MY PROFILE:
I started fishing when I was just a young kid and instantly fell in love with Bass Fishing. Started fishing tournaments when I was in high school and have been fishing them ever since. For years I fished every tournament I could enter sometimes fishing as many as 45 tournaments a year. I qualified for the Elites when I was 30 but didn't have the sponsors or money to compete so I turned it down. Got sponsor support later and fished the FLW Tour for 2 years and having been fishing the Toyotas since 2006. I’ve won 5 Angler of the Year Titles becoming the only fishermen to have more than 3 AOYs in the Toyota series. Won numerous events along the way that has helped shape my way into working for Strike King as head of product innovation. Along the way, I picked up a camera and started filming my endeavors. I have now fallen in love with making videos about fishing and delivering it to you. Follow along the journey...it should be an honest and fun ride! - Zábava
Carolina rig is a co-anglers best friend. 💡for the CO’s in the back that aren’t listening and don’t know what consistently carrying a body bag to the scales feels like.
Love these Carolina rig videos. I’d love to see you do a series on all the deep techniques you like this time of year.
legend out here giving out legendary tips. tackle warehouse cart is filled from this vid pray for my cc bill. 🙏
😂😂
True, but then boater dick goes around corner of bushes on you and you got 1/4 mile line out
Excellent advice and great 11 pound catch. Thanks for the video.
awesome C-rig overview and tips, Todd !! I KNOW I need to fish it more, but I never do. Back when I used it yrs ago, it ALWAYS produced! I think we get so caught up in new stuff/techniques that just push it off. Thanks for the reminder. Obviously pre and post spawn are ideal times, even though it works yr round. 17:13
Great info as always. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge.
Thanks for the video.
Great video i love the C-rig,it's always tied on
👍 Thanks for another great video! Your no nonsense keep it simple approach is awesome
Just got back from Lake Chickamauga and we struggled. I told my partner that when we struggle, go back to the basics and throw your confidence baits. He finally caught a 5.25 lber. I DREAD having to throw a carolina rig, to the point I am stubborn, but I do realize it's important to humble yourself and get it back out on those sunny, clam water conditions.
Great info, again. I don't fish a c rig much but I will try it. Thanks.
Great video, I appreciate you giving us the juice on the Carolina rig, I will be coming back to this video until I get it memorized!🎣
Thanks Todd! Bad ass video and fish!
Thanks Todd
You will love the new custom lite I got a 7-1 heavy and paired it with hyper mag reel man it’s great
Great video! This is my favorite YT fishing channel! Gotta throw the C-rig more!!
Definitely
Great Content
Carolina Rig has been an East Texas staple for over 30 years .I keep 2 on my deck almost year around👍
Excellent video… and it points out a problem that many fishermen have…. Making things more complicated than they need to be. Simple is good.
👍
Awesome Video!! I still get laughed at for having one tied on every time I go out. 😎
Good stuff
Nice Video 👍
This is good stuff....
My buddy taught his daughter to fish using a C-rig and he literally told her.."feel em bite, make sure it's heavy, start reeling fast, let the fish and a good hook do the work" no traditional hookset, and she has caught quite a few giants.
It’s the technique all my buddies use to teach kids ir people as well
I love old school fishing. Doesnt cost as much as lures. If you rig it right and you snag, no biggie
I too, am a dinosaur that throws the C rig on Northern Champlain a lot. 3/4 Oz standard, occasional 1 ounce. Nice fish bud! Giant
Love the c-rig glad a lot of people don’t. Level makes a great c-rig rod also. Do you ever fish the Peter T rig that’s a “old school “ rig that works great up shallow for me also. I guess now a days all you need is a jig minnow 😂😂😂. Thanks for your tips love the way you fish just like me I can’t get into this finesse stuff. Will do it if forced but I like catching bigs and in santee the finesse will get your heart broke.
Good one Todd, old school 😂
Last spring early, pre spawn, I used a floating worm 🪱 20lb spider wire. And wrecked them! Great video. Thanks for sharing!
