- This is the fictional Savois S.21 from the film Porco Rosso, created by Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli. This was my first build of a Fine Molds model kit and I can safely say I'll be building more. It was a delight to build and assemble. A perfect beginner kit, or a project to get you out of a slump.

Always good to see a properly done Savoia S.21 from Porco Rosso!
Thank you very much, I'm glad it's properly done :)
@@rebelsatcloudnine Sorry for the 'formal' adverb! ;-) What I mean is: I like it! :-)
No worries, I knew what you meant, and your comment did not come off as formal, and I appreciate that you like it :)
Love the plane mate.
I wish I had a private beach, a deckchair in a lagoon too.
Same here :)
Same
I'd really love to see a model of this plane built out of wood like a real plane, like they build it in the movie
That would be awesome, im currently looking for a model like that
Love the addition of the woodgrain with the panel scriber
That was actually a lot of fun to do.
Damn... something that is so enticing watching another modeller work on putting the cockpit together and working with microneedled hand drilling techniqies... now THAT is a real turn on for me...
Great Great Work!! loved that propeller! ;)
Beautiful, now I need to watch the movie again.
I say that every month :)
Just watched the movie on Netflix awsome
Wooooh, it's Savoia of KURENAI no BUTA. You did such a model. It's great ! Thank you SO MUCH !!!
Thank you very much, I'm glad that you liked it. Soon I'll be starting work on Curtis' Racer, I'm pretty excited to begin that one, as I love the Porco Rosso film.
Debo conseguir esta maqueta para mi colección en 1/48!!! Gracias por compartir!!
great build, Love the one sided shading along the panel lines!
What wonderful but strange Aircraft, I like it!😳😎
Italians really knew how to design beautiful sea planes.
I have to get me one these.
Absolutely super build Jared.
It's a truly delightful little model. I've got another one to build, but I'd like to try a different red paint on that one.
This is so satisfying to watch.
I see you haven't lost it. As always great model making and an inspiration to others coming back into the hobby like myself
Thank you very much Wayne, I hope that you are finding the hobby enjoyable again :)
What a beatifully pleasing video, if you had as much fun building it as i had watching it, you must be a very happy chappie, beautiful job.
Thanks Mel, I certainly did. This was one of the most fun models I've built in a long while. I'm currently waiting on some paints to arrive so that I can work on Curtis' racer plane :)
Ohhhhh what a pleasure to watch and a beautiful kit. Well done !!!
Thank you very much, this was a really fun kit to build. I really should build the other one I have soon.
Excellent build!
Thanks for watching :)
Very nice!
A great little kit. I love mine! My only real regret is all that detail that gets hidden inside.
I agree Phil, I felt a bit sad leaving the forward guns off, but I'll save those parts for a future project. I still found it nice the details that Fine Molds put into the kit, it made it a bit more of a special model
Beautiful
Brilliant work m8! Loved the build
Thank you very much :D
Well I was about to buy one as my first model but now I see i should get the good tools and glue first. Looks great
That is nice about this kit is that you don't really have to paint it, but some good and proper tools always help make the build a lot easier and more fun :)
I am awe struck! Fantastic build.
Thank you very much Ed :)
this was so satisfying to watch
Precioso avión, gran trabajo.
Sabes cómo comprarlo??
Beautiful.
Really nice model! congrats!
Cool kit, fascinating build
Thanks Joe
Once again you have built a fine looking model there ! Its great to see how it turned out, loved every moment of the build ! Have to admit suprised at how much detail goes into that cockpit !!
Same here, I'm glad that I didn't add the Porco figure. As much as I wanted to, it's just nicer without him in it.
Very nice build log!
Very nice build :)
Great Job Jared, that was a pleasure to watch, that wooden prop just brings it all together
I'm just glad I was able to pull it off. I've got another one, if you'd like it?
My lord but that's beautiful
Thank you very much Ian :)
Nice!!
nice work
上手に出来てますね~ 作ってみようかな~
Thank you, I think that you should make one, it's a very fun little model :)
Great video as usual ;-) Please do some more videos with you talking thru what you are working on. Always enjoy listening to those :-)
Well I was planning on next week recording some dialogue and testing it out with this same video. I hope to have it uploaded next week, if I can get the proper time.
