Nauru country had large deposit of phosphorus which was the important element for making fertilizer during 1970's to 1980's until the scientist discovered artificial fertilizer
Nauru was much dependent on extraction of phosphorus but after many alternatives plus phosphorus got depleted due to rigorous mining

I have been to Nauru Island. The astonishing fact about this country is they just want to enjoy their life. They party and stay happy. They dont like to work or go to office. All the govt official posts are help by mostly held by Indians. The president stay at a house like any other normal citizen. Life is way different there. Its like Delhi 200 years ago on an island. It was once in a life time experience for me.

The first time, I got to know about the hospital , which functions like a nearby clinic . Good advice for those who , if in case , face that rip currents , to relax and swim diagonally, so that they don't rest in peace . I spent time on Nauru in 1978 when I worked for the government. I was delighted to stumble across your excellent video. Little has changed since my time there, although the neglect now so obvious. Corruption was rife in the 70s when the money was flowing and there were no poor Naruans as part of their culture was to share. They were a fun- loving and generous people, but with no real desire to work and in those day, no need to. And even then, tourism was not encouraged. I have many memories of my days spent there and a host of stories, but no desire to ever return.
