- I show you a cheap disc detainer shutter lock that can be forced open easily. Also the shackle and the locking mechanism can be disassembled. This is a great opportunity to explain how disc detainer locks work in general with the tensioning discs and the sidebar. No picking however.

Nice video and explanation... I can’t stand those locks with the plastic core housing! The plastic housing can actually make picking tricky because tensioning a disc can deform the plastic such that the gate is no longer aligned. Light tension only on them.
...and thanks for the kind words. 👍
Thanks, will try with light tension - was using heavy tension only before and gave up quickly thinking it tensions at the bottom. The plastic core is terrible, I just managed to force out the bolt with pliers.
Potti314 Doesn’t surprise me... could probably do it with a torch also, which could be fun. 👍
Thought about the torch but it stinks a lot I believe - a pair of pliers is less invasive ;-)
very nice break down of this lock and explanation of how it works. 👍👍👍👍🧡
Thanks, appreciate you watching.
Very cool my friend these are fun to take apart👍😊👍😊😎✌
Cheers and yes, fun to take apart - will still take it a step further soon.
Thanks for the gutting Potti. It's always good to see what's inside, even when it's poorly made. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend.
Thanks buddy, I love all looks and it always interesting to mess around with them.
Excellent exploratory surgery on the disc lock.
Thank you for the sacrifice of your lock for science,
This was very interesting, great explanations, cheers matey
Thanks - was a pleasure for me to explorer for science for the fun for all us :-)
A thoroughly interesting breakdown and explanation of the lock thanks Potti.
Cheers and thanks for watching.
When I saw this lock, I thought: it looks pretty similar to the one I have on my bike, so I immediatly ran downstairs to the cellar to check it and yes it was the same type and I was able to pry it open...LOL. It was a cheap chain lock combination for 3 euros (bought in Holland), but it did seem pretty solid for the price. Needless to say Im going to look for another lock tomorrow. Thanks for the video, you probably saved my bike! :D
Oh wow, great to read that my video did make a real-world difference and helped making stuff locked up more securely. Thanks for sharing your story and happy cycling ;-)
Yes different but still made in China. Thanks for the pictures - it's actually looking pretty cool.
Thanks for doing a "brake down" of the lock. Always neat to see the guts.
Cheers - love to break open things ;-)
I find your exploration videos fascinating - well done and thank you for making this video! :D So easy to open it with a screwdriver - that was surprising!
Thanks buddy, it's really a shame that a screwdriver suffices to get them open.
Thank you for this video it is great to know how those locks work inside AWESOME job :)
Thanks, I'm also always curious looking inside.
Excellent breakdown of the that lock. The sidebar is an unexpected addition for a cheap lock. It's a shame that it isn't hardened steel. You, me and the whole Community need to get LPL & BB's new tool...I wish Sparrows or someone would pick up the idea and mass produce it. 👍
Yes, the tool would be awesome to own. Let's hope for the best.
Put the shackle end in a cordless drill and put it on full speed.
Then apply a file or saw blade to the shackle and see how long it will take to cut through 🤔🤔😂
Nice break down of an otherwise underwhelming lock.
Thanks for sharing 👍👍😎😎🍺😘😘
That's the first time I've heard anyone say this but sounds like a fast way to cut it open, nice one m8 thanks for the info.
That sound like great fun - will try it mate.
Thanks for the breakdown of the lock it was interesting to see 😁👍
Thanks for stopping by.
Excellent breakdown! Thank you! It helped me to disassemble a "Pvolinson" stamped (marketed as "Rolinson" and with the font used could at first glance pass as "Rolinson"), cheap ($4) "Hardened", "100mm", "Italy Technology", and "MADE IN PRC" shutter lock. A bit of prying with a screwdriver (from the Ikea FIXA home toolkit!) popped off the retaining cap. It's a very similar design and apparently the same materials too, only the stamped logos are different. Curiously, the keys supplied have a "SOLIE" trademark. The card-backing on the package has several instructional/cautionary graphics, most of which are a mystery to me. Seems that 97mm is close enough to 100mm for this manufacturer. :) I don't have a drill, but I bet the channel holding the ball-bearings is only minimally covered by the lock exterior.
