In this fast-paced world, even though I'm in my 70's, it takes me a minute to slow down and enter your quiet, intuitive, calm world. Then I relax and and thoroughly enjoy being with you. Thank you for making these videos. They really inspire me to paint fromm heart!
🙏❤️🙏❤️
I used to shout "stop, stop, stop, it's good already!"
But now I always feel like it looks more finished with collage and/or swirls and squiggles.
LOL I guess it grew on you! 💖💖
It took a guts to dive into this experiment and post the video showing all the trials and tribulations. Serendipity came to mind as I watched you salvage the prints.
Hi Fulton, I learned so much from this video. Your patience and willingness to preserve is second to none. Watching you proceed into “damage control,” was an interesting and valuable art lesson. The results are organic, unique with images that captures the imagination. Thank you for all you share and teach us. Love them all.🙏🏻❤️❤️
💖💖💖💖
Hi Fulton, If you use your mat as a clean off sheet for your brayer you may land up with some nice acrylic skins for collage. Love your videos, thank you so much.
"Never do this, but here we are."
Thanks for bringing us along with you.
Train Wreck is beautiful. The collage elements!
💖💖🙏🏻🙏🏻
So glad to see a fail…sometimes I have several in a day. Loved that you kept going and found beauty. Thanks for sharing!

What a ride...I was on the edge of my seat! 🌠
reality tv for art!😮
Hi Fulton I like to support genuine painters and I feel you are one of them. So thanx for sharing with us as you sure have a lot of patience.
Such a great idea! I wondered if more successful by using " open acrylic" giving slower drying time so that image could transfer but not dry and paper stick to surface. Also quicker timing with placing and lifting paper. Also yondered about using masking tape to adhere the plastic to the the table, thus keeping the curfxce flat and .n place . I am definitely going to try using a cheap plastic surface at present rather than the outlay for gelli. Yes it will do different things xnd have different capacity but it will be fun learning some of these processes.! Thank-you for such great instructional videos and inspiration !!!
I have to say a good save. Great job! 👏🏽
💖💖🙏🏻🙏🏻
You are never afraid of experimenting new things. We learn so much from you.
Maybe letting less time before pulling in the first paper will avoid the tearing?
The collage was very helpful.
Don't think I will use the vinyl but I really appreciate your effort to show us different options.
I'm really impressed by your willingness to take a chance and try something different. You've given me the courage to go for it and explore new techniques
You can do it!
I loved this video. It is filled with clever problem solving using color, shape, movement, and collage. I found myself solving along with you, engaged at the edge of my seat; so fabulous for critical thinking skills. I think the results are quite nice. My favorites were the use of gold and the collage - black marks on disappearing tissue. Thank you-I know this wasn’t an easy one, but quite a success, to my mind.
Beautiful.....well done.
PVC is a thermoplast so U can try ironing the plastic sheet under a cool iron between paper sheets. That should loosen up the plastic and when it cools down it will set flat again
thanks for the tip Antoine. I was scared to see melted plastic on my only iron! Which by the way I use once a year!
I truly enjoyed the video and your experiment. The prints are awesome.
So interesting to see Fulton. You brought those prints back beautifully. I have recently seen people mono-printing on silicone baking sheets with great results!
💖💖
I like that you always look for the good parts even if it's a failure . Always have a positive attitude.
Oh my, well done Fulton that was very insightful. Phew!! great to see how things turned out. Thank you for sharing your experiments with lessons learnt, not mistakes.......Alioban ❤

Thank you for making these "mistakes." I can afford gel plates, but I often wonder what to recommend to people who either can't, or else don't yet want to commit to spending money on one. This was useful, not just because I now know not to recommend vinyl, but also as an example of not giving up, and turning "failed" prints into successful works of art. And, as always, I like your quiet, understated delivery, without the need to fill auditory space with a lot of chatter.

