Shortly into it, they become trapped inside a cave by a landslide, and are forced down into the Earth. After narrowly escaping a conglomerate of Slime creatures living in the cave, they emerge put the bottom of the cave, and at the top of a strange, subterranean world. Incidents insue, and the four are forced to flee this world as well, and go further down, into another world. Down and down they go, world after world, gradually making their way to the core.
