      just keep it authentic. if you want to change the kind of videos you want to upload, then do so. no point in forcing yourself to keep doing stuff you've grown past. people can tell. :D when it comes to video release schedules, i think people understand instinctively the cost/quality/speed thing, and that you can only have two of three. :D

    Okay, I don't know if you know about this, but Jun's sushi video was featured in the news over here in Ukraine. The whole thing! I wanted to show it to my mom, and then she said - oh right, I've seen this guy... I said there was no way, the video only came out (as in I couldn't have already shown it to her), and she said she's seen it on the news.
    I don't know, I hope you know about this and it was all legal. I was really happy for Jun though, because it's one of the most watched TV channels over here. And they translated it into Ukrainian too...

You talked about "shoganai" in one of your videos, and seriously that has helped me so much! When I start getting really upset or stressed out about something, I just stop and say "shoganai" over and over as kind of like a mantra. When I was nausious from anxiety it really helped me to have peppermint oil on hand. It also helped relax any stress cramping. Meat also helps keep my nerves steadier I've found. Lavenderoil on my pilow helps relax and sleep deeper.

    • @RachelandJunAdventures
      @RachelandJunAdventures  Před 7 lety +16

      I've heard people use peppermint for nausea before, although I've never liked the taste so I don't know if the smell would be pleasant! I'm willing to give anything a try, though. haha

    • @Iflie
      @Iflie Před 7 lety

      I used a drop of the pure oil on my tongue. I can't say the flavor is pleasant that way but I didn't mind it either. But if it makes you more nausious obviously that's a bad idea. I wonder if maybe another type of intense essential oils may have a similar effect. Anise seed for example and fennel also come in soothing tea.
      I have an issue with liquorice root and they often put that in relaxing tea. It would make me extra nausious if I had to try that. But when I was so sick food was hard the peppermint function was to clear the smell and taste right away. It sort of tricked my brain into responding differently to the food but I am so glad I'm not nausious all the time anymore. It's the worst thing ever, especially when low bloodsugar triggers more anxiety so you have to eat.
      Good luck with finding what works for you!

      @quiltingtelegraph Před 7 lety +3

      Rachel & Jun's Adventures! Try Peppermint oil putting a drop of it on your thumb and holding to the roof of your mouth until absorbed. It may help keep you from getting too nauseous from it. You can also rub on your temples with a tiny drop it can even be diluted with a carrier oil.

    Hey Rachel, since you are exploring Yoga benefits: There are some easy yoga exercises that actually better your eyesight if they are done on a regular basis. And they can be done anywhere without needing a Yoga matt or anything else. You'll find them immediately by typing in "Yoga for better eyesight"

      Well I'm not an expert, but in my own experience, even when you're short sighted or whatever, how well you're seeing can vary from day to day. Of course I am always short sighted...
      But I've found when I'm tired, stressed or ill, my vision gets worse eg. when I'm driving, signs are less visible, everything is more unsharp.
      However if I am at good health, not stressed and slept well, my glasses will actually be sufficient to see things clearly, which they aren't when I'm tired.
      Especially if you're reading a lot or spending a lot of time on the computer, it makes sense to do 'yoga for the eyes' because of the prolonged same-distance activity, the muscles contracting your pupil and working with your lens get tired and stiff. They are almost 'stuck' at a certain setting. Hence you can't see as clearly as before.

    Wow, happy Jun's channel is doing so well. When Philip DeFranco put the knife cleaning video in his Today In Awesome segment, I could've done a backflip for how proud I was of you guys :) And I'm not gonna lie...I had a bit of a superiority complex over having known you guys and that channel before the major influx ;) But only just a bit.
    Glad you're taking care of yourselves as well, especially with the weight and eyesight. Gotta get there myself with the weight as I watched this while eating McDonald's and heating up some pizzas later for lunch, lol. As for eyesight, I used to also not wear my glasses but my vision is atrocious. How the heck I could just forget to wear my glasses to school is now beyond me because at 28, I now can't go five minutes without them if I'm going to step outside my room, XD! My right eye is so bad, all I can see is the E on the vision test. There's little hope of that eye getting better as it's just the way I was born but I've thought about Lasik. But that's pricey and who can't afford health insurance that covers elective surgeries is moi. Shame that having my tubes tied is also in that category as I need a surefire way to ensure I don't have any kiddies, lol.
    Anywho, that probably got too personal at the end and I'm starting to ramble. Again, congratulations on your guy's channel growth!

    Rachel, can I ask how you got your sleep cycle in order? I've been struggling with mine since before I can remember. I can't wake up early, and I end up feeling physically tired alllllll day long.

    • @RachelandJunAdventures
      @RachelandJunAdventures  Před 7 lety +139

      FIrst, make sure I was tired enough to fall asleep quickly at night. That means waking up early, taking NO naps (you may need some coffee, but don't drink so much that it keeps you up through the night), and doing something physically demanding during the day (I go for a jog). At the worst it only takes a couple days of this until I'm so tired that I start falling asleep right away and waking up earlier.
      To increase my energy during the day I made sure I wasn't missing any vitamins/minerals (I was low on iron this time). Vitamin deficiencies are a super common cause of fatigue. A multivitamin might not be enough if you're missing something specific. I was already taking multivitamins, but I needed to switch to a dedicated iron supplement to get myself back on track. I also made sure I was eating three meals with actual healthy food that gives you energy--slow burning stuff like complex carbohydrates. I've been eating Jun's homemade cereal for breakfast (oats with nuts and seeds) along with a fruit. I've been trying to avoid processed foods and sugars. Those can give you short bursts of energy but will be useless for giving you energy all day. Probably most the foods you imagine as "healthy" fall under complex carbohydrates. Here's a list of examples and more information: www.livestrong.com/article/27398-list-complex-carbohydrates-foods/
      So check to see if your diet leans more toward these types of foods or more toward processed foods.
      And then, I made sure I was physically active every day. Yoga on days where I really had no energy, jogs on days I did. It sounds counterproductive but exercising makes you feel MORE energetic after you rest. It's also huge for improving mental health, which plays a big part in how energetic you feel.
      Finally, if you settle down during the day without something to do you might still find yourself getting tired again, so I recommend trying to keep yourself active all day, whether it's mentally or physically. Physically moving around is best, but staying focused on work, a game, a book, even yoga or meditation, should help keep you awake.

