    Thank you very much for the overview! I am considering my first laser engraver/cutter purchase and this one is on the short list. With that said, based on the gradient tests at the 7 minute mark I am actually leaning towards the Sculpfun S10 or most likely the Ortur Laser Master 3. It seems as though engraving with these two lasers will produce much higher detailed images and for what I plan on cutting 10w will be more than enough. The Xtool lasers seem to be lacking when it comes transitions. I am not sure if this is a limit of the lasers inability to run at low power or if it's fixable with a firmware update...
    Cheers,
    Greg

      @JTMakesIt  Před rokem +1

      You need to take in the account that the test pattern with the 20W xTool has speed setting doubled compared to 10W test pattern. This is why everything looks lighter in color. And the S10 test pattern was made with an air assist which gives more contrast to engravings. Otherwise the quality of engraving is similar between these two. check my recent video where I tested the air assist kit also for the D1. But because the xTool is twice as powerful, you can engrave almost twice as fast. I haven't tested the Ortur laser master 3 yet.

    Is there a way to add the limit switches to the original xtool d1

    • @JTMakesIt
      @JTMakesIt  Před rokem +1

      I don't think so as the D1 Pro electronic board has a connector for limit switches and the D1 does not have it. But D1 can home without the limit switches thanks to the smart stepper motor drivers. Check my review of the D1 from few months back and you will see.

    Having run different laser systems. One thing you did not mention about the air assist. You need it to keep the smoke off the lens or you will wind up burning spots on the lens and will get blurry spot and its performance will decrease. Those optics can burn if the smoke gets on them. You will have to either get new ones or send it in to have them replaced. :/ You should have at least hooked up an air source to it till your assist comes in.

      The 10% engraving performance depends more on the driver circuit than anything else. It doesn't mean anything. You need to use this information to adapt the settings so you use its full capability when engraving.
