I REMEMBER WHEN IT WAS ON TV I WROTE IT DOWN AND STAYED HOME TO SEE EVH .. THE SKY WAS CRYING WHEN SEV PASSED TODAY THE WORLD IS CRYING ..R.I.P EDDIE VAN HALEN
@@judithryle2113 I have always wondered why they stayed together that long if they were so unhappy, since it would have been no skin off of Eddie's back being a millionaire to have paid her alimony if he divorced her. I figure it must have been love that kept them together.
That’s hard to watch now, I was only 16 with posters of Eddie and Magazine covers of Valerie all over my bedroom....I remember this interview as if it was yesterday. Without the internet, you didn’t see videos of Eddie much, I couldn’t wait to watch their interview.... RIP EVH....
When Valerie’s Family lived in Shreveport, because her dad ran the local GM plant here, and they would come to town to visit, back then Shreveport had a pretty big music scene and her brothers would take them out and there are tons of photos of Eddie sitting in with all kinds of different bands in Shreveport. And he must not have ever packed for the visits because there are tons of photos of Eddie on Tour wearing t-shirts he must have got from her brothers that have some local schools high school name or Shreveport YMCA. There’s a photo of them in Hollywood at some premier and he has on a Captain Shreve Gators football t-shirt. That’s one of the largest high schools in Shreveport.
@Crimson Idol Eddie was a total workaholic, he used booze to work. His band mates were the ones partying and hanging out with groupies, especially DLR and Sammy Hagar.
Wow! Never thought I'd see this again! I remember watching this with my guitar in hand trying to cop a few licks as they flew by in the pre-VCR days of my youth. Weird seeing Maria Shriver in her early gig.
Eddie wrote music that changed my life. A lot of peoples lives. And he always acted so appreciative of his fans. He was a class act and always will be.
He was my favorite guitarist. He inspired me a lot. I wish I could have met him one day but once in the 80s during the concert I stood on my chair and waved my baseball cap at him and he looked right at me and smiled. I will never forget that.
She embarrassed him with saying he was living with his parents when she met him, many ages do it all over the world, that is normal, that is family, that judgment is a shame. I'm glad they had some good times and Wolfie. Sympathy goes out to his wife Janie and Wolfie.
my sympathy goes to Valerie too he was her first love and they still had a great relationship she even called him my love when she wrote her online tribute she wrote see you in the next life my love
yea she wrote in herbook that she always loved him but she couldnt take the drinking and that she couldnt let wolfie see that anymore atleast ther still good friends
I remember seeing this in '83 or so and taping it because VB looked hot and Eddie played the intro to "Women in Love." Have looked for it here before but only found it now. Quite a treasure.
Gosh, I want a guy like Eddie so bad, especially like at 4:04 - 4:22 to just sit and listen to that special someone who makes that beautiful sound all day :) I mean it look cozy and so romantic!
Looks can be deceiving...and they were... Eddie's various addictions had a real choke hold on him. That and the endless, ever present, after concert, groupies... Eddie couldn't resist the trappings of the Rockstar lifestyle. Valerie had her own problems with cocaine, too. Also, she admitted to cheating on Eddie. Only I think she did it because she didn't want to look like a fool being the only one... How very sad for them both...
Don’t forget, according to Valerie, they cheated on each other and Ed said she cheated first. Either way, this marriage was a mess. Kind of sad because I always thought they looked like there was nothing but love between them and it ended because Edward was a drunk and refused to quit smoking after getting cancer. But, her book showed it was so much more.
Hearing Eddie play for just a bit there is a great example as to why I love Van Halen(both Roth and Hagar years. They were both AMAZING) The band knew how to mix melodic hard rock with a feel-good/kinda pop sense to it. Not pop like Madonna, but I mean they weren't as dark as Black Sabbath.
Oh but these are my memories about this particular vid. Not every comment is going to conform to the way you see the world. "CZcams is supposed be an open forum for vids and etc..not a forum for comments such as these. cheers." Darling, the beauty about an open forum is that it gives people the freedom to comment and give their opinion as they want to, NOT what there suppose to!
Yes. Exactly...Van Halen is Hard Rock when it's at its hardest like Hot for Teacher, or maybe Panama but they're in the middle. But definitely at the best when it comes to *quality* of the music.
They were each others one true great love. Sadly his addictions got in their way. But I firmly believe even though not together they still were very much in love. And now she's lost him.
2020 - I want to close my eyes and wake up in the 80s right now. Ugh.
Peggy I feel you darlin. The good times are over

This "New World Order" SUCKS.

