- In this video, we're going to learn how to play Bottom of the 9th! If you have any comments or questions, please do not hesitate to post them in the CZcams comments below.
Since the game got released to retail there have been a couple of rules adjustments. If you've learned the game from our video, then also see the notes here:
1) Home team (batting team) uses 6 players now. We use 4 in demos, but for a proper game it is 6.
2) When the home team chooses their lineup, they must ensure there are no duplicate positions. This means you can’t have 2 first base men, 2 left fielders, etc. This is to help ensure the home team player can build a more balanced team.
3) During the Run! phase, the lead runner is who is thrown out, not the Batter. So if there was a Runner on Second when your runner ran to first, the runner at Second is removed and a new runner is placed on first. This helps ensure there is movement on the field during hits as opposed to leaving a runner stranded on second/third with no way to advance them.
4) Crushes were ‘modified’ to be LEGAL CONTACT against a Strike Pitch. Legal contact meaning you can’t crush (a 6 roll) against a Strike 6, as tied Strikes always result in a Foul Ball.

I have to admit I'm a baseball fan and it took me awhile to figure out what an "oat" was. :)
Then I remembered....Canadian.
I will always play the the batting team is the Royals in memory of our great 2014 run to the World Series with a chance to win in the 7th game in the Bottom of the 9th!
mayneric Yep, my Canadian-ese at work!
This was a quality video. Thank you for your clear and understandable review.
Thanks - glad you enjoyed!
My copy showed up in the mail today. Looks like only a few minor rule changes from the video. The batter now gets 6 cards instead of 4 and a crushed ball is a normal hit on a 1-2 which still requires the run phase. The rules don't make any mention that a relief pitcher can only be used one time but for anyone who knows baseball this would be common sense. Lots of variants on gameplay are in the rules to adjust the game to your liking and the amount of extra cards you get if you Kickstarted adds tons of variety. Your card will be a regular in my line-up Rodney. Looking forward to playing. Thanks for the video!
+Chad Byer My copy is still on the way, I look forward to seeing it!
I have had this game sitting on my shelf for over 3 years. I can't believe I never bothered to break it out!
Now's your chance!
I'm surprised you haven't done baseball highlights yet, considering you're a fan. I don't even really like baseball and I love it.
Baseball highlights 2045, that is.
+Joshua Davis Oh believe me, ther are LOADS of games I like that I haven't done videos for. So many games, so little time.
A clear and engaging explanation. Thank you for your effort...and apparently your very good taste in games worth purchasing!
Thank you kindly - glad you found it helpful!
Great video Rodney and really glad to hear how much you enjoy the game. This game is fun for sports game fanatics (like me) and I think that non-sports fans will love it as well.
After Further Review With Steve Tower I think so too.
Backed it before this video, but happy that you make a how to play.
Mads Schultz Here's hoping we get to see the game hit some more stretch goals!
I don't typically play tabletop sports games, or watch much sports. However, this game actually looks fun. So, I backed and I've got to say, I'm looking forward to playing it.. - Friar Jay
Wood Planet Gaming Lodge Hey Jay - hope you have a great time with it!
Great review! I am a big fan of baseball and baseball games. I must own about a dozen different ones (board, card, and computer). I backed this game and I cannot wait until it comes out. Looks fun and exciting. A quick, pitch-by-pitch simulation. Even though the result does not make sense some time - if the at-bat team does not score, the game technically ends in a tie - it looks like it could be one of those games that brings non-sports gamers over to sports board games.
John McGuinness The way it's described in the story of the game, is that the other team is so good, the underdogs really only have this one chance. If it goes to another inning, they are statistically sure to lose.
***** John is right. Games don't end in a tie.
not a fan of watching baseball on tv but i do enjoy playing sport games, i really didnt think i'd be a fan of this game but after watching the video im pretty sure im going to buy.
+Roamy Bard Thanks for checking out the video - hope you enjoy the game!
Looks interesting, will give it a look !!!!
excellent review
Glad you enjoyed the video :)
Hehe. A game that rolls dice, you win if you roll two consecutive 6's, and Luke is playing. Get ready to make a 10 minute opening video so you don't upload a 3 minute video, Rodney. :p
So that's why he invited me to play! :D
So, if the pitcher throws a strike, you go back to the stare down phase right? It doesn't specify in the rule book, so I assume you know haha.
+Anthony Medves I don't, actually :) It's been awhile since I've played, and haven't had a chance to get my retail copy back to the table yet.
Clearly the stadium is based on Fenway Park in Boston.
I wonder if any thought has been given for double/triple play rules? I was thinking that if a batter has a meeple on first, and a ball is hit, the pitcher can try rolling a 5 to nail the lead runner, and then again try to roll a 5 or 6 to nail the runner headed to first.
A few of the batters actually have abilities that cause singles to turn into doubles under certain circumstances.
You end up giving this game a try?
@@WatchItPlayed Wow, this is a blast from the past. Yeah, I definitely did. Because of your video, I ended up backing it on Kickstarter, and even got to play it with the designers at GenCon that year. This is a really great game that my fiancé absolutely destroys me in every time we play. She's a friggin' mind reader. I make her pick her selections first and she still knows that I'm doing every time.
@@theindyjt That's a scary level of accuracy! You might want to talk to her about lottery numbers.
just got my Big League Support expansion, now I have Rodney Whip on the same team as the Sentinels of the 9th. Best filler game ever.
+Ryan Heckel Ha! I like the sound of that team :)
If a power states any 2 ( R ) ( W ) can you choose the same R or W power twice, or does it confer that you just have access to both?
Also, at what point do you decide what powers you are using? Before dice are rolled or after or any time?
+Daniel Gallagher If you can believe it, I still haven't played my retail copy of this yet. Just been swamped with other things. I would hesitate to answer this without first getting that to the table. In the meantime, you might want to ask this on Board Game Geek.
What happens if the batter runs out of hitters? Seems that he should have 6 not 4, to handle bases loaded 2 outs.
There will be more batters available in the full game, this is just the players available in the free print and play version.
youperguy Yes, in the full game, you create a line up o 6 players. Something I probably should have mentioned.
Eh. That last speed element feels far too tacked on. Runners not advancing on a hit is also off-theme.
Definitely in the "not for me" category of Baseball games.
I'm happy to see that the video helped you decide one way or the other!
Interesting game, the possibility for the batter to instantly win by rolling 2 6s in a row doesn't seem to be fun for the pitcher though.
That's like what though? 2.5% percent chance? It doesn't seem too bad to me.
Yeah, plus the game apparently lasts like 15 mins so you could easily play best of three or something in that scenario
Red Mage You have to roll a 6 specifically against a Pitcher when they roll an S. A 6 rolled against a B value is not a crush. Then after crushing, you have to roll another 6. Then the pitcher can catch the ball at the wall if they roll a 6. So it's going to be pretty rare on the whole, I would say.
Wait where do I go to print out the game
francisco Cedeno You used to be able to over at the Kickstarter page for the game (which is linked in the description of this video), not sure if you still can.
+Watch It Played yeah you still can. I found it but it only comes with 2 pitchers and 4 batters but it's still ok considering it's free.
And I meant where on Kickstarter cause I went to the page and couldn't find it but I finally found it. thank you
Well with dexterity elements, it makes this game pass for me sadly. I'm a handicapped gamer, so anything involving dexterity puts me at a disadvantage to any other player.
Good news! They actually have a variant that will be included in the game to allow for turn based die rolling once contact has been made, for those less inclined towards the dexterity element.
