Being an American, I feel cheated that I didn't get to see Paul Hogan until Crocodile Dundee. I always wondered about him and his life, being genuinely funny in such a natural manner. Thank you for this.

Despite getting old myself... it makes it hard to see Legends like Hoges getting older. Such a beautiful man, honest and well centered. I thank him for my laughs and will Love him forever :)

When I was in Australia in the 1970s new friends exposed me to Paul Hogan's TV show. I still have never laughed so hard in my life. Not long after my return home Crocodile Dundee hit the big screen. I saw it in a packed theater and, because I knew the "lingo" and culture, more than once busted out laughing only to discover I was the only one. I was picking up on things the rest of the now laughing & looking at me audience hadn't. Hang in there Hoges & a good on ya mate for all of the joy & laughter you've brought the world.
Paul and his son were on a flight with me from LA to Sydney 6 years ago. I didn't get to talk to him since he was on the upper deck but I was thrilled to see him. If not for him and Crocodile Dundee, I probably wouldn't be visiting Australia in the first place!
Great to see a guy as humble as he is and realizes how lucky he is as well.
In the UK Paul was so different, so original and so damn funny. And came across as such a normal genuine bloke, we love him as much as the Aussies do !
So ...Paul Hogan actually had/started the first reality TV show! He was a big part of my childhood and as an American he made me LOVE Australians!!

Loved his show in the 70's. Great ambassador for Australia and a truly funny guy. It seems the most appealing celebs are always the ones who don't lose sight of humility and are relatable as honest, down to earth people. So glad Delvene was a big part of this. Same is true for her. Good people.

Fantastic memories. I had the good fortune to come to Aus in 1964, my mother is a Melbourne girl so it was an invitation to a different world having been raised in Canada. So these guys on the television and the very friendly people of sydney burned a nice on my brain. Cheers Sydney what a nice town.

Loved Paul Hogan. Funny man, good actor. He was perfect for the time he dominated.
Crocodile Dundee I and II were among the films I grew up with. I've seen both of them dozens of times. I love these films so much. The humor, the characters, the plot, the scenes that taught me about Australian outback... and the ones about New York, a city the size (at least in terms of population) of my country. Mick Dundee was my childhood hero.

The first time I ever saw Paul was the commercials we had in the US for the Australia tourism board. He was instantly likable.

I laughed harder than I have in ...I don't remember !! I LOVE that humor and it's based in reality, not that crap they call funny today. Women who are comfortable with themselves aren't offended by the truth.
I think we used to be people that were grown up enough to enjoy this type of humor... and today people are stepping backwards... not being able to tell the difference between fiction and reality.

Well, now I know why that was such a beautiful love story which apparently evolved organically from the script which wasn't at all about a love story. It wasn't acting. Paul was the coolest quick wit, like a macho handsome Benny Hill and Linda was really adorable adoring him.
He never sought out fame and it just came to him as if he were just that quintessential funny guy EVERYONE new in school or their social circle. He never had to "sell" Australia to the Americans, he was endearing himself to us here at home. We used to cross the bridge regularly travelling from Coogee to Umina and we always had a look for him on the bridge for many of those year's. He did succeed in ultimately bringing more of an understanding of our national identity to not only the U.S.A. but the world. I never saw Crocodile Dundee until it was on TV one night at a mate's place in 1989! Seeing my friend's son's light up as we had seeing him at it as he'd done right throughout his TV just made me not only laugh hard, but afterwards, we got into telling the boy's about this, what was the now of his totally, uniquely Paul Hogan character and it just dawned on me all over again of how proud we were to be Australian, clear of the "cultural cringe" we'd faced with the "tall poppy" syndrome claiming and disowning so much of what we loved about ourselves reflected bsck at us in the form of this iconic Aussie larrikin and folk hero. We smoked and nearly died from 'Winnie Blue's' and watched it all, laughing SO hard at him as us all, from "pink snd black to win", "let her rip Boris" to Mick Dundee. The tax office and their bloody witch - hunt of not so long ago is the is the only cultural cringe we ever felt and it was a feeling of shame and disgust in our government we in my family felt, while just loving the grin on Paul Hogan's face as he weathered the storm. I think everyone my age carry Paul Hogan in our hearts and minds as we grew up with him and his not so meteoric yet steadily, hard earned place in Australian comedy legend. "Anyhow, have a ........ " NOT!!!

Paul Hogan is a genuine treasure a good bloke.
I love his humbleness and modesty, and more so for the fact it never comes across as false humility. He really does believe that he's no-one special, I think that's part of his charisma and likeability. No airs or graces and no judgement, and he's amazingly grateful and graceful about his fame, no sense of entitlement about him. Shame he's not the role model for more people in Hollywood and the associated industry.

