  • The Minox 35 Series of subcompact 35mm full-frame cameras had a HUGE following in their heyday to the point of having its own Historical Society! This tiny performer with it's GREAT Lens punches well above its weight class!

    The sound are very low in your video. I agree, Minox 35 MB and Minox 35 ML are great cameras, the lens are one the very best of compact analog cameras ever made. I used the Minox 35 ML (which is the big brother of the 35 MB) for candid point and shoot street photography, I had the camera in my shirt pocket and I could very fast grap it with one hand, press the front lid open and press the shutter, so I in under 2 seconds could catch a situation :) I had the aperture at 5.6 and the distance at abot 2.5 meters (8 to 9 feet) which worked perfect.
    The Minox 35 ML I had from new never failed, I guess it was with the latest shuuter as the shutter in the Minix MDC
    Later I got a Leica Minilux which have the best lens of all compact cameras ! The Minilux are not as fast to operate as the Minox and the Minilux are larger and more heavy.
    For "normal" photography I used a Hasselblad 2000FC.
    www.submin.com/35mm/collection/minox/cameras/mb.htm
    The Minox 35 MB was made from 1986 to 1988, so all of those could possible have faults. But the Minox 35 ML was made from 1985 to 1995 and from oktober 1992 there was a new shutter which are the same as in the Minox MDC, look for the serial numbers from 7171551 to 7176995 :)

      Great information! Thanks for posting. These Minox cameras are wonderful little devices with really good lenses. It’s good to know which ones are without the shutter issue.

    Your comment about having to chase the LEDs is spot on. While I don’t have a ME Super, I do have a Minolta X-370 and you have to do something similar. You have a blinking led at your set shutter speed and another set of constant LEDs at the suggested shutter. The object is to merge them so that you only have the one blinking LED and that’s your correct exposure. But often the shutter will be in between two values and while you have half step click stops on the aperture ring, shutter speed settings are only one step. So it can be annoying at times to get a dead center exposure and have all the extra LEDs go out. I too much prefer the match needle on my FTb.

    I really enjoy your film camera videos. I picked up a Minox GT with flash unit recently and all seems to be working after installing a battery adapter with four hearing aid cells. Looking forward to trying it out!

    Sometime in the late 1970s I bought two of the GL cameras, one for me and one for my wife. We took only a few rolls with each before both stopped working.

      Yep, I’ve had a total of 6 or 7 of these little monsters. I have only two now an MB and a GT. Only one of which is working properly. I figured out how to adjust the shutter but it never works for very long. I still enjoy using them a lot. Between the ease of use, tiny size and incredible lens it’s a great camera. Except for when it can’t take pictures....😕

    I have a B 35 Rollei because it has no battery and the meter is Selenium. I love it.
    My friend has a Minox and it had trouble with the battery and meter

    • @FilmPhotographyChannel
      @FilmPhotographyChannel  Před 3 lety

      I’ve had the Rollei 35 on my radar for quite a while but have to admit that I haven’t heard of the B35 before. I see it has a Zeiss lens so I’m sure the photos come out great from it. The Minox has a really good Leica designed lens but it is less than reliable because of the shutter mechanism problem. It’s a shame because it is an otherwise near-perfect camera. It’s very well made, easy to use and very functional.

    Hello, can you give us a tutorial on fixing the shutter not opening ? mine just got stuck today

    • @FilmPhotographyChannel
      @FilmPhotographyChannel  Před 2 lety

      I showed it on my video. It’s pretty easy to fix but sometimes “breaks” again. I also included a link in the description to an article that shows how to fix it.

    I got one of these cameras and I paid only £5.00 for it from a camera shop in London and it came with original minox flash and it works well

      I’ve heard of great deals like this in the past. They are awesome cameras with really sharp Leica designed lenses. I love snapping a photo and quickly folding it away as I move on to the next photo opportunity. Such a fun experience! It’s true that they have mechanical shutter issues. Check the video to see how to fix these issues or buy a later model that won’t have these issues.

    How does the body material compare to the Olympus XA series cameras?

    • @FilmPhotographyChannel
      @FilmPhotographyChannel  Před 3 lety +1

      They’re pretty comparable. Both are made from a high quality plastic. The Minox is a more matte finish over the XA’s shiny finish. As such the Minox shows almost no scratches. The XA shows very tiny scratches that you have to hold very close to see. Both are very well made.

    The Minolta TC-1 is smaller than the Minox cameras.

    There was a comment on how easy it is to repair the shutter on the MB. I have a MB and the shutter doesn't work. Where would I find that link to how to repair the shutter?

      Hi, I quickly show the repair in my video but here’s a link that I used to figure out the repair. Good luck, it’s a fiddle procedure. www.flickr.com/groups/minox35/discuss/72157612937954151/
