  • The wind falls flat calm while I enter the Old Florida Channel. Fortunately the flooding current assists my labors with the sculling oar and takes me straight to the anchorage off of Key Biscayne. Nice. I drop anchor just before midnight, completing the passage from Bermuda in thirteen days. Following a few weeks of rest I am then headed southwest to the Florida Keys.

Marathon is our home base. We anchor at Ceasar's flats a bunch. The reef system is so extensive to the east we don't get much swell. The channel is so far away that no power boats ever come close, we love it! Glad you found it.

Ha! So it's known by the locals. Agree it's quite a pretty and decently sheltered spot so long as the wind isn't southerly.

2 days traveling the opposite direction Marathon to No Name, I entered about 1:15am on a moonless night. Never been there before, I overshot the entrance by about 6 miles and had to double back. Thank goodness for Navionics. Had to use my engine entering and it was comforting to hit each channel marker as advertised on the chart illuminated by a hand-held spotlight. There was a lot of anchored cruisers when I got in and was searching for a spot to drop the hook. First time i misjudged and was swinging too close to another boat. Hauled it all back in and moved up a bit and reset. Within 2 min the sky opened up and a wall of water dropped onto me. Exhausted I stripped, flopped into my berth and fell right asleep. Spent 2 days recovering before moving on. Great memories. I will visit again someday but next time i hope to have company. Its a little frustrating when you experience amazing things and when solo theres no one to immediately share the experience with.

Again, welcome to my neighborhood. Always though that was a good ⚓ location. Specially with north by northeast winds. Thanks. Now I have the answer to the holding.

Looks like a beautiful sail! After being out at sea, I would think being close to the city lights could bring some comfort. Fair winds.

Great Job on this video, Kevin.
Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. I hope your family is fairing OK. I lost my father over 40 years ago and still I miss him him terribly. He won his first sailboat playing poker in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii while he was in the army. He was there 07DEC41. He shipped out to Saipan, while his sailboat was left in the harbor.
Many years later, while living in Chicago, he bought a Lightning class sailboat. It was 1965, while I was 9, when he taught me how to sail and changed my life forever. Watching your videos really bring back years of wonderful memories with him. Thank You for sharing your awesome life with us.
    Much Love and Hugs.

Baby Ruth harbor is listed on active captain as old Rhodes alternate Anchorage. The shoal to the East has a note that it's part of the Biscayne national Park. I wonder if a try hard park ranger would bother you even though you're on the hawk side of the keys.

From some of the locals in the comment section it appears (1) many of them use this anchorage and (2) they don't get bothered by officials.
