    What separates John from the rest including Medina and Felipe is his own unique style that we all love and admire .the relaxed posture droping down and waiting for the right moment to attack without any extra egotistic nuances .his surfing is selfless but yet explosive and therefore more likeable, a true artist that doesnt overdo things and belives that Less is More .

      I hate all the failed air attempts though, I love john johns surfing because he can do a huge air but he also does these huge powerful laybacks. Medina surfing is wave after wave he goes for an air and fails until sometimes he lands and gets a 10

      Absolutely true and i like how relaxed he is ,waiting for the right moment to attack ,in away he looks like he is riding a skateboard ramp bowl with his hands down super relaxed and not forcing it or over riding it just flowing with it as being part of the wave and not the surfer .thats what i think separates him from all the rest including Medina and Felipe .its all about the style .JJ is an artist riding waves

    John John absolutely destroyed this contest. When waves get big there are few people that can match his power and style. I see people commenting that Filipe was better but you can just look at their turns and see what I’m talking about. John goes vertical into the lip while Toledo either does floaters, wraps, or on the end sections glides with the lip of the wave. He’s just not as powerful as John but Toledo is still a great surfer, especially in smaller waves. Great comp, hope the season has the best waves!

    Filipe vacilou!

    JOHN JOHN IS BACK! Mad respect to Felipe, he surfed a great heat and contest. But John John was playing chess while everyone else was playing checkers the whole contest. J.J. just felt at home in these big conditions. Looked like J.J. was surfing Sunset back home during some of those heats with those big hacks and top and down turns all over the face of the wave. But we all know the World Champion isn't crowned in big surf, usually it's won in smaller surf and you have to spin it to win it with the air game. That's how Gabriel Medina won it last year. He was poping airs at Pipeline to win. But we all know John John has that air game... gonna be a fun year to watch! Little prayer that everyone stays healthy all year and they get solid surf and don't settle for weak waves just to satisfy the sponsors or some TV contract. I know money is king but this surfing and waves matter...

    Florence is really great. And honestly i think may be he is a little bit better than Medina and Toledo. But the judges tends to give him too much high scores. Friday for example, he surfed a really comum wave and they give him a 7 high. Then he surfed a good one, nothing too great, and the judges were obligated to give him a 9. 5 or something. Is like "for that simple wave we give him 7 high now with that good one what we do?"

  • @kunaneebinger6605
    @kunaneebinger6605 Před 5 lety +1

    Everyone thinks the scoring was in John John's favor but he's doing these carves and power hacks on waves that are huge! If every break was this big on tour, nobody would even be close in matching his ability! Brazilians better hope the rest of the contest this year is 1 to 4 feet surf. Then they might have a chance! JJF IS DEFINITELY THE BEST SURFER IN THE WORLD! BY FAR!

  • @sacrificedduo1018
    @sacrificedduo1018 Před 5 lety +5

    So many complaints about the scoring of these waves ahha. The truth is, no one knows what's really on the judges criteria for scoring waves. Toledo missed the whole starting section of his last wave, that was the most crucial aspect of the wave and had the most opportunity for high scoring potential which most likely explains the 5.9 or something. If he just made one decent turn he would've had the score and i'm sure he knows it.

    FT got shafted. He took bigger waves n surfed them just as good. That's politics for you. Judges are backing JJ just like they did for Slater all those years.
