82 is a great score for new IP developed by a primarily mobile game studio. With some journalists and critics undoubtedly having an axe to grind against it. I was expecting a mid to highs 70s given the controversy.

The sexualization of the character is a glaring issue for IGN and some reviewers. Did Nier Automata and the Bayonetta games receive the same treatment? I haven't tried those yet.

It's likely because there's more to them. Nothing jiggles with Bayonetta.
Didn't play the demo myself, but watched a guy that I trust to give honest reactions play it, and we both agree that it's easily one of the best games to come out on the PS5 and should be on EVERYONE'S list.
The only reason the mainstream media reviews are so low is because Eve doesn't cater to their hacktivist sensitive-ness (which is flipping ironic given that those same dumbasses are absolutely DROOLING over Aphrodite, Hestia, and other characters in Hades 2).
How is 82 low?
Also apples and oranges. Aphrodite has more personality in her little finger than Eve.

Nobody was hyping SB like that. An 80+ Metascore on not only your debut AAA game, but your first console game as well, is a tremendous feat.
Dont know about that, I saw starfield on many media title even more than sony games and be desires for many ponies to play on ps5, im sure starfield is going to be on media way more than stellar blade

Having watched multiple SB reviews, this is the broad consensus:
+ Great combat (narrower parry/dodge windows than Sekiro)
+ Good boss battles
- Paper thin characterizations
- Repetitive fetch side quests
Aggregate Score: 8ish/10
Gonna keep my expectations tempered, Lies of P knocked it out of the park and if SB can come close it'll be good]

Well, if you just consider its actual purpose as a review aggregator, taking it “seriously” is fine when you’re interested in general reception of a title. But some people seem to view sites like it and RT as the singular opinions of an individual. Or they know it’s a pool of critical reception and treat it as the end-all-be-all (except when it disagrees with them of course). IMO, you find some critical voices you share some common ground with and put stock in their opinions rather than only ever glancing at a percentage that tells you nothing.
User reviews on metacritic can be often solid.
82 ain’t bad at all
I’m personally really interested in this game and I think this might just be a case where reviewers just got it a tad bit wrong. The game could definitely still be disappointing, but the first Bravely Default game was phenomenal and only got an 85 on Metacritic.
Some are intentionally lowering their scores to hurt the game.
Not really, not based on the reviews that I read here. The story is the main issue along with some of the RPG elements.

@@NuiYabuko when did I say the reviews were hurting the game? I’m simply just stating there might be a good chance the reviews should be higher is all. I also think it comes down to the gaming community looking at games as being disappointing if they’re anywhere below a 90. There were people saying Final Fantasy XVI would be a disappointment because it scored an 87, in what world is an 87 a disappointment? People slandered Diablo IV and Bravely Default II for getting lower than a 90 before even playing the game.
This game, much like Hogwarts Legacy last year, is a situation where legacy media reviews can be thrown out without even looking at them. Many in the industry are going to have an axe to grind with this game and it is going to be "review bombed" by the corporate press. Once again, stick to ACG, Skill Up, etc for your reviews and dont even consider IGN/EuroGamer/Kotaku/Polygon, etc to be legitimate, good faith players in the industry.
Hogwarts got an 84 average tho. Most people felt it was right around a 8/10 game or a bit better.

Grabbing it asap. Playing the demo sealed the deal for me. I just love post apocalyptic sci fi type stories, the monsters are cool, and the soundtrack is dope. It was fun, and I'm ready to continue the story.
looks like a masterpiece to me , looks like it's in my tier list already lol 1. xenoblade series (ofc) 2. nier drakengard series (surprise) 3. anything where zelda is a playable character (yes i'ma zelda simp) and now 4. Stellar Blade is in there with them for me
Baldurs Gate got 10s and I hated it. Stellar Blade is more my type of game.
A suitable rating for BD3 is 9 out of 10. We all know that reviewers are woke and don't deserve any kind of respect.
Stellar Blade may be a game far from perfect, mainly because it is the first major game from its developer, but so far it has proven to be a well above average game, you don't need to be an expert to realize that.
Unfortunately, even the most trustworthy gamers seem to be evaluating it as some kind of movie or something.
It's a bit bizarre.

