“The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again.
But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked.
Don’t rejoice when your enemies fall;
don’t be happy when they stumble.
For the Lord will be displeased with you
and will turn his anger away from them.
Don’t fret because of evildoers;
don’t envy the wicked.”
Proverbs 24: 16-19 NLT
We definitely need more examples of doable layouts that take up very little space, don’t cost much money and don’t take years to build. Great job!
This project turned out awesome! Looks great! It should be a lot of fun to operate. Not powering the frogs is my biggest regret about my 1x6 HO switching layout and something that I will definitely do the next time I build an HO layout.
Filming it outside was inspired. Everything looks so much more realistic, especially with your lawn in the background and the natural shadows.
Thank you for this video! My own HO layout is built on a 1 x 6 shelf unit and is based on the Inglenook Sidings puzzle. I restarted model railroading about 3 years ago and as I'm in my 70's I needed to keep it small if I were to finish it. An operating session takes about one and a half hours running at slow speeds and leaving time for the ground crew to release and set hand brakes and align couplers. It can be seen under my name in public posts on a certain website that concerns books and faces. For me, Last Mile railroading is where it's at. Cheers from Wisconsin!
That looks great, Jimmy! I have always been a fan of the switching layout concept. I have a bunch of switching integrated into my next layout plan but it also incorporates an oval. Being portable and making it able to deploy virtually anywhere is a real huge plus for my needs when doing something like this.
I always think that small shunting layouts are more mentally stimulating and enjoyable than an oval.
Fantastic job, Jimmy! The model railroading magazines are *full* of layouts that occupy huge amounts of space, but sadly lacking in examples of layouts that require very little space. MRR2 is a fine example of the latter: it occupies less space than a bookshelf; in fact, it could easily rest on top of a bookshelf. It's important to note that MRR2 need not be the end: if you (or the builder of a similar layout) ever obtains more space, it's easy to build an extension which would connect at one end of the layout.
We spend a lot of time discussing how we can save money in our hobby, but very little time discussing how we can save space. This series of videos is a stunning exception.
Looks great Jimmy, I see you had a shock putting down the static grass, I use an old ball point pen with a brass rod in place of the ink tube...no more shock.
I have be making plans to make a layout like this for the last five years lol. Still haven't began but I have plans to make a logging scene with supper tight corners for the ultimate logging railroad lol
Your air conditioner plays some nice soothing music?! Cool!!!
Thank you very much for the inspiration. I live in a single room that is 16x14 feet. My allotted space for my layout is 2.5 feet by 13 feet. I was skeptical at first, but seeing your layout built on a 1 by 6 with that much detail and functionality really persuaded me to go and start building my bench work. Thank you so very much. I will subscribe and follow.
Some weathering to your rolling stock, your switcher, and the building. Outside photos would look absolutely amazing.
Fantastic! I really appreciate the fact that this is something that I can build.
Great track plan with clear exposition of how it was done. Thanks for sharing, regards Paul
I was just wondering when we would see this layout again. I’m so glad it’s finally done!
Congratulations for finishing mrr2
Поздравляю с окончанием железнодорожного макета #2
🎉
The natural light made it look great Jimmy. Great example of a small layout!!! Thanks for sharing.
The outdoor filming location may have hurt the audio, but the lighting made the layout look fantastic.
Good looking layout! I've a shelf switching layout also. Using Peco #5 Electro Frog turnouts. Saved me a little headache of having to power them.
Layout looks great. I really like switching puzzles.
Love the way this turned out! Thanks for sharing the steps along the way. ☕
You could say that static grass application was, electrifying.
In that livery, you could hit with a number of industries that existed in Savannah, GA in the 50s - Kaiser Chemical, Dixie Crystal Sugar, Union Camp Paper, Ga Ports Authority, and others. ACL was the major player in that area.
Just put finished the base board and track layout for my shelf last night, it's one foot shorter and 6 inches wide than yours and still debating if that will work out well, because it was harder to allow space for a locomotive and multiple cars to move onto a side track and back to the main line. Pick out almost the same switcher ( ACL #59 SW8 , Proto 2000, NRW DCC decoder) and several 40 foot boxcars. Thank you for the visual of a completed product, I do plan on doing more of a rural landscape however.
This looks great. I look forward to some switching videos. Thanks
Wow, that looks amazing! I am planning an HO layout myself, and seeing this is very inspirational! Thank you for sharing!
with rockets we call them "fin fillets". Here it keeps the track down. Still a technique - glue from the side, not the bottom, is a revelation
Great video and info ,now with a 5 ft switching layout in n scale with loads of sceanery and buildings with kato track
Attractive little layout. It will be fun to see what you develop as an operating schema.
Another fine video and layout Jimmy! You show us what one can do with a little bit of imagination and space.
The video was enhanced with the outdoor scenery and sunshine. Keep up the good work. Maybe we will see
you at Tweetsie Ghost Train this year!😁👻
That is some beautiful & inspirational work! Thanks
Nice switching layout Jimmy.
Thanks for posting.
you should add more modules to the point where you can set up and take down an entire loop
Great looking layout!
That's a great layout, maybe a one or two track removeable staging yard would add a whole lot more operating fun as trains can arrive and leave from the "rest of the world " .
Loving this little layout! I have as some long-term-dream, making something like this but to Proto87 standards, or near enough. But I'd first have to start with something like this, as I also haven't really dabbled in HO much. (other than a little Inglenook Sidings that was nothing more than track on a table, that I used to play with with my daughter when she was young). It would be cool if you could at least discuss Proto87 in a video in the future. It doesn't get a lot of press.
I like the ACL locomotives. So far I have 2 but not the switcher.
Awesome video the layout turned out geeat
I love the locomotives paint
Well done it looks great
Great layout, looking to build something like this for myself to replace my bigger layout I use to have but don't have the space. It also will be used to take to train shows. when will we see mmr2 again and have you done anymore work on it lately.cheers from ny chris
Looks great and fun!!!
Lol you shocking yourself made me laugh, I can't tell you how many times I've done it!
Hermosa locomotora
Would like to see a track plan.
Are there more videos on the building of this layout. Is there any where I can find the track plans.
Thanks
So did that static shock make you not want to use static grass anymore? LOL
What make of track did u use on mrrtwo? I must of missed it in ur videos. I’m learning a great deal from you….thanks. I’m planning on building the same layout
anyone can build...if you have a garage and power tools, lol, Either way, looks great!
Would your cars run better with metal wheel sets?
Hello my name is Will I have been watching your channel for some time now I have always been a model railroader but I started a new layout last year I would like to know what you think about it thanks Will.
Hi Jimmy, how does this Loctite glue work when removing the tracks? Is it easy to pull tracks in case a rework is needed?
Did you go with ACL on purpose or general availability? That's the line I want to focus my first layout on and am doing research on it.
What is the frame work size? Is there a drawing of the layout u sell? Thanks
ohh i spy a Metra in the back
Looks nice. Btw how many frog juicers did you install on MRR TWO?
I installed one on every turnout.
How do you do the decoupling on these kind of layouts? From my old n scale days I remember decoupling cars without taking them off is pretty annoying. How does this work for H0?
👍👍
I have a Q AND A can I run 2 DC locomotive on the same track behind one another as in paired togethers
How is an 18" x 6' benchtop considered a 1' x 6'?
how can I get a plan of that track layout i'm looking for somthing like this.
Where do we find the track plan?
Boggles my mind that you've never built an HO layout before!
Hello
Yes indeed as it can be an expensive hobby...
Cuantos dolares cuesta
It's my birthday 🎉
Nice work!
