- This is the earliest video I have ever seen of The Avett Brothers performing. They are playing in front of The Wine Vault. It was shot by Lyndsey Gantert and a BIG thanks goes out to her for allowing me to put it up here for all to see.

I saw these guys in Concord, NC at George Washingtons Bookstore and Tavern many years ago...I knew they would make it!! Dont know what brought them to my mind tonight but Im glad it happened!!! Awesome cdm
thank you for posting this! it's such a great insight into their beginnings. seeing their CDs for sale behind them as you would see a busker in the street is a very real reminder that we all start somewhere. i'm so glad they've managed to follow their dreams. also - i was only a small child on the other side of the world when this was filmed. how weird to think...
so they would have been about 21 and 25 years old... wild. Hard working young men. I am now 24 and they have inspired me since the age of 16 when I found out about them
What a wonderful treat! Thank you for sharing. So funny to see Scott "buttoned down" and tethered to one spot. Tough venue for performers, with folks brushing past the end of one's guitar all night, but what a great time everyone had! I'd have been there every night if I'd known about the band back then. They've got such great energy - it's a joy to see them every time, but those of you who were there in the early years were especially lucky.
Wow!! They have come a looong way...I am speaking about the open guitar case for tips, as opposed to grammy nominated recording artists. I saw them last June in Berkeley. It THE BEST live show I have ever seen! Thank you so much for posting this.

I'm going to guess it's a Sigma by Martin. It's either an "18" or "28" body from Martin design, but unless it's really old, they don't normally put the sunburst color on the headstock on the Martins, but they have on the Sigmas. I had one when I was younger that seems to be identical to the one he's playing
