Gold Monster 1000 and Gold Bug 2 Metal Detectors -VS- 30 Year Old Whites Gold Master II.. What?

  • Hello All!
I've have been testing the Gold Monster 1000 and Gold Bug 2 VS my 30 year old Whites Gold Master II! (BTW.. The Whites GM2 DIY Battery Mod is really Terrific!) I am using some pay dirt that has about 4 or so grams of fairly small gold in it. Also used a .15 gram nugget.
These tests showed some very interesting results!
After seeing this result and other testing I've done, I am going to concentrate my efforts on using and gaining experience with the Gold Monster 1000.. my new go to detector! It is over all the best of the three by a large margin! imho.. The Gold Bug 2 will take a back seat to the 30 year old Whites GM2 as my backup for the Monster 1000!
The old Whites Gold Master II is still a Great Gold finding metal detector. It's true that it requires extra operational training time and is heavier also needs to be ground balanced more often and has no useable Iron discrimination.. IMO, even all this, it still is as you can see in this video.. will find small gold deeper than Either of the Newer detectors! The Monster 1000 is much closer.. still nope.
    Sometimes More is Less!
    Thanks for watching!
    Love to All!
    Peace PT

The monster 1000 is now my favorite and my goto detector. My Gold bug2 is still a good detector but now collecting more dust than gold.
The old Gold Master is also dusty but has a special place in my heart.
If you’re interested in the Gold Bug 2 mine is available for a good price. Looking on eBay they sell for around $500~$600
I’ll sell mine for $400 with free shipping.
It works great and has headphones and a coil protector also included.
I’ll also make sure it’s dusted off and has new batteries too!
If you have the money the monster 1000 is in my opinion the best VLF gold detector.

No pressure from me Bob.. I’m just offering it to you because of your comment and you are looking for a good detector.

Amen GS.. the Gold Monster 1000.. is overall better in almost every way!
The bug2.. absolutely not as good!
      IMHO 😂
The Old Gold Master II has an incredibly strong field with very little processing.
The bad thing about the 30 years old technology is no real effective processing at all and the ground ballance requires some fussing around.
If you are looking I’d definitely go with the Minelabs!

Zip-zip-zip. Enjoyed watching your detector test. Yep some time the old dogs still have quite a bit of bark left in them. The oldest detector I have is a Fisher 2 box detector and my first detector which was (and still is) the original Gold Bug by Garrett. Now you have me curious in maybe comparing my 4 detectors (the other two one is a Whites Surfmaster and a Nokta/Makro Kruzer). Love your videos PT and can't wait for the next one.

I bought a new Goldmaster V-Sat (The next Model after the II) in the mid 90’s, I still have it and it works just as good as it did back then. I have the 2 White’s elliptical coils for it and a small rectangular third party sniping coil .. all 3 coils have their own wands for quick changing with the electronics box. The electronics box easily detaches from the wand and I always wear my box on my tool belt .. so the wands are very light and don’t tire me out. These boxes are all analog with no LCD screens to squint at or burn out over time, and I don’t even need to look at the box to adjust GB, gain, V-Sat, etc. as the knobs are big and easy to feel. Recently I talked to a well known nugget shooter on the phone .. who also happens to be a Minelab dealer, and he was telling me how the Goldmonster 1000 would find tiny nuggets my Goldmaster could never find .. I didn’t say it to him .. but I call BS on that one, my Goldmaster has found tiny grain size flakes buried on top of highly mineralized serpentine bedrock in the old hydraulic pits that are almost not even worth keeping. If I were ever to buy another detector it would be a Minelab GPX5000 to add TO my Goldmaster. My White’s Goldmaster V-Sat has been my little buddy for over a quarter century now and I’d never trade it for one of the modern digital VLF machines.

I feel a bit sorry for Minelab Gold Monster($900+ new,) buyers/users. You really need to research your detectors. Do you know that my Whites MXT (10+ YR OLD VLF detector,) will hit 'every type and size of target'-at the same depths as the Gold Monster, with equal-size coils on each unit? Absolutely true. Folks should have bought the Minelab Equinox 800, instead. Or an MXT used- for $300.00.
P.S; If my MXT can signal on the smallest shotgun shell BB, a no. 8, or .09 of an inch at 2 inches depth? What does that tell you...

What's your opinion on the White's GMT? Do you think it would be worth it to get a 8x14 coil? I have one and am learning how to use it. By the way there is a GM II for sale on CL in southern AZ. Thanks for the video!

    • @ProspectorTripp
      @ProspectorTripp  Před 3 lety +2

Hello Billy, Not totally sure about the GMT.. never used one. However generally speaking.. White’s detectors have been well designed and typically are very good.
Briefly read the GMT manual.. it’s a 48khz machine with improved features from the GM2. Probably quite good!
I wouldn’t bother with the 8x14 coil until you feel completely well versed on the operation and overall function.
Experience is the best way to get the most out of any detector. It’s about a 20 year old design so, you may want to save the GMT large coil cash for a newer Minelabs Gold Monster 1000.. The more I use the monster more I like it! Definitely a terrific machine!
      Thanks for your comment Billy!

Put a 14 inch coil on the bug and it will give a signal at 24 inches. Coil size is everything. I owned the GM2 for 20 year. The GB2 and the monster are way better. A super sluice pan of pay dirt in the driveway is not a real test. Take them all to the gold field and all that GM2 will find is lead!

Hello PR4470, not totally understanding your comment. From what I understand, a larger coil obviously is larger and covers more ground, however it has less focused signal energy and less ground penetration. I only use the small coil.
