Thank you so much for your care and concern re the topic. My Dad died in '98 and I have kept his flag, unceremoniously, in a closet, since. Tomorrow, I Plan to follow your instructions and place my veteran Dad's flag in a case worthy of display. I appreciate your making the effort to show me how this is to be done properly!!!
When you fold the flag in half, do not make the edges flush as you would with a towel. You want the edge should cover half of the top row of stars on the blue side. keep the same border when you fold it in half the second time, as this overlap allows you to hide any red in the finished product. Once you have the correct borders, you fold triangles as you did in the video. Keep the triangles flush with the center fold as well as the same starcutting border you established earlier. The first few folds will look messy but the end product will be nice. If you follow those borders correctly and play with cutting your first two folds to get the proper length, you should be able to end your triangles with enough flag left to neatly fold and tuck it in. This will fit in the display case without you having to shove or wrinkle anything. Thanks for all you do!
Funeral Directors: Backwards! Doesn't matter for a display case but it does explain why my honor guard friends and I come across so many backwards flags for an unfold/refold. Please start with the stars in the left hand, better yet find a different video.
We have two flags at our house, my mom was presented my dad's flag when he died (he was in the Korean War) he died in 2003, and we have my dad's flag in that case. When my Uncle died this past year (he was a Marine in WW 2), I asked to have the flag presented to me because he was my Godfather and I have his flag in its case.
@@urost7593 By making the first fold only 3/4. If it is not centered start over with more or less than 3/4 fold until it is perfect. Not all 5x9 and a half flags are true to size. In fact they are all slightly different.
Bought cases for my uncle WWII and my fathers Korea burial flags. Dads was not folded properly wouldnt fit in the case. I hope this vid helps but I will fold and tuck that end. Other than that can I take it to DAV and have it folded properly?
If you want the flag to carry, you just tuck the last bit into the open end of the flap. I've done a few of these in my time. Check your own country as not all use this method for folding flags for funerals etc.
I just use this to fold any flag when I take it down it just works I changed my Cuban flag to a Byzantine flag so I just folded the Cuban one like this
Flag was folded incorrectly, as an Army Junior ROTC Cadet I know what I’m talking about. First off, you never, NEVER, shove a flag into the case like that. Second off, no red should be showing. Third off, the flag shouldn’t touch the ground, as it is considered disrespectful. Edit: If I got anything wrong, then don’t get triggered if you fold flags correctly. You can correct me if you want. Edit 2: Even if it’s for display, no red should be showing.
I know this post is two years old, but I have to answer it. The procedure for folding the Canadian flag is NOT the same. Please search and find the proper way.
Yes, the philippines also folds their flags like the usa would Only problem many people does not know how to fold a flag because there is not many philippines flag handed out to the public
I know your post is still a year old but I have to answer it. It depends on the situation. Flags that are used daily would have to be unfolded each morning, then folded at night(obviously). I think if its been folded as a memorial, I think it would be okay to unfold it if it was done wrong. But otherwise, just leave it be. I guess all of what I just said is common sense really.
I would re-fold it again if it was not performed correctly. It's no disrespect to unfold it, but it bothers us whom have folded the flag for honor guard - just my customs and courtesy ocd kicking in
This is NOT as easy at it looks. I've been trying to fold my outdoor weather resistant flag and for the life of me I cannot get it right. Its thicker than the nylon ones which are pretty easy to fold. But this thicker one is about impossible to tuck each fold. It ends up really wonky and tucking that thick material into the pocket at the end is ...well I'm trying not to use foul language since I'm talking about the flag. aggghhhhhh
This was completely irresponsible of a business that deals in memorial cases. Your very first fold was incorrect. From that point forward it went completely backwards, like watching a proper flag fold in a mirror. And who half-ass folds a flag to put in a case? No tuck? It’s disrespectful to the flag and to the person it’s for, or represents.
This is completely incorrect there should be 9 stars and in the end you make one triangle on the other end and fold it into the main triangle... good try though ladies
Mike Brown If you’re a traitor then I guess you could. This is America, we fly the flag of the United States, we don’t fly the flag of a failed rebellion that was against Freedom. 🇺🇸🇺🇸 Germans do not honor the flag of the Nazi Reich
@@joeyscerbo7776 xD ok, sorry, I know irony is not easily transmitted through written words, but I wanted to point out that it's obvious that this folding could be done with any kind of cloth or even paper. Asking wether that could be done with a confederate flag implies that the person wanting to fold the confederate flag wouldn't know this basic principle and thus is to be considered stupid. I know it's a far fetch, didn't want to annoy you. Greetings from Germany, and no, we absolutely don't honor the flag of the Nazi Reich, it's one of the most hated symbols nowadays.