Oh, I like those little wooden pegs... :) Seems like there's a lot more detail to this kit than I first thought, I like the look of the cockpit.. very nicely painted up too! And a nice handcrafted propeller, it's getting better and better.. but one thing I'll never use again is Gorilla Superglue, I bought the gel, thinking it'd last me a lifetime, but it turned extremely thick, very quickly, so ended up in the bin! But that was just my personal experience. So, to sum it up... beautiful model of a rather (to me) unusual topic... very nicely done, with an informative video and I absolutely love the little piggy pilot as well... :)
Did I just gave you the first LIKE? Can't be! Anyway great vid!
Nice job
Gotta love a red aircraft👍 superb finish you have there. I recently finished a mig 19 in the colours of the red airforce display team (Very red👍)I had a nightmare with tamiya x22. It just wouldn’t dry properly. The finish was ace, but it wouldn’t completely harden. I turned to trusty humbrol clear cote. Thanks again for the quality content👍
Thank you very much. I agree I had a very fun time looking at this Red aircraft. It's been nice to deviate away from camouflage colors. I've had mixed luck with Tamiya gloss paints, and one thing I learned is to not have one massive coat that's quite thick, much as I would with their flat-based paints. It just seems like you mentioned they don't want to harden. I think thinner coats being allowed to dry properly might be more beneficial.
rebelsatcloudnine thanks for the reply. Maybe I need to practice some more👍 I’ve only had my airbrush for a couple of months.I may try some klear if I can get it in the UK. Thanks again 👍🍺
That sounds like a good plan. I've been using Tamiya for years and still I find that they have a few paints with "quirks" when it comes to airbrushing them. I use Klear/Future quite often, but like you said it's harder to find in the UK. A friend on mine in the UK used Humbrol Gloss, and really likes it. I think it's his go to gloss paint. Since I'm in Canada I don't have easy access to it, but it might be worth trying it out?
Thank you sir! I need to do some work on it, I will send it when it's finished. The plane type I will not reveal it will be a surprise.
I'm looking forward to that thanks Brian :)
Super
Cool plane man I don't know if the real sovia s.21 fly
See...now, I need one to go with my Asuka Akuyaku tank kit.
I agree completely :)
I really want to know. Could this thing actually fly if it was built with the right materials?
I think that it could in all honesty, I've seen a few people build it in RC and fly just fine. Miyazaki based it on a real aircraft, it was longer than the S.21, and it was a push plane, so I don't see why this one wouldn't fly :D
beautiful paint work! I have a question. Did you do any preshade/post shading around the panel lines of the plane?
Post shading with Tamiya Smoke, and I embarrassingly forgot to record it.
Absolutely impeccable and flawless work on a certainly original kit. But doen´t the kit provide pieces for the alternative, newer Folgore engine from the second part of the movie, plus the front windshield? And no figure on Fio, the teenage girl?...
I wonder whether Donald Curtiss´ Hotchckiss is available as a kit as well; it could make a certainly original duet-duel.
Hi Alan, the alternate engine as well as Fio come with the F model. This is the early version before it was shot down . And yes Curtis' racer plane is also a kit.
First time doing one of those whT should I need to do one
Love these racing floatplanes Reb... have you seen Miyazaki's film about the designer of the Zero? ... name escapes me
"The Wind Rises", yes I've seen it. Sadly I was very disappointed in the film. But I have the Fine Molds kits "Jiro's Bird plane" I'm tempted to build it after having worked on this one :D
@@rebelsatcloudnine it builds into a pretty interesting model. Someone at my club did one a couple of months ago.
this model i can't wait to buy and....but i sorry i can't buy now
Nicely done!!! It is interesting to see that you are using non-Tamiya glues and paints. Are you finding the Mr. Cement better than Tamiya Extra Thin?
I had recently bought them and I was more or less testing them out on this project. They are certainly stronger or hotter than the Tamiya glues. This had its advantages with this project as the styrene was red and that's a harder plastic to fuse together. I like the Mr. Hobby Cement a lot, but I'd say be cautious, because it's stronger it's more aggressive with the plastic, and you need to keep an eye on that. I do like how quickly the SP dries, and it's like magic on Airfix styrene, really bonds that together.
