GM actually built about 600 of these things over a two-year period.
People wanted a Cadillac wagon, and it was ridiculously cheap and easy for the General to do.
I've seen precisely and exactly ONE of these in my life, done correctly.
Of course, it was a full-custom special-order rig, essentially marrying a Cadillac Series 60 Fleetwood sedan with the back-half of a Buick Electra 225 Station Wagon.
There was NO vinyl on it. It was so huge, so shiny and so formal, I was humbled in front of it. And it weas a 1971; for all intents and purposes the EXACT SAME RIG.

It's probable the metal work on this car was done by my father, Jim Stephenson, in Detroit. I know he was building Caddy Station wagons there in from mid `69 through `70, maybe `72. He worked at Barris Kustom before and after that and I went to work with him there in `73 and I recall meeting Heinz there. He was doing sunroofs on custom cars we built at George's shop. I had no idea he was the guy my father built the Caddy Station Wagons for though, but it has to be him.

I don't know if the added vinyl helps or hinders the resemblance between a funeral coach and a family hauler. The Cadillac division must have imagined their buyers being at minimum a two car family, one vehicle for formal occasions and one vehicle for family outings, but look at the Cullinan and why can't you have the same marque providing the same luxury for various purposes.