Dang spider wire is a line I haven't heard of people using in a long time. Never liked it much
At my home lake, it ya don't use 29lb or 30lb braid of some kind to rip the 5+fish out of the oak trees or the cedar trees ya don't get paid, it's that simple. And seems on a horable day, that ya tie into a few 40in musky's and that's when your poles and reels start to fail.
@Mjones8383 but I must credit the lv34 live scope that I installed last spring. The learning curve was very short once I had seen the muskies on the screen. They are unmistakable, that alown has saved me hundreds in spinner baits and flipping jigs and broken poles and totalled out reels. Lol 😆
Cover some water one ounce weight big line will never stop throwing it and have caught probably more fish In my years of fishing with it . Many big fish on it .
Great vid Todd! What’s anybody’s thoughts about C-rigging at night? Thanks!
The CR is always on my deck at TB!!
You sure had the mojo(not rig!) on that lunker beauty. Showed just why you should give it a try.
Another great tip is to use a tungsten football head weight as a c rig, it really helps from getting snagged in the rocks. Still hang up but its at least half
I got a hot take. The Carolina rig is the Texas version of the drop shot
Agreed
@@toddcastledinefishing5924 I expected more kickback on that, but spinning rod Todd is way more receptive to that comparison than the old Todd.
Its really more of a Texas thing than a Carolina thing. When I travel the country I rarely find people who throw it, but its worked on every lake I've ever been too.
When I've fishing on the bottom, I almost always start with a C-rig. Things gotta be tough for me to put it down
Grown to love the c rig. Z man baits make it even better
You mean strike king
😂
@@toddcastledinefishing5924 strike king needs to make a soft plastic that floats like elaztech. Would be perfect for a C rig
@stevekeen7035 they do actually. The zero too is an awesome fluke style bait and its salted so it doesnt float as much. Looks way more natural than zman baits
@stevekeen7035 Strike King does….the Z Too (fluke) and 3X Super Finesse worms are both Strike Kings version of Elaztech, and both are excellent on a Carolina Rig IMO
I absolutely suck with a C-Rig. I need to work on it more this season but in our rocky Colorado reservoirs, dragging can just be a pain.
Nice video great setup. How does livescope influence your c rig fishing?
Not much so far, you don’t have to see a fish eat your bait, sometimes just knowing they are there is just as important
Try a gp coffee tube with a couple foam ear plugs stuffed in it on your c rig around bream beds
You mentioned using braid or 25 pound test. Any particular braid you recommend? Thanks
I know a older tournament fisherman that does nothing but C rig.
This past weekend the post front bluebird day kicked my A. I thought about what he told me. You need to throw that c rig on those days. That is when it shines. Do you agree with this? Do you ever tell yourself on those post front days when it is tough, time to break out the c rig? I noticed the blue sky and sun in your video like I was fishing in Yesterday..
the c-rig is a san diego staple. you can book end the spawn with that technique out here.
Question...On your Game Hawg do you use the normal size or magnum???
How useful is the C-rig in the Ozark region? So many vertical/jagged drops. Is this mainly for gravel banks around here? Thanks for the video.
Table Rock and Ozarks I smoke them on, it works everywhere.
Todd hard to tell in the video do you have the clacker between the wieght and swivel or above it ? I would assume above it ? I always used glass before but I’ve had em break to I think clacker is the way after watching this just want to get the most out of it … also any take on the strike king ez c rig ?
Yes in between the weight and swivel. I’m assuming you’re asking about a pre rigged Carolina rig. I don’t know about that or if they have one, reason is I’ve never used one and don’t recommend them..
What's your honest take on the rod? Is it a heavy, med/hvy or somewhere in between? Nice catch Todd!
I used that rod I mentioned a bunch the past 3 days, over 50 fish catches, it'd the right rod.
