I gotta say man you're tutorials helped me become a better charge blade user and for that i say thank you.
Note: Even though it's advised not to use Yellow Charge, you can still use the Shield thrust to add additional seconds to Red Charge. Any remaining seconds in Yellow will get transferred to Red when changing states.

I've been waiting for this one! I knew bushido CB was one that I wanted to use but now a visual video explaining and showing all the moves makes my decision on a main weapon so much easier! Will wait to see the potential of DB though. But thanks Arrekz for all the hard work in your videos, the well in depth explanations, and great visual graphic work you do to make your videos interesting, and colorful are what keep me subscribed!
Thanks for the tutorial, I'm playing generations right now and trying to learn the charge blade and it's been difficult but with this I have a better understanding and hope to master it. Also I think Bushido is the best style as well. It's quite broken actually. Please keep up the amazing work. I watch all of your MH videos and it's been so amazing learning and understanding MH. Lastly, just so you know you were the one that got me back into MH so if no one else says it I appreciate everything your doing for us. 😁👌🏾👍🏾
I'm usually an Insect Glaive main (because I love mounting), but recently I had the idea to use Charge Blade with Aerial style as a substitute, and at the same time, wanted to try using the Healing Phial. This video was very helpful and has given me a lot to think about. Thanks!

Dicking around in the demo, perfect guard makes you potentially indestructible and allows for some pretty brutal counters.
I was skeptical about not being able to shift into charged shield with the shield jab combo like you can in the others, but you easily get over it considering how easy it is to survive in axe mode, now.

Excellent video. I was hoping you'd do charge blade next. I've been using bushido charge blade as my main and I'm loving it. The additional guard point with the A charge attack is ridiculously good. Bushido CB is also one of the few bushido styles that can still make use of Evasion+ skills (while in sword mode) if you're into using those.Here's to hoping that you do Bow or Gunlance next week!

HOLY CRAP. I didn't know this many things about the charge blade...I've had MHG with the CB for a year and a half and all I knew about was sword and shield, axe, and swinging it around and slamming it does a shock lol

I picked up Gen on the 3DS and could never get into it. Finally, after World and Rise I picked up Gen Ultimate for switch and I came right back here even 6 years later and got schooled and got solid advice. Thanks a million!

Bushido/Adept Charge Blade is soooo much fun. Still working on mastering it, but damn... evading attacks with that super dodge and following it up with a burst attack in axe mode feels awesome.

I'm a huge fan of charge blades, it was my main weapon in 4 ultimate and I can't wait to see it in xx switch version~ especially that finished with the giant sword of light XD
this and insect glaive have allways been my favourite even though they don't do loads of damage you can rack up loads of serious combos so it matches up with loads of damage

Ah this is very helpful, I have only done a red shield once and have been trying to figure it out
I could see striker CB being a a really viable support play style, with the over limit+healing bottle combo and that one healing fountain art, kinda makes me wanna go try that out when I get the game. (Also really looking forward to the GL tutorial)
It should be noted that if you already have red shield charge, the sword mode shortcut to charge your shield will prolong the red, not change it to yellow

Great video bro. I enjoy watching all your Monster Hunter Videos and charge blade was my introduction to Monster hunter in 4U. Are you using a mixed set? Or a full set of a armor from a monster? If so what monster is that if I can ask.
I heard everywhere that CB was murdered in this game, it has been nurfed but in a more balancing way (unlike Greninja) and I look forward to Striker Charge Blade
This video actually helped a lot. It's still weird for me to actually use axe mode without just simply shortcutting from SnS mode.

I know this video is old but is it normal I cant do the charge sword move where u hold A it just does a regular slash when I hold A down it doesnt charge...

Is there some special animation for the ultra (Red shield Full vial spender) move with increased maxed Vials? Or is the only big dump the special move (didn't see the one from 4U in this video?)?
Does it work like the charge blade in monster hunter world. If so ima have a great time when generations comes out on switch
arekkz, i couldnt charge my shield but i can do it during the training. do you know why? thankyou
You can also block attacks with the Overcharge Art because it gives you a free guard point but you will take damage if the attack can knock you back and it cancels the skill.
Just for those who do not know.
Did they get rid of the strengthened upslash after filling your phials that deal phial damage if you have a charged shield? That's sorta a bummer.
what are some of the recommended skills? I just found out guard+2 + redshield still get knock back from tigrex roar....do they not stack anymore?? T^T