      Something that really helped for me was non prescription melatonin. Take it two hours before you want to be asleep and turn off the lights around 15-30 minutes before you get to the time when you want to be asleep. This can really help to set off a good sleeping schedule, but I don't recommend using it more than 1 or 2 days in a row, only when you truly need it. Hope this helps. Also, a good rule for caffeine intake, don't have any 8 hours before you want to sleep.

    • @JCXP123
      @JCXP123 Před 7 lety +7

      Rachel really summed everything up! I don't exercise much but a walk to just let your mind wander can help if you can't sleep bc you are stressed. Dealing with just a messy, irregular sleep schedule for whatever reason (ex. Jetlag) is definitely working or keeping your mind active throughout the day and not napping. When I traveled to Singapore (which is 12-13 hrs time difference depending on daylight saving), i wouldn't nap and I would control when I slept (even if i was tired, I wouldn't sleep if it was day) so I wasn't affected much even if i wasn't physically/mentally active.

    I'm so glad you figured out what was wrong that was causing your headaches. I have a desk job and developed a similar condition suddenly. It took me just ONE session of physical therapy to be diagnosed and instruct me on what exercises to do that fixed me right up from that day forward. I had chronic REALLY BAD headaches that I had to take medication for just to function so I was very happy.
    Now that I've stabilized it with physical therapy I just make sure to stretch my front/chest using corner of the room wall exercises and do some strength for my upper back like lifting weights and my head. Normally only takes 5 minutes a day for me now but keeps the headaches away completely as long as I stay consistent with it.
    I do yoga too but those targeted exercises REALLY help the headaches for me, the rest of yoga is just for overall well wellbeing.
    Anyways, I'm just really happy that you figured it out. I try to share that knowledge because I think LOT of people suffer from similar problems and don't know how to fix it, but it's so simple once you know!

    I HAVE SO MANY THINGS TO SAY;
    okay so first of all, very glad to know you're all better now, i have the same problem with weight and food, it sucks but like you i'm trying to get healthier, so yay !
    and theeen, from what you've said you should definitly read the Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb (Assassin's Apprentice, Royal Assassin and Assassin's Quest) it's dark fantasy with amazing characters, both badass and relatable, the magic is awesome and complex, there's the best wolf in the world and cursed dragons, love and friendship and tragedy, it's just all around awesome, and if you love GoT (as I do) i really think you'll love this. Oh and I used to work in a bookshop and manage the sci-fi & fantasy section and I always saw Sanderson's books but was always too afraid of the AMOUNT of stuff he wrote to give it a try, but now I will, you made is sound pretty interesting (also i understand what you said about the lord of the rings, i read the first one as a kid and had to skip a lot of description to not get bored and still kinda finish it, and i could never read the second one all the way to the end, the one thing i've really enjoyed from Tolkien is the Silmarillion, it has a more mystical feel to it, idk).
    Anyway, the rant stops there, can't wait for you next video, whenever that'll be :) and hi to jun and the kittiiies !

I'm no expert yet but I am a medical student hoping to specialize in eyes and i definitely agree that some of those chronic headaches you are experiencing are strain related. Getting your prescription updated is a good first step and you can benefit even more by giving your eyes a break from the computer screen every 30 minutes. Looking at something far away (~20feet) for about 30 seconds without your glasses will ease your eye muscles and release the tension building up and causing those headaches. It's a good habit and the best part is it is free! Hope that helps and keep up the good work!

    Random suggestion here - if you're looking for any decent fantasy series to read, I highly recommend Garth Nix's Old Kingdom series! It's probably my favourite series of books. Usually I'm very picky with writing style and don't get into books as easy (I'm one of the people who *tried* to read Harry Potter, but disliked the writing style, haha;;), but his writing style isn't tedious and is easy to comprehend. His world building is also amazing and I've had other people recommend his other series to me as well. Plus the series has strong female leads, and there is romance but it isn't necessarily central to the plot which is great. Just thought I'd say something because I think it's a worthy read!

    Thanks for posting an update! I've been recently wondering why it's been a while since your last video. It's good for you to take a break once in a while and get yourself back on track with your health and lifestyle habits. You've inspired me to take up yoga.
    I also know what you are talking about regarding food. I had a hard time with eating during my twenties due to a mystery illness. My doctor prescribed an anti-depressant to help with my digestive irritabilities and that helped very much.
    I'm also an introvert and empathize with you about struggling a bit with conversations. I learned that the best way to start and keep a conversation going is to ask questions, obviously not personal ones but about general interests and topics. Most people like to talk about themselves but I prefer to listen to others, so now it's easy for me to have conversations and it makes the other person feel good that someone is interested in knowing more about them.
    I like the earrings you're wearing in this video. They kept grabbing my attention. I don't think I've seen any wood earrings like those before. They're very pretty.