l lived in New York for 6 years around the same time that the Travel adds for visiting Australia came out. lt was the best 6 years ever and with my Australian voice l used it to my full advantage and everyone over there loved it.
One of the best things that ever came out of Australia
Paul Hogan isn't just smart, but he's also humble about it. He well may say: "I was just really good at doing IQ tests, but I'm not "really" clever". Now with actors, because they're so good at reading scripts, you can never actually tell one way or the other. But the evidence is always in how well they interview when they go off script.
And with some actors or musical popstars, you just cringe when you watch them doing an interview. And they're basically just boring and/or pompous. With Paul, he always has something meaningful to say, and he's always interesting, (without being pompous). And the fact that he's also funny, is just an added bonus and the icing on the cake.
That's why everyone wants to be just like him. Funny, smart, insightful about the human condition, (without being too pompous about it), a down to earth bloke and also someone who is really humble about their talents.
I thought the difference between Benny Hill and him was how he related to the ladies. They both essentially said the same thing but Paul seemed to create a sparkle with his politically incorrectness. Whereas, Benny lines created bitterness. I think your description of Paul is the key.
They were absolutely correct in thinking that their tourism commercials would be memorable, cuz I was a young kid when those were being shown here in the States, and I remember em to this day....
Ill never forget the Paul hogan show,sitting down with my dinner and my dad was a chronic alcoholic and the 1hr of the night we could relax and be together like a proper family...he had this magic about the show that everyone could relate too...I'm proud Australian and in hind sight wen looking back the Aussies had pure Australian TV like copshop,prisoner etc ....could go on forever but paulhoganshow captivated everyone on every scale...from been a child at age 8 or 9,all thru to grandparents....he had it all simple statements straight to the point no faaarking around....how time passes! 💯 👍👍👍

Delvene Delaney is a hell of a woman. Absolutely gorgeous (then and now), married to the same guy for 44 years, and when that guy's health fails, sticks by him. Damn....do they make 'em like that anymore?

I remember the first time I viewed those "good-day" commercials supporting, Australian tourism & recall telling my folks that I simply had to visit ! Of course my father's response was the typical,..."well,when you're an adilt, making your own money, realizing it doesn't grow on trees, you can go wherever you want...!" Needless to say, I've [still] never had the chance to visit those lovely Australian people & their most beautiful countrysides but I hope & I dream that perhaps "my ship will too come in one day!" I can promise y'all this, it hasn't been due to the lack of not working very hard & trying. That's all I've done since the age of 9...😉 Mr. Hogan's story in this here video was/is such a magnificent portrayal of his ride to stardom. Your average person with with an incredible posture on life. I simply adored this video & I thank those with whom assembled this for us all to enjoy ! The funny thing is that at first glance this guy never strike me like a tough guy but he plays his rol so convincingly well that at the end you beleive it.
The first movie I saw at a drive in was with my parents in SA and it was Crocodile Dundee. Now I live in USA occasionally someone will bring it up and even if its not popular to say it, I loved it. Paul Hogan is an Aussie icon, there's no changing that.

I worked as a video tape editor on "A Current Affair with Mike Willisee" for TCN 9 in Sydney (very early 70's) when they brought me the OB video tapes of some guy who was a rigger on the Harbour Bridge...we all stood around the old huge Ampex VTR and were gob smacked..the guy was VERY, VERY funny and totally a 'fair dinkum' Aussie!..the producers couldn't wait to give him a recurring role as an interviewer...the rest is history
When I moved to Australia from the USA I shared a house with a small group of Australians. I saw the Paul Hogan show and after 30 minutes I told my housemates this guy is one funny guy ... too bad he couldn't get a chance on American media ... years later he did and made a small fortune ... sadly he was lost to us down under. ... One funny guy!

I remember back in the 80's when my Dad bought one of those 8 ft satellite TV dishes that you stuck out in your yard. Everything was free, and you got all kinds of shows. One of the funniest was the Paul Hogan show. The other was the John Byner Comedy Hour.
Good to see him out and about. I really like his character

Back in 82 a new TV channel (Channel 4) started up here in the United Kingdom which aired The Paul Hogan Show and unbeknown to me my dad watched it too,me upstairs and him in the front room and it was one of if not the funniest show on TV at that time outside of the UK. He did this one sketch where he played a skateboarder and visited a hospital and to this day I’ve never laughed so hard at one sketch constantly over the years as i have at that. First time i knew my dad was a fan was when he suggested we go and see Crocodile Dundee at the cinema. After that we’d sit and watch the show together and laugh our arses off every week.
Loved his comedy show. Loved his croc movies (just the first 2).

And why don't people like it? I understood in the 70s when women were fighting for jobs and just to be acknowledged as being fully human. However, men enjoying women bodies is perfectly - and importantly - natural. I'm at a loss to find anything wrong in it. I guess I don't understand why men do support this? Why should men be ashamed of their natural sexuality. Anyway, I just don't "get it" or what's being accomplished.
@@AstralPixie People have their opinions about lots of things, but the main reason western men are harassed for the natural urges that drive the survival of humanity is a concerted effort by Marxist types to emasculate the west. The main sources of conflict or resistance when trying to seize power are a bunch of strong men acting on their cultural conscience. Undercut that, and wreck the strength of a nation - the family - and you can roll in unimpeded. You can see it happening now with these lockdowns that few resist - and those that do resist are met with a bewildering preponderance of legal and physical force.
So when you find yourself asking a question like the one you did - just answer it. Why should men be ashamed of their natural sexuality? They shouldn't. Now look into why exactly someone would want to accuse and harass a man for his natural sexuality, and follow that nasty little thread as far as you can.

My strongest memory of Hoges is that skit he did of the giant yobbo walking across the roof of skyscrapers and dropping tinnies and thongs on the people below. My mother rolled around on the floor crying with laughter.
I remember the New Faces that Hoges was on like it was yesterday. The garbage bin with his props inside caught our attention and his performance was funny too. I can't remember what he did only that it was hilarious.
