Fashion revolutionary Bethann Hardison looks back on her journey as a pioneering Black model, modeling agent, and activist, shining a light on an untold chapter in the fight for racial diversity. From walking runway shows alongside Iman to discovering supermodels like Tyson Beckford and mentoring icons like Naomi Campbell, Hardison has been at the epicenter of major representational shifts in fashion. Catalyzing change requires continuous championing, and as the next generation takes the reins, Hardison reflects on her personal journey and the cost of being a pioneer. In tandem with Frédéric Tcheng (Halston, Dior and I), Bethann Hardison and her co-director trace her impact on fashion from runway shows in New York and Paris in the ’70s to roundtables about lack of racial diversity in the early 2000s. Interviews with industry players speak to the state of fashion, while friends and family attest to Hardison’s rebellious and ambitious spirit. The film is an absorbing record of Hardison’s accomplishments and a rare contemplation on the life of a radical thinker.
Directed by: Bethann Hardison, Frédéric Tcheng

Alot of Mixed Women👩🏾👩🏽👩🏻 in this documentary, interesting.
The majority of models (that Bethann helped during the first 30 years of her career) were monracial Black. As the magazine and fashion modeling industry continued to be biased racist or biased, that expanded also to biracial models who had one Black parent. So all ethnic models (who had some noticeble African DNA ancestry...in skin tone or features) were lumped into one category and thus, they were helped also via Bethann's activism.
@@vecarter569 Were they Actually Black↪👩🏿👩🏿👩🏿.
Or we're they actually Mixed↪👩🏾👩🏾👩🏽.
Yeah she help Griffes↪👩🏾👩🏾👩🏾👍🏾, first.
Cause she's one her self.
And yes alot of the models in that video, are Mixed Race.
@@vecarter569 "That expanding to Biracials"?
No Biracials had Josephine Baker↪👩🏽.
Who also was a Multiracial Woman.
She open the gateway for Biracials, and MGMs.
They racist in biased, but you wanna be apart that shit.
Griffes👨🏾👩🏾👍🏾 love being attach to everybody
@@Unsweetened8618 I had to search the term "griffes". Well, in the US, we go more by the percentage of African DNA in the bloodline (or in simple terms, if one had 2 Black parents and 2 sets of Black grandparents, then they are considered essentially monoracial Black...because the African ancestry in that bloodline is overwhelmingly African...as in 75% or higher.
Other countries have different guidelines...but that is how it is in America...and especially in the height of when Bethann started her career...over 30 years ago. So in America, even the most mahagony or ebony rich skin tone can have European or Native American in the bloodline from some great great grandparent, but DNA wise...and race-wise, they are considered Black because they are over 75% African ancestry.
