke book today, and I can't wait to get into it. As I mentioned in a previous comment, it doesn't matter if I put the procedures in the book into practice or not (though I sincerely plan to do so), the knowledge in the book is invaluable for its knowledge sake alone. We never know what the future holds and when this knowledge will be useful in a practical way. I have started to collect sterling silver, with a flatwear set given to me by my step-mom. She was apologetic because it was missing a few pieces, and when I took her that I was going to dissolve the flatwear in acid.........well she just shook her head! I thought for a few moments that she was going to have a fit, until I explained to her what the end goal was. She actually became interested, and I turned her on to your CZcams channel to share with my engineer father. I showed dad the video of you dissolving a horde of sterling, that included a bunch of sterling flatwear, he was impressed by the 999 fine silver crystals in your silver cell, and it finally made sense to them why I wanted to dissolve the flatwear in acid!

    About 1.5 kg in 10 days at 1.5 Amps. I think that’s as expected if each electron takes out one silver atom. Neat! Good video!

    • @bormisha
      @bormisha Před 3 lety +2

      Which is exactly what happens. The formula of silver nitrate is AgNO3, which means that one electron is required to reduce a silver atom. My calculation yields about 1450g +-100g for 10 days at 1.5A. If the cell did not operate in constant current mode, it would not be so easy to predict the yield.

    I have experiment requests involving silver I think would be interesting
    1. Dropping silver from silver nitrate solution using vitamin c - I’ve only see it one time but supposedly once you get rid of copper solution you’re left with 999 silver if not better -
    Copper stays in solution
    2. With silver chloride we know it is sensitive to light but from my understanding exposing to UV/sunlight releases the chlorine and you can just melt it once fully converted. If true that would save tons of time and resources needed for sugar/lye method
    Seems like interesting experiments to try

    I notice you appear to be making more cement silver than usual. I'm thinking we may have another cell coming soon. 😉
    Silver is an amazing metal. It has the highest electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, and reflectivity of any metal. This reflectivity is why it is showing up as white.
    Above all that science stuff, it's just dang beautiful.
    I don't know if anyone else mentioned giving us a close look at the silver crystal but I remember I did not long ago. Thank you, Sr.

    I keep thinking, looking at the footage, that the electrolyte has the *slightest* tint of blue to it, after this run, though I guess that could be a trick of the lighting. I guess the question becomes, when re-refining silver like this, how long does it take until the contaminants in the electrolyte become detectable (either visibly or via chemical testing)?