I particularly liked number 3, but all worked well. Worth the experiment.
That was an interesting experiment, all in all. I would've just walked away after the first sheet of paper and framed the vinyl. 😊
no not me, I don't give up easily
Maybe putting a soft foam type support under the plastic mat might make the mat more flexible? Some types of packing materials have that flexibility. However, the prints have a distinct style that’s kinda interesting in spite of it. 😊
I really liked that first one too but both are good.
Hi Fulton ! Thank you for your generous experiment whitch i followed with great interest and i must say a certain amusement. In general my activities comes down to this kind of mess. So seing how you have the courage to come out and do something with it is a great lesson and allways a pleasure .
Looks like some unique textures here, maybe this could be used in combo with the gel plate or other methods? A brave experiment, thanks for the demo! 🦁
The back of the mat at the end was kinda beautiful. Love your work
Another thought... Maybe this is useful for doing oil monotypes?
to do an oil monotype I would use a beefier 1/2 inch plexiglass plate to eliminate the annoying curling. Might as well do it right the first time.
😊hi my awesome friend I know it’s a bit late, but happy easter 😊and thank you for your videos 😊 I really have been here 😊
Thanks mate, you are the best! ♡👍
😊you are welcome no you are the best 😊
Love it! Damage control is a great learning experience.
I find my furniture on the street, too. :-D
whenever I see a plie of furniture on the sidewalks on trash day I just have to look!
i've monoprinted fabric on glass before & it worked well.
I hesitate to recommend plate glass in households with young children
I’ve saved glass from refrigerators that were being discarded. Very thick glass and sturdy!
@@DianeRabinowitzArtist great idea! I will only use glass if the edges are rounded, I have been badly cut in the past!
@@artwhisperer88 ouch!
Fulton, Temu has Gelli mats less expensive. As well as other art supplies.
I can imagine ink working on the vinyl pulled in stages, charged on the vinyl.
The plastic will “relax” with heat. Try a hair dryer to flatten the plastic. Thank you for sharing all your experiments with us! I learn a lot .
My guess would be- of you could apply heat with a heat gun or hair dryer ? This might help to lay the plastic lay flat.
I tried doing that, it has a stubborn shape memory! I will roll it in the opposite direction and let it sit for a week.
Good to know; it makes sense that acrylic bonds better to the plastic sheet than it does to the paper. The gel plate is made with mineral oil so i guess that facilitates the release?
I forgot that a really well engineered acrylic will stick to any surface aggressively! It doesn't do that on oily surfaces though.
I like the blueface
I wonder if you heated up the lament plastic sheet if you would get it to relax and flatten out?
The undisplayed piece was best. Did you look at your 16”x16” vinyl from the backside!? Frame that!!!! ❤
But then you cleaned it…. 😮
Why not have people make their own gelatin plates if they can’t afford commercial? Fairly cheap to make without drawbacks of other substitutes.
"Gelli plates" can be made with unflavored gelatin in a disposable aluminum cake pan (pick your size). I'm sure the ratio of how much gelatin/water needed for whichever size pan can be found on the internet. Refrigerate it overnight and the turn it out onto your work surface to use it. And it handles much the same as the commercial Gelli Plate. It stays quite firm and can be cleaned off and re-used several times before it begins to break down. Sooo cheap!
thanks for the tip Suzanne, but I would rather devote my kitchen time to baking goodies that I can eat, like banana bread and carrot cake! BTW I already have 4 gelli plates, so I have no incentive to make one.
Yeah - but OTHER artists wanting to try gelatine mono-printing may prefer to use the gelatine instead of opting for what seems to be the awkward and more pricey version you are advocating. I've used both the Gelli plate and the gelatine (no cooking involved BTW) with great results.@@artwhisperer88
How about turning the vinyl over and framing it?
now THAT"S what I call a cheap imitation! 😎
I‘m wondering if you blow-dry the gelatin plate as you peel it off the paper, that might prevent tearing.
Do you always think of the colour wheel when you put out your colours on the plate⁉️amazing surgery they came out fab and love what’s been left on the plate 🤪
I like to pit color opposites against each other, i.e. orange vs green, red vs blue, yellow vs violet, etc.
Yeah, letting acrylic paint start to dry between paper and vinyl literally IS gluing it.
Maybe less time on that silicone mat. Art imitates life. You just have to experiment to see if it works or not. At the end of the day, if it doesn't, you can fix it. If you can't, it's just paint and paper. A little bit less problematic. In life if you screw it, well, you will have to live with it. Lessons to be learned 😊
Hi Fulton, very interesting experiment and amazing results! I wonder what the result would look like when using a thinner paper...
it will be worse! I have an idea.... I should PRIME THE PAPER FIRST! Then the paint will stick to the paper!
If you apply vinyl sheet to a piece of wood and use a little baby oil on the vinyl will that help?
umm, not really. A gelli plate is still lord of the jungle!
I realize gelli plate is best lol
You might try to warm the plastic with a hair dryer to flatten it.
What if this was glued to a thin piece if wood so it would flat and a little thicker
that would present a problem with storage as I swap out sizes for filming. My work studio is tiny, a.k.a living room, and I don't have enough storage space.
Cool looking, like ultimate grunge.