As @LockPickingLawyer mentioned, the plastic IS easily deformed - just some moderate counterclockwise action with the key permanently deformed the plastic cam at the back of the plastic core on a metal stop pin, although not enough damage is done to prevent the lock from working.
Hmmm, IDK. I guess it's worth $4 as a puzzle to extract the ball-bearings. :)
It's always worth to dissect a lock and try to put it back together if possible. Thanks for stopping by and happy picking :-)
Great explanation my friend, I enjoy watching, thanks for showing ;o)))
Thanks Carlo - glad you liked it.
Interesting video m8 and a good explanation of how it works, well done.
Picking videos can get a bit boring (especially the long videos) so it's always good to see something a little different 👍🏻
Thanks mate, glad you liked it. Beside of picking I also find it interesting to do other unusual stuff with locks.
Great video my friend, it's not quite an Abloy. Lol.🤓✌
Thanks, haha not not an abloy and almost a real lock ;-)
Nice video My Friend
Thanks buddy.
I believe LPL or BB also pointed out the big flaw where the disc retainer can easily be pried off on these cheap Chinese disc detainer locks. Ya, I love the superior "plastic brass" core along with the Boron alloy shackle and heat treated, case hardened lock body, ya right! Be careful not to heat it with a bic lighter or you might melt that "solid super hardened disc core" (and then absolutely do not twist with screwdriver in the keyway, as you might "damage" the lock)
Haha - yes, this exploit is widely known but it was interesting for me to test this myself with holding the lock in the hand. And wait for the next video to see more fun with this lock and it's plastic core.
You can pick it just by inserting paper towels and compressing them inside. Then , any object that has shape like key will set discs in right position or it will spread plastic housing enough to simulate opening. I discovered that "method" after trying to make prank on coworker that turned into completely different thing after opening. 😂 Snaping housing from inside can also help. 😂😂😂😂
The paper towel trick reads interesting, like selfimpressioning?
@@Potti314 , exactly ! I was writing this from bed , so , a bit sleepy. 😂
I almost forgot about it , but , that was somewhat "ideal" attack against disc detainer locks. :) Might work on even high security ones , but NOT any of Abloy. They are quite different animal on their own. :)
Not a useless lock, it entertained potti314, for a while, lol, then it became a pepper weight ;)
Yes, indeed most locks serve the purpose of entertainment for me.
Great detailed video my friend. The main fatal flaw is they can be defeated with a screwdriver. I also hate the plastic cores they put in these. Not even good plastic. I think we discovered this lock is of low character. 😱🤣😂
Thanks buddy. You will soon see more of this black plastic souled lock ;-)
Thanks - nice explanation of how the lock works
Hardened steel shackle! - no!
Is it cheaper to just call it hardened rather than harden it properly
Right it's cheaper just to write lies. The least people will recognize it.
Can I know what is the size of the lock how many mm
How to open the padlock when it gets stucked? Bcause mine was stucked but the key goes in
Does the key turn?
My key got stuck on that lock hole..i cant turn or pull to get the key out...what shud i do?
Try knocking the lock gently with a hammer which rattling on the key.
@@Potti314 ill give a try and thanks for ur suggestion...
You could turn such a lock into a challenge lock by filing little false gates and wide false gaps in on the discs to give deep false sets. Use a hammer to put the ring back on.
Tried with a hammer but no success, the c - clip is too rigid. But I have other plans with this lock anyway. You will see ;-)
Awesome video mate. Those cheap locks are bad. If the packaging has big spelling errors it's not high quality 😂. 👍🤘🖖🍻
The packaging text is actually really funny, but the lock is quite sad with it's weak points.
@@Potti314 yeah locks like that should be destroyed and not sold as high security.
Potti great
:-)
Disk Döner 😅
Haha :-)
Don't need no stinking picking tools
The most versatile key... is a flathead screwdriver ;-)
12:25 "these nipples"
Haha, the ambiguity came into my mind at the same time when the word passed my lips.
Who stole from whom!?! 😂😂😂 goo.gl/jHVjTw
Haha, guess there is a common source in China for all of these.
