Because the point of the videos is to make a sandwich that represents the people and culture of the city .Not a sandwich that is commonly eaten in said cities which lots of comments seem to think is the point.
Burton on Trent has the largest (beer) canning facility in Europe, and pretty much all your foreign lagers are brewed in the UK on licence from here. The well water is amazing for beer brewing and many countries Burtonise their water to make beer. If you went to Burton to work in the breweries in the old days you would be "gone for a Burton" and probably wouldn't be missed at home because you'd be sending money back to feed the kids. The reason they make marmite is because it's a waste product from the brewing process.
As an American, I actually like marmite, as long as it's a thin vernier on a crispy-golden crumpet with butter and a generous helping of cottage cheese.
I love Marmite. I got tobkbow and taste it, when I spend time at the University of Canterbury, where a friend of Mine studied, and I spent there my Holidays. I would love to eat it, but you cannot get it in Germany, where I live.
