- Martin ‘The Viper’ Foley could be facing a short jail term after pleading guilty to engaging in threatening behaviour as he attempted to recover a debt from a Wexford pensioner.
The 67 year old who is one of Ireland’s most notorious gangland criminals’ faces a maximum sentence of three months but what is more insightful to where his criminal career is at, is the amount of money he was due to be paid for his current day job.
A former enforcer for Martin ‘The General’ Cahill, a violent criminal suspected of armed robbery of fine art and jewels and a man who has survived numerous attempts on his life by the IRA and rival criminals, Foley has had a long and colourful career in the underworld.
So who is The Viper and what has made him one of the greatest survivors of gangland?

In one way though, Martin should be able to live in peace, that heist with those paintings was over half a century ago. Hah fifty one years ago. Not everybody had sympathy for that ol' guy either though, a lot of people were laughing. Back in the early seventies, people used to say it was getting like Chicago around there. The post office was held up and there were things happening. Hah

Martin's mother had a lot of sadness in her life though, as did her family, R.I.P. on all those gone on. Martin's father worked for the Lighthouse Co I believe, and it was the alcohol did him and them in, he couldn't keep his job. Like a lot of the Irish, alcohol took over. Sad though the worry for the mother. I don't think he himself Martin drank at all. I only know from reading posts. Martin hung out a lot down in Rathmines during the day back then. It was sad for the mother though the worry and she with a large family, God help her, she did the best she could, like all mothers.

That's a great concluding argument. If he stayed with an honest profession like tyre fitting, he'd be threat free, bullet mark free, and wouldn't need to do another day's work as he enjoys his twilight years.

I saw Martine Foley in a Pub in Ashburne one Night about 10 years ago ,,,he was coming out of the Toilets as I was going in ,,he said Hello as I said hello back ,,he was sitting with his back to the wall ,,he had a woman with,m on the Night,,,,, he's around a long time now,,,