I want to try that here in Michigan
It’ll work I promise
9:03 "It's not that big of a deal" as I get my tape measure out so I can measure from the center of my chest to my finger tips. 32" for anyone wondering, so I bet Todd's would be 3' foot. 😆
Rod link is a bust. I am pretty sure you have a Lite-HM85. I have the Mag-Jig model, f-ing love it.
Thanks for fishing content and no FFS nonsense.
No its the right link it takes you to the rod version then you select 7'6 the only version its the heavy fast tip.
@@toddcastledinefishing5924 Cool, thanks..
I checked the link at Tackle Wearhouse for the Lew’s custom Speed Stick Lite and discovered there is three versions. Are you using the Heavy weight or Medium Heavy?
Heavy
What size/number is that swivel?
I live near and fish mostly Highland Lakes. No grass just mostly rock will this work for as well on those ? I have used a C Rig with a lizard with some success but that's about it.
Smashed them on all those lakes, Cumberland, Cherokee, Hartwell, table rock. list goes on and on
Todd, I got a question. How cold can the water be to fish a carolina rig? Got a tournament saturday and water temps are about 50°. Do you consider 50 warm enough to fish it?
I’ve never seen it too cold or too hot to fish. 50 degrees is perfect
Todd I know it’s off topic but what water temp do you start throwing hybrid hunter? Live up north and water temp just now getting into 40s. By the way Randy Blaukat says you can’t catch them like you are doing it. He says ur video is BS lol😝
😂😂😂 I know some buddies who smash them in the low 40’s up north. As long as they are shallow
Yeah show em old school frank the tank
Do you still have the Haymarket hook in your arsenal? You use to rave about that hook
Yes I use it for almost everything else but this hook never fails on the c rig
Toad City USA.?!
So the 7ft6 med heavy fast tip or heavy fast tip do you think I should get
www.tacklewarehouse.com/Lews_Custom_Lite_Casting_Rods/descpage-LCLCR.html?from=tcast
7’6 heavy fast
So even from the bank?? Use 3/4 or 1once?? Or should I use 1/2 or 3/4??
3/4 I would still use, when I did the mash up of setting the hook all those fish were in less than 4 foot of water.
@@toddcastledinefishing5924 thank you
Did they replace that line of rods with the new custom lite rods?
No, I choose rods based on what I like, 300 dollar rods or 50 dollar rods. If it’s works right I use them
I looked on the website and only see like 3 rods left in that series? So I thought they discontinued some of them?
They might have but I only use 2 of them
Is that bird poo all over your front graphs?? 😂😂😂
No, I had been sight fishing and used a push pole
What size barrel swivel?
I’ve used every size I don’t think it matters one bit
And u don't use mono for ur leader cus it floats??
There is no real benefit from using mono plus its just extra work to have different size lines and different line. Keep it simple.
@@toddcastledinefishing5924 thanks for getting back to me
I know its going to be a long day if i have to pull out the C rig😂, its not my favorite thing to do, it really bothers me to drag a ball and chain
Not me, I like 11 pounders 😂
The problem with the carolina rig is knowing when to put it down.
I know you keep it simple by not having the 2 different lines. Why not braid and the flouro leader or mono leader?
Why change what has never been broken
True, braid and flouro leader has worked for me over 20 years so I've never done anything else.
I just don’t like putting that much force on fluro. That’s what braid will do, that’s what scares me
Wait a minute. You can still catch a fish without a Jughead and a minnow?
It was a shock to me as well😂😂
I throw Carolina Rig more than anything, and a jerkbait, Dang Todd, you are the stick man, Awesome Female
Thank you
If you're tying all Palomar knots, why on earth would you tie on your hook FIRST?!?! This makes no sense! You should first tie your swivel to your leader line. Next, tie on your leader. By tying your hook on last, you don't have to carry your main line Palomar over a hook, nor do you have to worry about your hook dangling, snagging you, the carpet, your line, or anything else, that may dull your hook or fray your leader. It's MUCH easier that way. That's just common sense, man. Youngsters! 😂
