I very much agree. I went looking a couple yrs ago for a biography of de Chirico on youtube and all I could find were bio-films in Italian and Greek. I don't know either language. This was fantastic!!
And to the uploader, many thanks! Since "Poor de Chirico" by 10,000 Maniacs, I have been studying this enigma of a man through libraries, then museums in SF, Chicago, Paris. People like you are the reason the internet was invented. I thought I knew all there was to know of him; I learned so much from your presentation. Thanks for the hard work you must have had to do to get this made.

Very insightful interpretation, both of art history and de Chirico's unique place in it. The surrealists exemplify both the attractions and dangers of groupthink, something inherent in pseudo-Marxist doctrinaires. Determining who is "in" or "out" was what was arrogant, not Giorgio de Chirico.

In Pictor Optimus' canvases we see,
A world where realms of metaphysics be,
Giorgio de Chirico, master of the arts,
In shadows and in light, his genius imparts.
    With pataphysics, surreal visions flow,
In dreamscape landscapes, depths of thought they sow,
Each stroke a mystery, a story to explore,
In Chirico's works, the mind finds evermore.
His pictorial mastery, a vivid dream,
In enigmatic beauty, his visions gleam,
A timeless dance of light and shadow's grace,
In Chirico's art, a mystical embrace.
With arched arcades and towers standing tall,
He conjures worlds where mystery enthral,
In whispered secrets of the inner mind,
His canvases reveal what we may find.
So Pictor Optimus, in the realm of art,
With metaphysical touch, you play your part,
In every stroke, a riddle to engage,
Giorgio de Chirico's genius on the stage.

Thank you for this brilliantly researched and presented video about de Chirico' s life and works. Both his art and life are worthy of knowing, rediscovering, and admiring. It is a pity that so little is known about him as opposed to surrealist artists, despite his art being a major influence on them.

Since I've made this video years ago, I think of ideas I would have added to the narrative. One idea is that the work of the Surrealists was about automatism, dreams and purposely shocking the audience. I see de Chirico as a pictorial poet. De Chirico was a poetic painter and it shocked people and looked like dreams, but it's simply his poetry.
      Thanks for watching 🙂

@@DavidPeacockChannel Yes, I think the Surrealists have been a little bit overrated while we don't hear much about metaphysical art the kind of art de Chirico, and to some extent, his brother created. But perhaps you should make a second video. Ideally, I would love to see Chirico's story made into a feature film or a series 🙂

I made a conscious decision to exclude titles of paintings. If I include titles of paintings which are different from the narration, then the titles of paintings will compete with the narration. Also, there are over 500 paintings shown in this video and it would be distracting and too much information for anyone to absorb.

CZcams does not offer a way to edit audio of the narration. If I edit the original it will sound odd to insert one word. I've fixed mispronunciations in my other videos and it's difficult because it upsets the flow of the sentence. The file for this video is about 5GB, to edit, save, export and upload to CZcams takes about 3 hours.
I'm done with this one, I did my best. Professional documentaries have many professionals, including professional researchers, writers, editors, directors and narrators. They have professional training and earn a professional salary. I did this all on my own for no reimbursement. Judge it for what is is. I cannot compete with the professionals.

@@DavidPeacockChannel I don't know if in the Anglo-Saxon world it is common to do not pronounce the "de" and I see is usual in English to shorten long words etc, but in this case, because is a surname, it wouldn't be correct to just say "Chirico". In fact, it happens exactly the opposite in (current) Italian and we tend to pronounce the surnames with the "de" ( that are many...) without detaching the two parts, just saying "deChirico" as one word. I am not saying these things to negatively criticise your work, instead, I have appreciated immensely this video. Someone has already pointed out the narrator's murdering of French names, but if you listen, he seems to have a major problem with the English language as well. Over and over he mispronounces English words and I'm sure English is his first language. He is perhaps the worst reader I have heard narrating a serious thesis. I have managed one hour of this butchery, but can take no more...and I'm a huge fan of de Chirico.
