- Some small tweaks to the original movie of Drew Pringle "The Magic Peasant" driving one thousand Blackface sheep 6 miles over hills of the Ederline Estate on Loch Awe (near Oban on the West coast of Scotland). Drew makes use of his trusted bearded collies (Jeff and Tannie). Features Landrover and music from Deaf Shepherd and Blazin' Fiddles.
This is brilliant - how lovely to see dogs working in the traditional way they were bred for. Keep up the fantastic work!
Six miles over up-and-down rough country, and the dogs probably ran a hundred without a break! I used to have a small flock of sheep; but keeping track of a thousand of them moving around various hills and making sure that every dog is doing his duty---astonishing. Congratulations also in having such beautiful and appropriate music. Wonderful job.
Thank you for this video. It was so enjoyable. 😊
The smiling dogs.
The sounds, the noises from the animals. Funny, fun. 🙂
"Music by Deaf Shepherd"
Love it!
Thank you for posting this! A pleasure to watch!
This is just wonderful. What a film.
This is one of the coolest videos I've seen. Looks like absolute heaven on Earth.
This is the most Scottish video I have ever seen! :D
i never guessed it would be so tough to get the sheep moving. good work, dogs!
.sheep, shepherds and Scottish landscape and Scottish music all that great!
What beautiful country! :)
Simply amazing, and such beautiful landscape :)
Beautiful scenery!
Lovely film, as a beardie owner its great to see what they are capable of!
It’s like pure cuddleness
My border collie Kye loved the video. Ever since I put a working-dog training video on my TV (for me) she has been hooked on watching livestock videos. Great video though, I enjoyed it too
I think I might try the same...I've got to get my collie off horror and sci fi
What a splendid video
It's so weird to watch Beardies at work. You never see them work here in the US! They're just cute show dogs with flowy coats. Nice work!
Oh yes you do@!!! There are so many herding instinct trial test events in NOCA when I lived there it wasn't funny and especially it seemed that the owners who also showed their dogs in confirmation were more prone to want all those kinds of different levels of herding certificates added to their dogs' titles - much more impressive to those interested in purchasing their pups from them!
wonderful country
Excellent documentary, I've never seen so many sheep being moved like this before.
Very cool 👍
that was amazing, good job!
Fantastic!! Thanks so much for making this movie- amazing dogs, scenery, music, Farmer!
I love dogs! Sheep dogs are so clever
If those dogs ever unionize they will own the place .
a great video! it's lovely to see the working dogs in action, what a job the farmer has. great music and scenery too. Thanks
Amazing
I agree but It was sponsored by Land-rover. Drone shots would have been fun, suggest to Land-Rover next year!
A Beardie, who do his right job. Yeah. It's nice to see it.
would have preferred way more footage of the dogs working on the sheep instead of the landrover in the back. The car didn't do the work, the dogs and shepherds did.
sponsored by Landrover.....so....
Love Tanny "the smiler"
We bought our Beardie from a breeder who specializes in preserving their natural herding instinct. I tried to herd with her, but she proved to be afraid of sheep! Weird, but true. I was running around, sheep chasing me, but she just pressed up against the walls of the pen. Not that I own any sheep, but it was fun to try. :)
Love to see working dogs
love this . tank you .
Sheeptastic. That was awesome.
I see 5 Borders (3 black and 2 red, smooth to medium coats) and 1 Beardie (dark grey, silky coat).
love this sheep!!!!!!! :)
Estoy impresionada como un perro puede manejar un rebaño tan grande. Ciertamente no es trabajo solo de uno, son varios perros ovejeros, pero no deja de impresionarme su trabajo tan responsable y ellos tan comprometidos. Amo los border collie!
I havent seen a single bearded collie from start to end.
fantastic!
I lke the music, but would have preferred more natural sounds of the sheep , people and dogs.
Great
Regards from Argentina
How does the shepherd give orders to the dogs? Is it by voice? By whistle? or by the position of his staff?
wow. sheep are so random! lol smart dogs!
+Tricia Myles
Shut up! Sheep are not dumb! I have a pet sheep, and she is my best friend! As for my dogs, they suck. I love sheep! Please be nice!
I'm sorry if you misunderstood my comment. I'm impressed all around with all of the animals. However, I'm not so much impressed by you since you tell ME "shut up" while reminding ME to be nice? I think that's a bit backwards.
AwesomeSheep777 random and dumb are not the same.
Christusolus Oh Snap! you obviously wanted to tell me you have a best friend who's a sheep that you like to "play" with and I didn't even get the (albeit poorly crafted) joke until just now. Congratulations. Very funny.
Tricia Myles
Sorry about that. I was kind of in a bad mood. :D
If you know Psalm 23 you know it ends with "Surely goodness and mercy shall PURSUE me all the days of my life and I shall dwell in the household of the Lord forever." I have always pictured mercy and goodness as sheep herding dogs. Keeping me on the paths of righteousness where the Lord leads.
when i was a boy i remember the ederline lambs being sold in Oban at the old corsons mart .i think it was a brigadier called warde aldam that had the place then
Brilliant
awesome!!!
