  • Schorsch Nickaes, DYNAFIT Product Director and Mountain Guide shows how to start ski touring. He gives informations about the basic equipment, tips for your first ski tour and demonstrates the preparation for the uphill and the downhill performance.
    Basic gear includes ski touring skis, ski toouring bindings, and skins for the uphill. Besides you need ski touing boots, poles and snow safety equipmnet. Especially for backcountry tours shovel, probe and avalanche beacon are essential. Also you have to carry a helmet for the down.
    First touring attempts are best done near groomed runs. Many ski areas now have adapted to ski tourers and have formed several ski touring parks or mark touring climbing routes. More information to make your start into ski touring easier can be found in the following links:
    // Basics & Equipment: www.dynafit.com/how-to-skitour
    // On-Piste ski touring: www.dynafit.com/easy-entry-into-skitouring
    Every ski tour starts with the uphill. Before you start you have to prepare your gear, therefore follow further steps:
    // Step 1: Fix the skins on the skis.
    // Step 2: Switch the bindings from downhill mode into uphill mode.
    // Step 3: Adjust your ski touring boots in uphill mode.
    // Step 4: Setup the poles acorrding to your body length.
    // Step 5: Step in the bindings and block them.
    After you have reached the summit it is important to prepare your gear for the downhill:
    // Step 1: Step out of the bindings and turn the bindings from uphill mode into downhill mode.
    // Step 2: You have to pull the skins of the skis.
    // Step 3: Fix the bucles of your ski boot and lock them into downhill mode.
    // Step 4: Step in your bindings.
    // Step 5: Put on your helmet.
    After following the steps, you are ready for downhill.

    • @dynafit
      @dynafit  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Ben, thanks for your feedback on the video :) Regarding your question - for sure there is a bit of practise involved as well but in general it helps to make sure the ski is placed on a rather even ground/surface and that the inclination of the ski is as small as possible. That way you also don't have to twist your leg/foot in any unnatural way. Furthermore stepping into the binding coming with your boot from behind and a 30 degree angle as described by Schorsch makes it easier as well :) Hopefully this helps, let us know if you have any further questions. Can the touring skis "glide" like an cross-country ski with the skins on? Or do these skins just make it like a snowshoe?

    • @dynafit
      @dynafit  Před 2 lety

      Hi Jamie, thanks for your comment. To a certain extent one can also simulate some gliding with the skins on the skis when going forward - especially in the flat. In general the "hair" structure of the skins allow gliding on the forward movement and prevent the ski tourer from gliding backwards at the same time. The forward gliding however is not entirely comparable to cross-country skiing - that means we would not recommend cross-country skiing with your ski touring skis on the slopes :). To sum it up - the movement when walking with skins on the skis is a "dragging" of the ski rather than a "lifting" - so the movement is more similar to cross country skiing than to snow shoe walking if we have to compare it to the one or the other. We hope that helps & let us know if you have any further questions. All the best from your Dynafit Team! #Speedup

    • @dynafit
      @dynafit  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Robert! Thanks for your question and sorry the delay in our response. The binding should not be locked on the downhill for safety reasons - once locked the release will happen a lot later and in case of falling on the downhill your foot is not released from the binding and ski early enough. Hope that makes sense & let us know if you have any further questions! All the best from your DYNAFIT team! #Speedup

    • @dynafit
      @dynafit  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey! Thanks for your comment :) Of course ski touring is a greater effort and incudes less downhill time than when going alpine skiing with chairlift support. The focus is a different one...Physical exercise in winter as well as the fact of being able to reach different mountain places outside of ski resorts can be (among others) a very good motivation though :) Usually and in good snow conditions the way down is always a good reward for the uphill efforts - no matter how short it might be in comparison. Remember, you were a newbie making mistakes and on "someone else's favourite spot being a turd" once too. And perhaps, you could help those you see get better with a few tips instead of being crappy about it.
