Our Very First Caravan Trip!

- We took Bertha, the Nanavan, on our first caravan holiday. We spent five nights at the Centenary Caravan and Motorhome Site in Holmsley, New Forest. It's a very calm and friendly site.
It all went really well, thank goodness and the weather was kind to us!

I keep a master list so we don’t forget anything. Print it out for each trip, cross off items as you pack up, and drive away with no worries that you forgot the toothpicks, etc. lol!😂

Well done Helen. We've had caravans for 20 odd years. Sometimes we went only an hour away from home but you could be anywhere...caravanning makes you relax and spend good times with friends and family. Keep on moving. Look forward to the next one. More happy times ahead.❤❤❤

Hi Helen. Your caravan looks so cosy,clean and tidy and I’m sure it won’t be quite so tiring after this maiden trip! Well done to you on your towing skills as I’m sure it’s not easy reversing, parking up etc. I’m so pleased you’re finally getting some sunshine and the grandchildren are having fun at the beach. The more trips you go on ,the more relaxing it will be but it as you say, it is very much reliant on the weather and how it behaves! Dolly seemed happy and it’s always great when you can bring your pets with you on holiday. I hope you get to enjoy many more breaks away with Bertha in the future.💖🌸

It's lovely but it's brought back memories of how much work it all is! We only used our awning for longer breaks in the end.
It was fine honestly. When it's just the two of us we'll use the sun canopy xx

Another ‘well done’ from me Helen, not just for towing but also for transforming Bertha into a home from home. Loved seeing everything in its place and looking good. Billy and Hattie will always remember these days away with you and Rob, and how lovely that their cousins can join them now they are closer to you. Dear Dolly - couldn’t quite make out what she was thinking on this occasion, bewilderment ? 😂 x

Hi Helen, what a start for you with Road works outside your home….something you hadn’t planned. However congratulations for towing the caravan and all the manoeuvres involved….you really are incredible and delighted that you enjoyed your first trip away and weren’t you lucky with the sunshine and able to enjoy the beach with your family. Raining and cold here in Cumbria and forecast for July not looking great😢. Looking forward to seeing your Sea Salt haul. xx🏴

Our caravan is like a home from home. We have a barbecue that uses gas from the tap outside. Darren uses it to cook a lot including breakfast if we treat ourselves. We both love proper coffee so we treated ourselves to a machine so we can have a latte or cappuccino. Little things like that make all the difference. We just fully relax. We even have all the Sky Netflix channels on the telly. We often download movies etc before we go away so we can keep ourselves entertained if we fancy a night in with a bottle of wine. We also buy Booths or M & S food to take the hard work out of meal preparation. Great way to holiday if you have a dog. We are going to Scotland in September. Had a lovely holiday in Cornwall earlier. Strongly recommend. Wendy

Thanks Helen for sharing🥰 you look so relaxed. It is so nice to have a change of scenery when retired. Being away from the normal household chores & having lots of lovely places to visit. It’s nice to unwind & relax with a good book. I like you am a shopaholic and find it hard to go a few days without visiting a shop and yes any shop. My hubby puts up with it sitting outside with the dogs waiting my return and sometimes I get him something too but he never looks as excited as me🤣🤣 We were so lucky with the weather we had a week by the sea last week and every day was HOT.. looking forward to your next blog. Really enjoyed that! A little tip for when it's really hot in the day is to pull down the blinds where the sun is directly on the window. We find this helps in our motorhome. X

So happy for you both to enjoy being with your grandchildren. Our granddaughter is 19 and we have loved being with her as she has grown up. We have beef blessed with a grandson who is 3 and he is going to be living near us, we are so happy as travelling to see him was not ideal. We are one happy family who will be able to share fun weekends. I love your videos and enjoy watching you do so many fun things. Thank you for showing us lovely clothes shoes and jewellery, you always look lovely.

I bet you are proud of yourself for driving/towing/parking Bertha. Rob and Dolly looked so relaxed and you certainly picked the right time to go with the lovely weather we have had, beats it being 1st July and sitting with a blanket as we are really chilly. British Summers !!!!!!!