Any1 know I'd beardies are related to the Chesterfield? And if so how closely?
a beautiful life
Thanks!
Amazing Video...but why did you choose Beardies over the more usual BC?
Hallo Mr.Pringle.I`m Heike de Vries form Germanny. My father was in the war in Wooler Northumblerland .His name was Tamme Jürgens .He was by a farmer family Pringle.Do you now something about him?
I like it 🤗
Was 2010 like 60 years ago?
Too many shots of scenery and not enough of working dogs. Interesting though.
What instrument is that...not bagpipes
adore scotland scots and scotch!
beautifull
cute sheep. :3
Blackfaces sheep and border collies dogs are awesome !
shakey camera work. woah I'm dizzy. But fun to watch. thanks
One Thousand sheep? That is alot! How many acres this sheep farm?
At 2:16 there's someone on the top of the hill to the left. Another shepherd, perhaps?
Can't figure out why the camera keeps panning back to the truck. lol
D
Shearing??
Actually, @ screamerdemon, perhaps, the Man is working twice as hard as his dogs. After all, the Man knows where he is going and is leading, ultimately!
Next time, if possible, could you please hold the camera still?
Interesting to watch.
lol
🆒️
Can I come over and volunteer for a few weeks?
Like lambs to the slaughter. ;)
Shut the fuck up
Not sur if those sheep are very happy.
They look more like border collies
Je ne savais pas qu'on avait réalisé un film sur les électeurs de Macron !! Vrai qu'ils sont nombreux !!
🤣🤣🙂
camera is moving to much from right to left
spooky this dog reads my mi... scary...
I have a border collie, in the pic is him
2018 Greece 💖🌐
BEARDED???
Loved it except for the frantic music.
I almost always turn the sound off when watching CZcams videos.
Love the music and its great accompanment to the work
hi, would love to be part of the next trip and walk through the mountains with you. see my Version of A Thousand Sheep and let me know what you think!
Wow i prefer rottys but i got to admits that's awesome
why dont they just let them roam around? what's the purpose of herding?
Keep track of the herd, rotate fields for grazing, keep them from main roads, bring them to the barn for shearing, bring them in for feeding, and probably more. Leave them roaming and you're going to end up with over-grazed fields and herds of sheep with overgrown wool (which isn't good for them).
@@someoneidk308 to make money, thats what its all about 🤣🤣
@@angusmcgowan5985 Well... I guess? Wool has its uses and I doubt itll go away anytime soon. I will say that there isn't too much profit in shepherding. Any profits generally go back into the farm to provide better care for the sheep.
@@someoneidk308 are you a farmer? Because what it'll be is he'll be gathering in his sheep to sell the lambs to store to get alot of money for them and pull out his cull ewes with bad bags and teeth
He could also be shearing them l, but there is no profit for that as it will cost the same to clip the wool as the wool sells for.
@@angusmcgowan5985 No, I'm not a farmer. But I do regularly talk with those who use their dogs to herd animals- specifically sheep- and have some role on the farm because of that. None of them own the farm, but they work on a farm is what I'm trying to say.
And I mean, you're right. I'm not gonna argue with what you said. Honestly I forgot about lamb meat. But isn't there some profit with wool if you sheer then yourself? Obviously not on this scale because. Yikes that's a lot of sheep and obviously they'd need to hire help. But like less than 60 maybe?
i dont know what happend
Id watch it thru again with yours contacts in if I were you....sorry didnt intend to sound so mean:)
سبحان الله العظيم
Excellent and Beautiful and amazing
BORDER Collies.... not bearded collies.
You could NEVER move 1K sheep without Borders. They're the only who ones have the smarts, drive, and endurance.
17000 acres
Bearded Collies ? ..... they looked a lot like Border Collies ;-)
Just wish you had left the music off-- very distracting and difficult to hear the action!
HaHa
It's a good job there was border collies there to do the work for the bearded collie
Where are the Bearded Collies, though? I couldn't find even one.
+junbh2 The blue and whites are beardies. The black and red are borders.
+junbh2 They are NOT show beardies... workers. Look for the blue/whites.
+Michael Fortunato OK. I saw them at the beginning of course but harder to pick them out in the bits with the sheep. I guess I mistook them for long haired border collies.
+Michael Fortunato They do look quite different from the ones I've met in the city! It makes sense their hair would be much shorter, though.
You need a horse! Much easier on horseback😁
Two borders, two beardies, working type not KC showy variety, the coats of which are far to long and soft for working in the mud and rain, would hamper the dog. Show beardies dont have the instinct anymore, nice pets but not workers.
Steady on with that camera there - very hard to watch. A for content tho.
Too bad you only showed 2% of the BC in action, what a waste of time.
head lice of the hills, the sheep be.