Their marriage lasted 20 years, which in the rock world is a lifetime!
But they were not happy that long
They were married 26 years, but separated the last 6 years. Never stopped loving each other.

@@darkeststar3640 Are you sure about that?
Look!!
Back in 1982 Eddie was already working on "Panama". He plays it al 4:19.
They lasted longer than 99% of other celebrity couples. You gotta give 'em that.
I agree. They really set the standard really high.
Happy Anniversary Valerie & Eddie!
My God Valerie was absolutely stunning back then!!! Eddie was one seriously lucky s.o.b.........
She was and still is
Valerie and Eddie look like twins in a way.
Different features.
Exactly!! 😉❤️
Yes, I thought the same, they look alike, even the hair.
Perfect match❤️

The premier was Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.
Love Eddie's reaction when the groupies are mentioned. "No of course not! I'm married!"
They'd only been married one year at that point. Maybe he was telling the truth?
🤯
@@sbc8861 I believe him
He wasn't one of them
@Crimson Idol Eddie was a total workaholic, he used booze to work. His band mates were the ones partying and hanging out with groupies, especially DLR and Sammy Hagar.
Eddie & Val looked so perfect together ♥️
Yes they did
Yes perfect
💖
The were Perfect Together, True Love .
They looked like siblings.
Wow 1982.....seems like a 100 years ago. VH was the biggest rock band in the world. Valerie was a sweetheart of a woman. Time goes so fast...
True love never fails nor ends
Those were the days of my youth. I can’t believe they stayed together for so long. I loved those two. RIP EVH💔💔💔
The song he's playing sitting with Val is Woman In Love from VH 2
Brings a tear to my eye to see this. RIP Eddie Van Halen
Wow! Never thought I'd see this again! I remember watching this with my guitar in hand trying to cop a few licks as they flew by in the pre-VCR days of my youth.
Weird seeing Maria Shriver in her early gig.
She posted part of this on Instagram and I wanted to see more so I’m glad you put this up
Eddie wrote music that changed my life. A lot of peoples lives. And he always acted so appreciative of his fans. He was a class act and always will be.
I see Valerie is a cat person too. 😻
I will always love you Eddie. RIP rock on Eddie rock on 🤘🎸🎸🎸❤️
Eddie is drinking beer from a big mug at 4:40. It must have been a morning interview.
RIP eddy ❤️
Cool to see Eddie playing Panama riff in ‘82! He probably was playing it years before this even. Genius.
God, I've always loved Diver Down's Little Guitars! That was my favorite on the album.
Love the 2 of them together at 4:01. :) Rest In Peace Eddie.
Those smokes are going to catch up to him one day. I guess we all have our weaknesses.
That day might be here soon, unfortunately.
Yup. Today.
Very sad
He was my favorite guitarist. He inspired me a lot. I wish I could have met him one day but once in the 80s during the concert I stood on my chair and waved my baseball cap at him and he looked right at me and smiled. I will never forget that.
Too bad such great talent
so sad-they were very much in love-but then shit happened-I hate it when that happens
I always see your comments on stuff lol
One of the best?!? He WAS THE BEST LOL.
Still is and may very well be in my lifetime....
Thanks for posting--that was cool to get to see Eddie play guitar--awesome!
Eddie didn't sound to convincing when he question about his parting while on the road....Valerie had to answer for him.
May you rest in peace, Edward.
I love you, brother.
Great video! I could probably listen to Eddie noodle for days! WOW the future first lady of Califonia interviews Valerie and a drunk Eddie!
She embarrassed him with saying he was living with his parents when she met him, many ages do it all over the world, that is normal, that is family, that judgment is a shame. I'm glad they had some good times and Wolfie. Sympathy goes out to his wife Janie and Wolfie.
Koo
but who has money then lives still with their parents?
phyllis dawson he probably didn’t bother because he was touring all the time or in recording studios.
my sympathy goes to Valerie too he was her first love and they still had a great relationship she even called him my love when she wrote her online tribute she wrote see you in the next life my love