I’m putting this together right now and I was hoping to see how you put the decals on, I’m having a really hard time with that part, any tips? Are they stickers…or what?
Hi there Ashleigh, sorry about that, but since I decided to paint most of the sections that were decals I decided not to include them in the video. These are water slide decals, and they are simple enough to use but can be tricky. You cut around the decal and then submerge them into water. After a while, the decal will be able to slide off the backing paper. You can then slide the decals into place on the model. If the decal sticks in the wrong place, take a clean paint brush, dip it in water and brush it over the decal. This should help lift the decal again so you can move it into place.
Once you have it in place, take a cotton bud (Q-tip) and slowly and carefully roll over the decal removing the water underneath. This is a critical and delicate step. But after that, the decal should dry enough that you can handle the model.
If you have any more questions let me know and I'll try to respond as quickly as I can.
Hi Rebel, such a nice work, i'm going to do the same and use all your tips ! Have you also done the Curtiss R3C by Finemolds ?
thks again ;)
Thank you very much :) Funny that you asked that, I have the R3C-0 and I was actually just looking at paints for that build. I'm certain that I'm going to build it in a bit as a kit I was working on went south on me, and this looks like a perfect kit to work on.
I have tried to use that mr color but its so thick!!! and i was using a brush and i almost messed up my ship i was making 😢 do you just mix it with thinner for the airbrush?
When I'm hand painting with Lacquers I'll thin them down with with Mr. Color Levelling Thinner, or Tamiya Lacquer Thinner with Retarder (it's the bottle with the Orange Cap). Both of these have retarder added with slows down the drying time of the paints.
However, if your paint is thick like syrup straight out of the bottle, you might need to add Mr. Replenishing Agent, from Mr. Hobby. I have a video of this product on my channel, and it's designed to thin down the paint to normalcy again, as Lacquers have the tendency over time to thicken up.
PRONTO JOINHA, DIEGO FREITAS CAVEIRA CZcamsR BRASIL FORTALEZA-CE E NOVO AMIGO AQUI NO SEU CANAL
Also, noticed you used several drill bit. Are those really necessary?
Nope, they were a modification that I made of my own choosing
Any airbrush kit you can recommend for beginners? :)
That is a bit of a loaded question, because everyone will have a different answer. But for me I got started with an Iwata NEO CN. It's a very beginner friendly airbrush, and it still has a lot of function that you can do a lot of painting.
It has a 5 year warranty from Iwata, but after the 5 years that airbrush really started to fall apart, and at that time I was ready to move onto a more advanced airbrush. So I still think that it's a good beginner airbrush, and after a while you'll be more confident airbrushing and move onto something else.
beautifull, simply beautifull, wrong scale tho
?
お見事でした。 ただ あと1点、機銃口付近と、フルート部分に発射煙の表現があると、グッと正面が引き立つと思うんですが・・・
Thank you very much :) I understand, but personally I've never been a fan of that effect on my own models. But I think in future builds it's something to consider.
Would you have a list you can share on the paint/adhesives needed? Just got the kit, but not sure what else I'll be needing. Thanks!
Is there an alternative to using spray paint? Especially since I plan on doing this at home
hey there, would anyone happen to know the l/w/h of the finished model? i can find plenty of online sources for the box size.. 1/48 is sorta meaningless to me and its hard to guess based on the hands here because hands come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. the glue bottles and stuff help a little, but exact measures would be cool! thankssssssss
Where'd you get the model
Ik Amy a beginner, has anyone some tips for me?
did you know that porco rosso's plane (even if called S21) is a macchi M 33
There are quite a few similarities between the two aircraft, the S.21 is not an M.33. Miyazaki said that the design was based on several Italian aircraft of the 20's, which he's a big fan of. Also in the movie Porco explains that there was only one S.21 ever built because it was difficult to handle.
Do you accept fanmail, I would like send you a WW2 aircraft drawing, do you have a PO box?
Very nice!
this model i can't wait to buy and....but i sorry i can't buy now
