Whernside, Yorkshire Dales

  • On our climb up Whernside, we found ourselves caught up in one of the Three Peaks Challenge. This meant a stream of walkers stretching miles in front and behind us. Returning back to Ribblehead Viaduct we noticed most walkers continued up towards Ingleborough.
So relieved my mission of finally completing and filming, all three peaks, (albeit annually) now accomplished.

You certainly picked a busy day Shanita! That is one of my favourite Dales walks and like Michael, for me, the best direction to do it in.....though the steep descent down the stone steps is hard work. Great film and congratulations on completing the Three Peaks. 👍

Thanks Chris for that. That steep ascent is a lot worse it looked on camera. Quite disorientating with the angle of steepness, but still something I will remember for a long time. Just to mentioned I did use my new Sony camera in between GoPro. (Wonder if you noticed a variation in audio quality though!) 🥾

Hi Shanita, looks like it was a fun atmosphere amongst the folks walking for charity. I loved seeing that gorgeous rainbow slicing through the overcast sky. Some interesting music on your descent, very 'chilled out'. I've never done the 3 peaks myself, but I've cheered a friend on who did a cycle, walk, and run race of the 3 peaks years ago. Take care, I always love 'joining' you and Michael on your walks. 💕🥾🌈

It's nice to share our walks and chit chat on route. It's definitely a challenge completing just one peaks let alone three in one go. The descent music 'Oceans Apart' a bit different from usual ambient styles, but seemed to fit the mood. Thanks Andee for kind comments.

I am relieved to read you too, found that descent a strain. I was wary of keeping balance so as not to fall. Glad you liked the film though.

Hi Shanita, well done on completing the Three Peaks! I've only ever done Pen-y-Ghent, so I've still got to do the other two some day. Wow it was sure busy during your walk, looked like the rest of Yorkshire was up there with you! 😆 Nice to see the both of you at the trig point on the summit. Now the first of your scores you composed here sounded familiar, so maybe I heard it in another of your films, but the second score I particularly liked as you were descending from Whernside. Hope you enjoyed your refreshment in the Station Inn at the end 👍

Thanks for congratulations. We didn't know the three peaks challenge was on that day. We fitted our climb to best weather in our short stay there.
You'r right. First track I used a basic theme or mottif used in a previous track but changed the melody. Re 'Oceans Apart'. I wasnt sure if my orchestral arrangement was suitable. Glad responses were favourable. All the best Patrick.

Popular route round. On my first trip I was surprised at how well maintained the main paths are. Other counties not all the same. Best wishes for your adventures in the new year. New sub for you.

Great area for walking with the iconic viaduct, I remember in one of your other videos you took a nice silhouette of the train passing overhead. Really like your two pieces Shanita, especially "Oceans Apart" with some lovely calming overlapping chord progressions.

Thanks so for positive comments. 'Oceans Apart' was an orchestral arrangement I recorded quite a while ago. I thought the panoramic views in my film might suit it. So I am pleased its gone down well.

Hello. It's a while sin I was on Batty Green. The Station Inn was one of the stop off points on our Boozie trips out. Way used to higher a bus and set off for a wild weekend. You wouldn't get away with it these days.

Yes indeed. We did recently saw a very ancient stone wall on local walk not uploaded yet. Michael very much into history and landscape archaeology so was able to explain.