@talimancern7724 I needed a cup of coffee while playing BG3 to wake me up. That game was so boring. You do nothing but walk around and read hundreds of lines of dialogue. And unless yours a D and F expert, most people won't understand the game's complex mechanics.
This is what I expected. We all know this is a top tier game from the demo. You got a couple of 6 and 7s talking about bs that has nothing to do with the actual game.

I'm getting this game tonight for my ps5 console Player.
I think the game looks interesting to play, I don't know why bring up sexualization in a video game of a digital character but that's online media for you. The gameplay mechanic looks good, not sure about story but will add it to my backlog to play later. Good video.
Review like this should come out when everyone got there hands on it first so there can be a conversation about it.

Actual good game may not get the credit that it deserves for the work an quality it has. So if a game that Good but the reviewer not into it an it get a 7 out of 10 alot of people wont check it out because of the (opinion) of one person. Why u think score are always all over the place!!

Usually 80-85 reviewed games for me are ones that I will enjoy a lot during the early and mid stages of the game but maybe late game I will feel uninterested in playing more and just rush to finish it and move on to the next game. That is basically how it always has been for me with action games.

The mainstream gaming journos are giving Stellar Blade the 7 scores. They are all following the same template and marching lockstep with each other to prevent gamers from creating a Hogwartz Legacy selling frenzy (22 million copies sold). I find it interesting that the creator of this video ommitted the "overly sexualized" comments and insinuations that were part of the 7 out of 10 reviews
This gane is good but the sidequest can be mind numbing.
I think I'll pick this up in 1-2 years. It is interesting.

This game will review a lot better with users. Media outlets have already expressed bias against the game, and even if they dont write about it, the attractive lead impacted their scoring.

A big part of the reviews getting lowered is the political nerritive around the game. That being said I was expecting something like an 8 or 9 from the start since this is the studios first console title and obviously they were not going to get everything 100% right on their first try.
Imagine this regardless of review score you buy the game and then give your own personal opinion? Imagine that? I already buy it because stellar blade is more common of Xenoblade Chronicles by same name but however music theme is Doom slayer make player hype and the quite difficult level of skill is Xenoblade but is actually sekiro shadows die twice skill technique to survive also art technique form Xenoblade Chronicles. It because it fusion of Xenoblade Chronicles + Doom slayer + sekiro shadows die twice = Stellar Blade
The average score thus far is well within the expectations, based on play experience.
For a developer that created a barebone mobile game, this is definitely an ambitious effort that is well worth the wait. The head of ShiftUp really took a lot of cues from Tomonobu Itagaki and his philosophy in gaming. I do think things will go up from there...as long as he does not over do it.

@@jingtroc23 They don't like the story and lack of character development. But you can look at the reviews yourself. Even Digital Foundry who hates the sexualization of the main character call the game 'ultra polished' and 'highly enjoyable'. Doesn't sound like shovelware to me.
@@DentyOne remove the sexy characters and this would not be on as many people's radars as it is, it definitely wouldn't have got no where near the same amount of attention, pre orders you could more than half, and as for the demo it would have been silent, but if you believe nothing would have been different if the characters where non sexualised characters than you believe that. Also the reviews overall are 3/5 or 60s/100 with the occasional higher score.
@@jingtroc23 You've moved the goal post. Your original argument, the one I reacted to, was that the game would be shovelware if it wasn't for the sexy character. I'm telling you that the gameplay is nearly universally being applauded, even by outlets critical of the sexualization. I never said the sexy character wasn't the reason people were interested in the game. She certainly is, but setting that aside, there's no shovelware here. When Digital Foundry calls it highly polished, it is by definition, NOT shovelware.
