You are so right about the value of allowing kids to help with cooking! My daughter actually included her cooking/baking adventures she experienced as a child in her college applications. She included not only the practical knowledge she gained, ie how to cook for herself, measurements, conversions, etc, but also the generational and cultural importance that comes from sharing food experiences. I am an in-betweener…I have grown children and no grandchildren (yet!), so it just warms my heart to see you and your kids cooking and baking together! I know it can be much easier to just do it yourself, so kudos to you for making these experiences happen for your kids!

Some of my fondest memories are helping my grandma in the kitchen! In. The ‘60’s and ‘70’s people expressed their opinion on a boy cooking, but she didn’t care and just told my uncles “if you don’t want to eat what he made, starve!!!” No one starved!

I cannot STAND anything hot in summer, but my husband and kids LOVED the Minestrone soup and it was so easy to make, so I didnt mind it........I had your salads (that you have showed before) so everyone was happy. I am not jewish and not kosher. I do like seeing your recipes because I feel like I could still make them with non kosher foods. I have always believed the jewish can cook some great meals. Though I am sure its easier these days then in history to cook kosher as you have access to kosher groceries more easily then in the past. But you have the challenge, in the eyes of a non jewish that you specifically need kosher food. You cant just go to any grocery store you want. I respect that. Thanks for sharing what meals you make. Also as a side note... I LOVE that spice drawer. I obviously do not have a kosher kitchen but I love that idea of a spice drawer. I need one of those. There are things I have seen in kosher kitchens that I just think are great ideas for those of us who aren't even jewish. There is always something to learn from other religions and life styles.

I usually avoid hot soups during the summer except for this corn chowder my mom makes a great corn chowder soup but my favorite summer soup is gazpacho soup (especially watermelon topped off feta and mint and a little blasmic glaze delicious)
Great meals! I love the idea of the tomato paste in the freezer this way. Awesome! You might try that sushi "cake" using thinly sliced or peels of cucumber and thinly sliced avocado. The reason I say this, is I tried it both ways and the strips ended up being less messy while eating. The diced cucumber and avocado kind of fell off our sushi cake. Maybe that was just us, but we did prefer it in strips. Take care and bless you all!
Soup is wonderful in hot or cold weather. Our home is air-conditioned....I just love a hearty soup or vegetable soup with some nice garlic toast. A wonderful dinner.