If you keep your curtains closed during the day it might be cooler? It’s lovely everything turned out easy and you enjoyed camping, you’ll be encouraged to go again.👍🏼🙋🏼♀️

So glad you had a good trip. I'm sure setup will be easier the more you do it. You put so much thought into how to contain everything. And what a great bonus to be able to have your grandkids there and to visit with your other son. Looks you are living your best life. Oh Helen, I have serious Nanavan envy! Great idea to travel only 45 minutes from home - just in case you've forgotten something vital. I wish I was brave enough to tow a caravan but I'll settle for watching your wonderful adventures. xxx

Aw Helen what a clever girl you are!!! Well done to you and Rob…I wouldn’t fancy towing/reversing etc. with a caravan attached. It all looked lovely - Bertha is just gorgeous. Hi Helen , caravan looks very nice , I’ve having caravan , & mobile home holidays & weekends for the last 50 years , & still love it . I did used to hate putting up the awnings, so now it’s much easier in a motor home . You will get to find it much easier next time .
But I also think you are very brave to tow the van . So well done you 👍👏😘

Wonderful to spend quality time with the grandchildren! We used to take ours to a static caravan every year when they were little, and sitting in a caravan in the rain is not my idea of fun either 😂😂😂❤ x

Phew….that must be a relief to get the first tow over……WELL DONE….HONESTLY x …..just watched the last part of your video and you were saying that you had a bad night’s sleep I know that you take magnesium and I’ve just read in the Prima magazine that if you take it at night, it helps you sleep. [Prima is on Readly app too]. I don’t know if it was the latest edition or the last one..but one of them.
Thank you. I started taking the Magnesium for sleep, but it doesn't seem to have made much difference, but it does seem to have 'cured' my IBS.... so I'm happy about that xx

Well done you👏👏👏 There is no way I could pull a caravan for sure. I got my first car at 17 as my dad owned a garage I’m 68 soon and I still drive because I have to not because a I like it . Especially these days with so much traffic on the road so I take my hat off to you. Bertha is looking great glad your first trip went so well. You’ll make some great memories for the grandkids. Xx

Oh Helen it took me back to when we had our caravan. I always used to say it was a working holiday by the time you pack to go , then set everything up when you get there!
But I really miss it and I’m sure you will get into a routine. The caravan is lovely and You’ll have many lovely trips and memories. ( Dolly will love it too) xx

Helen you have my total admiration towing the caravan !! Well done you 👏 I have never been brave enough. It does get much easier as the season goes on and you only have to travel a few miles to feel a world away from home. You also meet some lovely people on different sites. Really pleased you enjoyed your first trip away.
Btw those small fans from John Lewis are a godsend in the hotter weather aren't they!

You’re amazing doing the towing Helen- that’s a huge achievement. I can barely travel in the passenger seat when my husband’s towing and he’s a great driver 😂. First time out is stressful but you did it. Hope it’s easier next time❤

I love caravanning but I can’t tow so I have a micro camper now. When we used to go with my aunts and uncle, them with their caravan and us with a camper, we used to make a full roast! Oh and an absolutely full English breakfast. Glad you enjoyed it .

I applaud you for your adventure.. My best and oldest friend also our age (67) loves her caro.(as we call it) and had it for years . Taking it over to France every year leaving for 6/8weeks.. flying back and forth while other members of family use it also .. I would hate it but admire those that love the adventure.. Enjoy .. Love Mudeford Parents lived there (Mum now in Highcliffe) Can’t believe only 2 crabs 🦀🦀..

Your caravan looks great with the new curtains and cute bunting ! Love the rack that fits on the tap, going to get one of those for our 'van too ! Its a wonderful way to spend time and even if the weather is not so nice you can enjoy the peace with a good book and a cuppa or glass of wine 😉 We use ours all year round - its very cosy in the winter but keeping it clean with our two dogs more of a challenge in bad weather ! Hope you have lots more adventures !
