    I still have this (as well as that aforementioned Atari Video Pinball standalone), and despite the basic layout, is still very fun to play. As for "unsavory places", I remember playing pinball in the early 70s at a little pizza joint in Groveport OH (where I grew up). Totally forget what table it was, though I remember it being a classic mid-60s-style woodrail.
    Man, I played that a lot, to the point that my mom would call down there (to a pizza joint) to tell them to send me home for dinner :).
    Sadly, the place was torn down many years ago, but those were the days, before there was such a thing as video arcades.

      That's a cool memory. I remember playing Space Invaders in a mom & pop pizza joint around 2002 and recently I played an original Ms. Pac-Man in another small pizza place.

      I always loved seeing the old machines at pizza joints, but nowadays, I guess the machines (especially older pins) are getting too expensive to maintain. It does my heart good to see the various "barcades" cropping up around here (here being Columbus OH) that cater to our old guy tastes :)

    As soon as you mentioned the pinball counting song I started singing it in my head....and it’s now haunting me!! ;). Loved that song!!

    I love this one. Even though it barely resembles pinball, I really enjoyed it once I discovered nudge. Until then, I spent most of the game helplessly watching the ball bounce around. But with nudge, it's my favorite 8-bit pinball I think. Good stuff.

      @thenosweargamer1449  Před 7 lety +1

      Thanks and that was me playing it pre-nudge: watch the ball bounce around and occasionally try to hit it. And I still had fun!

      My Atari was broken such that it read both controller ports as having the fire button pressed even when not plugged in. So nudge was the only way to go until I got it fixed. Then I realized using the flippers just made the ball go fast, wild and out of control.

  • @aakla
    @aakla Před 3 lety +2

    This game introduced me to farming. I would nudge the ball through the top left side thing over and over for hours and hours.

    Thanks a pantsload, now the counting song is stuck in my head. Could be worse, it could be Ladybug Picnic.

    Atari Blue Logbook Challenge (1982). Play game 1 with difficulty B.
    Pro (Pinball Hustler): 280,000
    Master (Pinball Pro): 340,000
    Wizard (Pinball Wizard): 400,000
    I think this is one of those games that was programmed in 1980 but released in 1981 when I got it in 5th grade. I played this a lot and mastered it when my Atari was broken such that it was locked in nudge mode, with me making Wizard shortly after I got the 1982 logbook (and school was out for summer). I rolled over the score multiple times on both B and A (6x since keeping score). This could have been more interesting with different screens and a proper height-to-width ratio, so I don't have much interest in playing it now. 1:06 Programming goof: the top bumper doesn't activate when hit from the bottom.
    Congratulations making Pro in this review/demo! It's currently ranked 16th out of 261 games reviewed.

    Used to have this for a TV Boy Ii, one of most played games, after I learnt how to persistently nudge, for enough time. A great, and much played game. :-)

    Man I really loved Video Pinball ! I used to use all the tricks you went into and rolled the score all the time ! The longest I ever played I rolled it twice in the same game. And I used to rack up the bumper multipliers to the maximum and then nudge the ball through the rollover slot so much that it took like a minute to count up at the end ! I definitely developed the pinball wizard touch and hardly ever tilted the game.

    I can just smell the smoke and booze of one of those unsavory places. My dad used to work in a bar when I was a little kid, and sometimes we'd visit him after closing time, when everyone had left and was cleaning up.

      In 5th grade I played video games down the street in a restaurant (Asteroids and Phoenix) and a couple times in a bar before the evening rush (Space Zap!). Before I was allowed to walk to school in 4th grade, I couldn't go further than I could hear Mom call me.
