But once it was done it should have stayed done. I think the editor probably saw how good it did and was trying to capitalize on it without understanding why it did good.

(And not the topic of this comment) But an evil character with batmans core principles can be done. Make him still cold but also manipulative, love his family and put them first even if it means sabotaging others. Make him unwilling to kill to acomplish his means. It could lead to a super interesting character.
I enjoy Batman Who Laughs, but it was in the back of my head that Owlman should still be the main Multiverse villainous foil to Batman as he's already established.

He doesn't usually kill his parents and Bruce, that's a New 52 thing. In fact in previous continuites Thomas Wayne Sr was the police commissioner in Gotham and knew his son was Owlman.
Or in one case, the robber killed his family including his baby brother...causing him to go a similar path..until he confronted his family's killer...that's when he 'blinked'.
I prefer the version of him where he doesn’t murder his family and instead just finds out Thomas and Martha were corrupt. Makes the better reflection of Batman imo

Now ofc DC is huge and there are a few universes where the Wayne’s are awful (telltale is the big one) and Batman still is Batman but generally in mainline continuity the Wayne’s are good people who care for their city and despite that are killed by it.
This honestly feeds into the point that opened the Dark multiverse plotline, though. That it was a set of realities *so* unreasonably horrible they *couldn't* exist. Not places where things went wrong, but places so bad they couldn't really happen to begin with. It was why they were all collapsing. And this makes *perfect* sense in that context.

i love how dc uses the concepts and ideas behind characters as actual parts of their lore. Like it's fun cause there whole concept of the multiverse is based around writers and imagination and the ideas humans create and i think that's a really clever way to explore it. I think it's best shown in that, in real life Superman is the progenitor of the entirety of the concept of superheroes, so everything superhero related in the DC Multiverse is uniquely tied to Main Universe Superman
A cool way to incorporate owl man into the mainstream DC universe would be to make him the last (and best!) talon of the court of owls who survived its destruction and went into business for himself...

Actually this version of owlman has a much better backstory. The killing of his parents happen in front of him just like batman but Bruce is also killed and the person who killed them is a corrupt police officer. He then lives a life similar to batman with a no kill rule but when he catches the man who killed his parents and brother he learns that his parents were killers who would often hire people to kill for them to get more powerful in Gotham. Upon learning this his whole motivation is destroyed and he becomes nihilistic, killing the police officer while stating "It doesn't matter"

i love how dc uses the concepts and ideas behind characters as actual parts of their lore. Like it's fun cause there whole concept of the multiverse is based around writers and imagination and the ideas humans create and i think that's a really clever way to explore it. I think it's best shown in that, in real life Superman is the progenitor of the entirety of the concept of superheroes, so everything superhero related in the DC Multiverse is uniquely tied to Main Universe Superman

Actually this version of owlman has a much better backstory. The killing of his parents happen in front of him just like batman but Bruce is also killed and the person who killed them is a corrupt police officer. He then lives a life similar to batman with a no kill rule but when he catches the man who killed his parents and brother he learns that his parents were killers who would often hire people to kill for them to get more powerful in Gotham. Upon learning this his whole motivation is destroyed and he becomes nihilistic, killing the police officer while stating "It doesn't matter"
