As the president of Obstacle Sports Canada, I'd like to clarify Phillipe's comments that there were no Canadians at the event. In fact, Canada had 4 athletes in attendance. The reason it may have seemed like there were no athletes from Canada was that BOCRA placed the Canadian athletes under Australia (a mistake we decided not to raise a stink about). The event was promoted in Canada but due to costs, many decided not to go.

I think that one of the problems was what legal systems the gentlemen come from. And the rules of international law and conflict of laws will certainly have to be applied. In many European countries, for example in Poland (I'm not sure if it's the same in Belgium), oral contracts concluded in the presence of at least two witnesses are binding on the parties! ⚠️ If this is the case in Belgium, trust in the legal validity of an oral contract is understandable.

Thx Matt you made this interview. Waiting (hoping) for a response from Ian / FISO / WorldObstacle. I think it's worth to check how FISO was created, how it works, what it is at all?

Extremely controversial from Ian. As per that document, he states that us TO's shouldn't be compensated. But on the same day that it went out, we had a Zoom call with Ian where he commented why this was not acceptable that we were out of pocket. He even stated that he was massively out of pocket himself.

Very disappointing to see how this whole thing panned out & the impact it has & will continue to have as more information comes out. Waiting to hear if you can get a response from FISO/Ian

He's obviously missed half of things that were happening in FISO. Band system was introduced, tested and proven to be more effective than burpee penalties in queue management. He must have forgotten the queues in Euros every year and people camping at the obstacles.
Also sound like Ronny should answer a good few questions there too.
I saw written communication from Ronny guaranteeing profit and payments to TOs. What I didn't see is numbers supporting the claims of a loss.
The main message in this conversation: He said - she said...

…and in an evaluation your opinion of the three band system would be included. But it is massively unpopular for many and athletes were never asked. Same goes for laser pistol. It’s not really about the specific decisions. It is about not asking or listening to athletes.

What you saw from Ronny was a suggestion/proposal concerning the payments to T.O's not final desicion or agreement. Let's not forget that Ronny only communicated from his function within World Obstacle (never from BOCRA) which is vice chairman of the Competition Commitee and always with approval from Ian in final desicions.

Sure, but so far I have not seen any proposals for a better system that would eliminate the queues at obstacles ;-)
And Ronny suggested what exactly? Also many are talking about support, but can one of ye define support in terms of World Champs? What sort of support you think there is in Olympic Games for a hosting Country? ;-)

@@serhazor regarding system and queues, I remain in favor of mandatory completion and dedicated rows for first tries. To be clear, queues don’t happen at the top level and my opinion is that it is vastly detrimental to the sport that top level competition be hampered by the weakness of so-called age group racers (to be clear, I am a age grouper at best). Moreover, the three band system is horrible for coverage (multiple times I’ve seen the first few athletes come towards the finish and no one, including commentators knows whether they’re about to finish or do their penalty loops - and if there’s no excitement in following, how will we grow that side of the sport?)
Regarding support: First off I don’t think any country has ever said “listen, we can’t really afford hosting the Olympics, can you support us”, and still gotten to host. If what the interviewee here says is true (and I have no inside knowledge of the events), then support was promised.
What’s more, even if financial support wasn’t an option, why is this so-called global federation so minimally involved in actually hosting the biggest event of its history? If world obstacle isn’t there to ensure successful competition on this stage, and fair treatment of athletes at all levels, why do we even have them? Add on to that that there were multiple examples given in the video of free ways for world obstacle to support attendance of the event, that they chose not to do. These suggestions may very well have helped BOCRA, so they didn’t get hit as hard financially.