I do not know who in the f*** made this video all I know is it the way that Fall lag is folded is absolutely wrong you never should read you never show the end no red no wider than the stars in the blue behind it so f*** you guys I hate what I just saw that is completely disrespectful of everybody who served under that flag. Our flag
Terrible folding here there should not be any red showing and 6 stars should be level and showing. Also the white end should be tucked in not left out like you all did.Sorry this is a total fail and would not pass military scratch.

I have the same foot long flag, it was from my grandfather, he was in the USAF, he was stationed in Alaska. R.I.P 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

I'm currently in Air Force Base Honor Guard and we have to refold every flag before each ceremony because half the time we get backwards folds.
Ok will do
Thank you... did it on my first try🙏

A correct fold should display a "1-3-5" star pattern that is completely centered. This is incorrect.
Ryan Bailey How to do it perfectly? Thank you.

Michael DeAmicis Thank you.
Thank you for this video I was in need of the good information.
That was horrible. It's not tucked properly and there was still red showing
Despite your repeated wisdom, the stars ended up all wonky.
Thats because this video is entirely incorrect.
Yes U Are Right Jin
I thought at the end she was supposed to tuck in that flap. Keep it neat.
Thank you, for our father💜
the red isnt supposed to be showing, only the stars
Yeah it’s just really hard the get it to where it’s not showing red
Bought cases for my uncle WWII and my fathers Korea burial flags. Dads was not folded properly wouldnt fit in the case. I hope this vid helps but I will fold and tuck that end. Other than that can I take it to DAV and have it folded properly?
How about a small POW flag , any way to fold so it shows best
If you want the flag to carry, you just tuck the last bit into the open end of the flap. I've done a few of these in my time. Check your own country as not all use this method for folding flags for funerals etc.
this works for the case, but was not folded correctly. odd they wouldn't tuck it, etc when they had it 90% correct.
Thank you.
Seriously?? That is a Sloppy Fold - and display!
My dad Vietnam veteran. He still strong. My mom needs straight and proper flag. Plz send professional soldier
We had so much trouble folding this
I just use this to fold any flag when I take it down it just works I changed my Cuban flag to a Byzantine flag so I just folded the Cuban one like this
What is the size of this corresponding case ?
Though it may not be official protocol, I personally don't lay it on a table like that in the same way I don't ever let it touch the ground.
So basically just get it in there then stuff the rest in the back 😂

Doing colors in ten minutes, this video saved me. Thank you🤪🙈 #gonavy
I'm in the Army Honor guard and they folded it incorrectly, but it looks fine in the case If you never open it
Drew Hicks do you have a link or video showing the proper folds? I know when folding certain folds are uneven intentionally.
Drew Hicks Being in the Army Honor Guard it shouldn't be good enough for it too just look good without opening the memorial case.
And it's supposed to look like a cocked hat Like the soldiers that fought with Washington Not Stuffed into A Case Not folded properly
A hatbox..since they wore tricorns
This is incorrect, as many others have stated. A bleeding flag should never be presented (red stripes protruding out from the blue).
Will this work for a Canadian flag
I know this post is two years old, but I have to answer it. The procedure for folding the Canadian flag is NOT the same. Please search and find the proper way.
it's the FLAG! don't just jam it in the case you tuck it inside
l love america bless america
Do other countries fold their flags too ?
Yes, the philippines also folds their flags like the usa would

At my grandpas funeral this is so fucking incorrect
I thought that once it's folded and presented to you it's not to be unfolded again.

You tuck the rest into the flag. not just leave it out open in the memorial case.
Exactly! That irks me that they left it out like that. Smh!
did the folding the wrong way
you had a little red showing
American flag is really so beautiful but so tough to draw
Drawing all its 50 stars is really so tough
Wait wait wait are you harry Potter
I have only folded the flag at funerals about 600 times, so.....
So please explain to them how to do it right!
That finished display is sloppy as shit, disgracefully done.

The gutter is on the wrong side and you fold left to right.....
Also, 1,3,5 star configeration is proper. That looked bad.
I have to fold a old flag with only 48 stars
Can you show me a picture in Memorial case with a 48-star flag?
1, 3, 5... fold it agajn.
I have not seen a more half-assed attempt than this. Totally crooked and then you dare talk about respect for the flag.

That's a very sloppy job!
nobody i know died in the military but good to know just in
case memorial day you know
People who sell the American flag should at least fold it correctly instead of shoving it into a case. This must be made in china
Great video, but it should also be mentioned that only four stars should be showing on a proper fold.
Your completely right
Not folded correctly.
That was worthless
You should go to woodprix website if you'd like to make it yourself m8s.
Im from the uk. But i fly the American flag. 💪 💪 💪 🇺🇸 🇺🇲

I did something like this a month ago with plans from Woodglut.
oh god ,i got a funeral in 2 days and i got to fold the flag
I did it with the Woodglut plans.
