Just be aware that the plug on a 3kW device used for any length of time will get quite hot and most UK outlets are not really designed to take 3kW continuiously for any length of time.
On one forum an ex. GPO engineer reckoned that they would only rate UK sockets for 10A continuious, and that was only with approved plug/socket combinations (MK plugs and MK metal sockets seem to be the gold stamdard).
Personally I would fit 16A IEC60309 for anything high powered like a fan heater.
That’s absolutely amazing advice my friend, I have just ordered some 16 amp fuses for the plug for it, I’ve found now after. Few weeks using it I don’t need it on full power and have it on a few hours before I go into the workshop and then change to the Aircon unit on heating mode to maintain it for a good 5 hours or so and just alternate, but changing it to a 16 amp fuse is something I hadn’t thought about, so thank you for the advice 🤗
@@HooverLux Legal/complaint 16A BS1362 fuses do not exist for UK plugs and any that are for sale should never be used, even fused outlets are limited to 13A when there is no technical limitation as that's part often standards.
If the device never needs more than 13A would be to use a fused outlet, this could then run to a "commando" or even a German/French socket if more compactness was required.
The only way to get more than 13A is to either hard wire the appliance on to it's own seperatly fused circuit (as you would a cooker), do the same thing but fit an appropriate industrial socket. The blue "caravan/commando" connectors are the best option here, though in theory they have to be of the interlocked type for home use.
Also note that some of the plug heating comes from the fuse as when used at it's rated amperage it dissapating about 1W.
I will state that i am not an electrician but have just replaced all the sockets, switches and fused outlet's at what was my gran's house and have made fused 16/32A to 13A extensions for work and also do portable appliance testing for work.