Aw damn.....this is sweet and sad now.
I love how Shriver talks over Eds solo This is Love.
That chord progression turned into the score for part of 'The Wild Life' later on in 85.
yea she wrote in herbook that she always loved him but she couldnt take the drinking and that she couldnt let wolfie see that anymore atleast ther still good friends
fair, i had never seen a vid with ed playin the women in love intro. sweet.

The intro to Panama...very cool. Great musician, always creating the next thing ;)

And wow the newscaster was Maria Shriver (wife of the Governator!). Great find! Thanks for sharing.
RIP 🙏🏻 Eddie
I loved One Day At A Time.
You're right! I never noticed that.
Yeah I noticed that too, the people that were watching got a sneak peek of what the next AWESOME Van Halen album would be like.
her brothers are very lucky, shes so talented! and beutifull
Is he really the lead guitarist? He is the only guitarist! He does both jobs.
F.U.C.K. is a great album man, probably one of the best guitar sound ever
Actually, there were parts from Panama and Women in Love in this interview.
The only thing was eddie had a hard time finding a shirt.
R.I.P EVH
I heard a little Panama in there two years before 1984..
5:31 This is what every man dreams of doing for his woman.
Man, watching him answer that drugs question was painful.
=VH= fan till i die
They looked so good together. Sweet humble souls.
probably the best comment i've ever seen on here!!!!!!!!!
$20,000 per episode.. just amazing
Ed just played a little bit of Panama at 04:18 years before the actual song. Wish this interview was more about Ed with Valerie as a side note.
It was the song "Women in Love" from Van Halen II.
The intro.
love that cat
My cousin Maurice Godwin acted with her in Americana cafe, great show too bad. It got cancelled, was. Good! Such a pretty woman in and out :)
What did Maurice say about Eddie?
"valerie was on TOP OF THE WORLD" how ironic that would be the title of one of vh's hits
At 4.18 Edward starts Panama which was not even released in 1982.
I watch her every Saturday morning on Food Network, she's a friend in my head!🌻
Seeing Maria Shriver so young is cool too

Yes her book showed it was coke.
"Little Guitars", off of the Diver Down album.
Lol, he was hammered during the interview
Sometimes your job and marriage dont mix. Something has to give.
all are great guitar players and richie sambora (bon jovi) brian may (queen)stevie ray vaughan

Ed turned that song from 4:00 into a song called "Love Song" in 1984
valerie is such a sweetheart, i love her, sorry ed dont get mad, i love you too
VanHalen a hard rock band? I never thought they were. They were awesome though.
You can tell the way Valerie dug Eddie, the way she looks at him at 5:02 when Eddie's asked if the late nights with groupies are true.
You're right Panama is there. It's not 100% what we know from 1984. But it was definately there.
Here About It Later - Van Halen's Fair Warning Album
it's a variation/combiniation of an arpeggiated(instead of tapped) "women in love..VH II" and "Pananma ..1984"
you are correct.
I think that is Maria Scriver giving the interview?
Yes, she was.
That's so cool that first guitar licks he was play was an early version of panama
True although I think Eddies son in the band is pretty cool. They have a link to a younger crowd and can be classic and new at the same time.
It's worth watching this just for 4:03-4:24 where you hear him play rough Panama. Ed is bad ass.
actually, dave wrote almost all the lyrics and helped come up with melodies.
was he playing an early version of panama in there?
Sounds like it

And now she's lost him.
i like the question about the groupies,"of course not,i'm married"hehehe, that was a good one.
she looked seriously pissed off at eddie about the groupie question haha
He probably has his own bodyguard too.