I am so glad they've made the charge blade/ax more about using sword mode to charge the ax because that was how I used it in 4U. I won't be expecting much gameplay change except getting red charge coming from ax mode instead of sword and shield. All around I think I might still main with charge blade in end game, but after playing the entirety of 4U with CB I think I'll hold off on using it for a while.
+Bowen Konkel i would like to learn to use axe mode more, in 4u i spamed shield poke and ultra burst or whatever the charged shield one is called. and i never used the shortcut because i like the axe charge better
Quite frankly I never needed to use the shortcut into super or even ultra burst, which makes this even more perfect.
i keep trying out the buttons to charge shield but im lost, since i just started mh, how do i charge the shield?
what skill should i put on my cb? some people say its better use crit than artilery
(im not putting guard yet becuase i have confident in my adept guard)
Do you know if you are able to stack the over limit skill and is there a time limit to it? And for that matter does it work with the load up skill as well? It would probably be op if you could stack a lot of phials but quite cool.
I can't get a charge on my shield at all let alone a red charge. I've done what you have on the video i've looked up the weapons guide in the actual game and I still can't do it. help.

1) I notice that when you said that Striker axe mode had bonus attack damage, you said "whilst charged". Does this mean, with a red or yellow shield, with phials, or what?
2) Do you know if the Auto-Guard skill activates the Bushido/Adept Guard?
3) Do you know if an Ultra Burst with more time left on the shield does more damage than one with less time?

why is it that when I watch a review of monster hunter gen,
they say the only major things that have changed is the New styles and the new feature of playing the palico, but the one thing most of them say is "The weapons have not changed much"....what is that supposed to mean???
The charge blade was super versatile in mhfu which pretty much made it op thats why i loved charge blade guess i have to stick with great sword and hunting horn

I main bow and in mh4u I chose it because I liked it and it was quite unpopular but with the backdive and bushideo it seems a bit op. How many bows are online and what are the popular online weapons?
Guard pointing Diablos in 4U was very fun and easy practice. Now, relearning guard points is going to be tough since there's little feedback unless the attack has large knockback.
+Jub Orb Seeing as the guard point itself just allows you to plow through attacks and continue your morph animation, the feedback will be you not getting hurt at all :P
+Bryanneo1 Well, unless you get invincibility frames after the guard point, you're vulnerable to attacks with long animations or monsters with long bodies, greatly reducing their utility and you should just either evade if in a combo or block if not.
+Jub Orb That I'm not so sure but long animations or bodies doesn't equate to a muti hitting move.
Is there a way to tell if your shield is running out of charge like in 4u when it starts blinking yellow

If you keep an eye on the little red shield symbol, when it starts flashing, it is going to end soon.

Guard points are basically really fast ways of blocking, usually within an attack so you can counter instantly after the guard point!

Does phial damage apply to the shield bash of the charge blade?
The shild bash that is used when Red Shield is activated is added because of the explosion effect added.
If so, does it have damage similar to shild bash in 4G?

I love the changes they made to charge blade. sure it may seem nerfed but I'm alot more aggressive with my plays now
The nerfs just made it so that 1) people who could guard point didn't just guard point everything then go into a ultra\super Burst, and 2) the Overlimit hunter art didn't make the Ultra Burst insanely more OP
is the horrid guardpointless axe morph still around?
I use Adept for Elemental CBs for Max Elemental/Status with the Shield Thrust (Too good to pass on this) with Limit Breaker as a Hunter Art, and Striker for Impact CBs for Maximum Dunking Potential.
any good bosses to train those f-ing guard points? because i have enough of dying just because i have no idea how to block with this weapon (almost every boss just bounce me off even with red shield doesnt matter if bushido or guild style). btw if i want to my shield to stop bounce off should i get guard up or guard+2

Anyone know what’s going on with my charge blade in MHGU. I just got it for the switch and I’m following the moves in the tutorial but my hunter isn’t doing them like when I hold down A he’s doesn’t perform a charge slash or put the philes into his shield?
Check in what style you're on. Also this is a tutorial for MHX, not MHXX so maybe some things differ?
Arekkz, or anyone who can answer, I've been fiddling around with Bushido Charge Blade and I've noticed that whenever you try to just simply hold your guard up it has this brief delay where the hunter just swings his shield around like he's parrying something. Is that the window for the Bushido Guard Point, because it doesn't have the bright flash that other guard points usually give, or am I missing something here?
Bushido/adept guard is not a guard point and allows for different followups, and vice versa guard points don't really have anything to do with adept. Adept is all about shielding or rolling just before attacks, guard points are about timing your animations to monster attacks. And I think you are right with the shield animation being adept guard.
Of course as we saw the different styles do change about what attacks give you regular guard points.
I'm having a hard time to charge into yellow charge shield. It won't work for me. I can do the red charge shield though. Help pls D: I'm on adept style if that helps
