  • Patternmaking can seem like this really intimidating skill set. But you don’t need to be a patternmaker to hack a pattern. If you aren’t a fan of darts, princess seams add gentle shaping to a garment, so your fabric drapes along your curves. They make fitting easier and look great on bodices, jackets, and skirts. Turning darts on a bodice into princess seams is actually quite easy! Watch this step-by-step pattern hack.

    Hi, I would love a video on how to do a armhole Princess seam!

    Very cool! Who doesn't love a good princess seam. ♥️ I love my seamwork patterns but I always have to do a FBA or I look like a sack of potatoes. I wish I loved tinkering and cutting as much as I love sewing 🤪

    This is great! I’m wanting to make a Princess seam dress where the seams go all the way through the skirt. I’m having trouble finding a good tutorial for that… any tips?

      You'll apply the same principles covered for the bodice hack. In general, if the skirt has waist darts, you'll slash through those from hem to waist, closing the darts and transferring the fullness to the bottom hem. Hope that helps!

    Thank you for this clear explanation.
    Could you please add some information about the grainline? Should a line parallel to the pattern’s gram line be drawn on each side piece before cutting apart, or does this process mean the grainline rotates slightly?

    • @suzanneevans1771
      @suzanneevans1771 Před 2 lety

      Thank you autocorrect for ‘gram line’ instead of grainline

    • @SeamworkVideo
      @SeamworkVideo  Před 2 lety +1

      The grainlines should run parallel to each other! So yes, it would be a good idea to draw a second grainline before cutting.

    • @suzanneevans1771
      @suzanneevans1771 Před 2 lety +1

      Since the side piece is being bent, a parallel line would also be bent; is it more important to have the top or bottom of the side piece with the grainline matching the centre piece, please?

    • @SeamworkVideo
      @SeamworkVideo  Před 2 lety +1

      @@suzanneevans1771 Draw the grainline parallel to the original on the lower section. You can extend it up once all of the steps are complete.

      Very well understood. But please want a little favour. Could you please link the video of how you drafted the front bodice and back bodices so I continue from there. Thank you very much!

  • @perpetualtwumwaayeboah669

    What if you don’t have a back bodice that means you can’t do it 😢

    • @SeamworkVideo
      @SeamworkVideo  Před rokem

      You could do an armhole princess seam on the front bodice!
