  • (Edit 02/22) Bare in mind these openings are roughly a gold rank standard (my rank at the time) I plan on remaking these at some point with my new preferred openings as a platinum player.
    EDIT: The Soviets start with 4 tanks! My error
    This is just a showcase of the moves I use as the Soviets in Round 1. Hopefully they might prove useful to someone watching if they are struggling with what to do in the opening.
    If you have your own strategies you want to share please feel free to mention them in the comments below as I would love to hear about them.

    That feeling when you make a test run of your tactic in ukraine, and you roll all the hits in first round and kill everything there, so you cannot withdraw

      Wow, that happens so rarely ha. Don't know whether to call that lucky or unlucky

      I once hit all but one, and the Germans got no hits back. As I retreated, the German player looked very confused (It was his third game).

    I agree ... get some artillery. You've got to have some attack power to counterattack the Germans. Buy all infantry and you will get crushed. Also, use your fighters and save them! Retreat them if you must.

    I think it is essential to take out the German bomber in Ukraine so that Germany can't use it to take Egypt. Without the bomber, Germany almost certainly won't take Egypt. This, in turn, makes it possible for the UK to use the fighter in Egypt to help wipe out the Japanese fleet in the Indian Ocean. Do you agree?

    • @manix429
      @manix429  Před 4 lety +1

      This was one of the main points I wanted to add to my remake of the russian opening. That bomber needs to die, but instead of going for the Japanese fleet, I go for the German one near Egypt (as the majority of the time they have landed in trans-jordan)

      @@manix429 I also like going after the German fleet in the med, but I find that if you don't kill the Japanese fleet in the Indian Ocean, Japan starts out the game with a HUGE fleet, and this makes it difficult to stop them from taking India in Round 3 or 4. That's just my experience, anyway. I admit I haven't played near as many games as you have, and your ranking is way higher.

      @@jamesearly8518 Will take too long to explain all my ideas I think in the comments, I'll make sure to break all this down fully in my upcoming video. But I think just in terms of always trying to play the percentages in ranked, taking that early fight with Japan is so even, it cant be relied on as a standard strategy. If it works its great, but when it doesnt, Britain is down 2 fighters and a fair amount of ships. By not attacking and going for the med, yes Japan has an easier time, but Africa is secured and Germany is losing some IPC. Its then about defending India as well as possible (while harassing Japan with what's left of the US pacific fleet) and trying to overwhelm Germany.

      No problem. So 4 inf 3 art purchase still the same, and I continue purchasing artillery in future rounds unless it gets desperate and I just need pure numbers in Moscow.
      I attack west russia and ukraine, but I split my tanks more evenly. 2 go to west russia, 2 into ukraine. The idea being I want to commit to taking the Ukraine (destroying the fighter & bomber) but I wont lose 3 tanks in the process. whatever troops get taken in the counter attack it was worth it for that fighter and bomber.
      Beyond that, keep germany out of Caucasus until allied support arrives. And also with all this artillery, being prepared to launch a heavy attack if German over-extend.

    Really interesting video - 90% of the time I use my Russian fighters to attack the German fleet in the Baltic. I find that as Germany can only actually hit back with 1 Cruiser - as long as the dice land in your favour - you can take out a cruiser and a transport PLUS their sub which can’t hit you back - if they don’t submerge.
    It’s a risk because leaves your attack on Ukraine thinner on the ground but does give your ally Britain a bit of a break AND prevents Germany ferrying up infantry to Leningrad in the first turn - buying you some time

    • @manix429
      @manix429  Před 4 lety +1

      Never considered that before, guess its the riskier play as Russia but higher reward if all goes well. Worth thinking about on the opening for sure

    • @trudny13
      @trudny13 Před 4 lety

      I don't think that's worth it by pure value of losing 1 fighter after germans attacking karelia, as you can only return it to karelia. Unless you are throwing only fighter from karelia to 1v1 the cruiser and making a 50/50. Also I don't think you can sink a sub, as hits from air can't be applied to it, unless there is a friendly destroyer in combat aswell.

    • @etherealdragon123
      @etherealdragon123 Před 4 lety +1

      I've been doing this as well and have had some success. When it works it forces the German player to choose between sinking the transports off North America or killing the UK Battleship - they can no longer attempt to do both with any good chance of success. Either way it greatly helps Kill Germany First Strategies. One thing to keep in mind is that the West Russia fighter has to land in Karelia if it survives - so you're going to lose it either way if you send both fighters.

      @returnofpifco Před 4 lety

      Michael Susick I still do this move I find it really helpful in forcing Germany to commit the North Atlantic subs against the British fleet so leaving the USA fleet untouched - or alternatively if they go for USA fleet then you can build up the British one quickly. I now only send the one fighter from Karelia so that I can pull it back to caucus if i get lucky and it survives. It is a risky move but if it comes off it gives the allies a good start I think
