    Love the review! I have a 2004 and love it. One thing you should know, however, is that the 2004 (and only 2004 in this body style) came with a 4-valve 5.4 liter engine, not the 3-valve 5.4 later called the Triton. This was actually called the "Intech" and had 4 cams instead of 2 in the Triton, and also came stock with a forged crank shaft. In fact, the short block was the same one found int he Ford GT, Mustang GT500 (up through 2013), and a few other high performance Fords from the era. Also, this engine did not suffer from the spark plug issue the Triton engines did (phew!).

    Ford's understanding of luxury was to mildly restyle a Ford and throw some leather on the inside. If you look at Mercury after the 80s until its demise, you could option the Ford equivalent just about identically. Lincoln they tried a little harder on, but you can clearly see this is a Ford Expedition. GM was a little better at distinguishing their marques. It took them until the late-00s to finally realize that the Japanese and Europeans weren't going away and that they actually had to make their cars luxurious.

    So first off, I have to give you props for a guy your age doing a pretty in depth review. That's really refreshing to see. Now, I have a 2004 Lincoln Navigator Ultimate, which was my daily driver until 2015. Now we keep it in order to tow. In my opinion, the 2003-2006 was the best looking Navigator. It's bold, aggressive, and still looks relevant now in 2022. My only complaint was the lower side skirts...for me the vehicle matched lower side skirts on the 2005-06 was the epitome of the styling of this vehicle. We have maintained ours meticulously that when my electric parking brake went out, the Lincoln dealer was aggressively trying to buy it back and gave us a bran new 2016 loaner which in my opinion was a piece of crap with the twin turbo V6, not to mention it felt as though it was going to roll over when taking a turn at anything faster than 20mph. They even said they had to order the part and forced us to drive the 2016 for 2 weeks! Upon returning to pickup my truck...the service dept guy was smiling as I pulled up and made a point to speak loudly asking if we should just go find an office to talk about our trade in and upgrade. I responded by saying I thought this model was significantly lacking compared to my truck, and couldn't wait to get mine back. In response to your placement of the NAVIGATOR on the radio lid cover...it's actually placed properly. If it was centered, it would definitely throw off the entire look of the interior, and thats just from studying aseptically pleasing placement of things like text especially. I'm a graphic designer. I very much agree with your assessment of analog clocks in luxury vehicles...it does class it up. Now the placement of the window switches in the center, that's something you see in many European manufactures. I find it to be an asset because it stops the clutter of so many switches on the driver door. You mentioned how it seems like a beefed up version of the expedition...I mean I'm paraphariziing, but you also have to take in consideration that the idea of a full size luxury SUV was still fairly new in 2004, having just coming out in 1998, and 1999 for the Escalade. Also the 2004 model was probably way ahead of its time because the only cars at that time with crazy tech options were things like the BMW 7 series & Mercedes Benz S Class. But again, overall your review is spot on! Great job!

      @tylernielsen24 Před 2 lety +2

      I totally agree, I have a 2003 Navigator with 193,000 miles, and with its rate it'll be another 193,000 miles before I'll have to do any major maintenance, I love it so much, I wouldn't trade it for the world, I love the driving experience, and the features were way ahead of its time, and I think this guy reviewing it was too harsh on it and not really considering its age, and only had bad things to say based on minor opinions in the interior.

    • @crazykenbei
      @crazykenbei Před rokem +3

      The reason many got rid of them was they are very very very thirsty on gas and premium as well. As more efficient SUVs came out over the years as Teflon as the 04 navigator was there wasn't really any reason beside sentimental to keep one in the driveway. Hell I bet if you go looking for one now, wouldn't be hard to find one with decent mileage. Lol but in it's day it was one of the most cutting edge things out. That navigator system was big haha

  • @reallyrandomrides1296
    @reallyrandomrides1296 Před 2 lety +12

    Although it seems a bit dated, it's not too bad. To me it almost seems like it could pass for being five years newer. Not sure why the power window switches were in the center console. Probably cheaper since they only had to put in one set of switches, but this was supposed to be a luxury SUV with no compromises. I used to drive a 2004 F150, which this is based on, and it had power window switches for all four windows on the driver's door. Not sure why the Navigator was different. I wanted to like this, but I have to agree with you, I think a Cadillac Escalade from 2004 would have been a better choice.

    I wanted to ask you a completely unrelated question - what car should I get? I know you are a huge rotary fan and I was wondering if a rx-8 or a fc rx-7 would be a better option. I personally LOVE the looks of the fc and it tied for the best looking car for me, but the rx-8 is much more ugly, and I don't find it attractive at all. but you know the rx8 is a much newer car, and is generally more powerful, and has many modern features (I don't necessarily need them, I'm fine with only the basics). What do you think I should get for my first car? btw I do have a car to fall back on if either of them break down and enough money to spare for both of them.
