For those wondering why the U.S. Navy patented this game, it concerns the upright cabinet. It had a special 3D visor you could wear during gameplay to make the game pop out at you, and make the scaling backgrounds move towards, simulating the actual racing experience. Of course, that was a conversion kit available for the upright. I'm not sure if they had the visor in the cockpit cabinet.
Cant understand why so many arcade collectors pass the game by and left them to be scrapped. Its a really good driving game and only 2nd to feature 3D after Sega Subroc. Sitdown features 4 channel sound and 3 position accelerator Pedal so more like analogue than the switch used in uprights, also has brake pedal. If you get the revs right at start you take off faster than the other cars, 3D is amazing and can be switched on/off while playing. 4 Channel sound is like Dolby 5.1 where the sound goes from front to back speakers as you pass cars. The intro sounds superb sat inside it
This game are freakin difficult. List of circuits : Autódromo Internacional Nelson Piquet Watkins Glen Dijon-Prenois Monte-Carlo Hockeneim Jarama Mexico Suzuka Good job !
One major problem, and it concerns Mexico. That's actually United States Grand Prix West, based out of Long Beach, California. A bit odd, but they could've used Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, which was in the 1987 F1 Grand Prix.
@@mikaknight1855 Furthermore, US Grand Prix West was actually in the KART/Indycar schedule, which featured the likes of Danny Sullivan, Michael Andretti, and Al Unser Jr. And the circuit was also featured in the NES title Al Unser Jr.'s Turbo Racing.
Funny how the background in the games shows all the tall buildings at a track that's supposed to be Watkins Glen, as in real life the track is out in the country, the village of Watkins Glen is a few thousand and near no major cities. Guess they had to add some flair to the game though.
This game has dynamic weather when the tires gonna be exchanged, but the most important 'the babes' (one-piece swimsuit and the white heels, but different races) are still hot as a curly-long blonde haired re bikini girl in Out Run at Area 'A' and the chased long-haired blonde red bikini girl in Operation Wolf (running in the village on 3rd world countries are uncommon)
I had posted a comment explaining it a while back. It's a patent for the 3D visor add-on to both the upright and cockpit cabinets for this game. I believe it played similar to Rad Racer, where the visor projected all the graphics on two different screens, giving the illusion of 3D.
@@TBONE_2004 Yep, I did see it. 😁 I'm just impressed that even a Japanese arcade game was accepted by the United States Armed Forces to feature something. I wonder what practical licensors were there for Nintendo games that aren't industrial nor commercial?
Could you help me! Overhead view racer with night stages where your headlights were very cool lighting the road ahead, remember it from an arcade as a kid any ideas?
@@AL82RetrogamingLongplays It was at the local tennis club and in my mind's eye it is amazing. The search continues! Let me know if you spot anything which may match description! :)

Not bad but your technique is wrong for 5 circuits on 8. You can to have 407 kmh top speed if you take correctly some strategic curves and if you have a good luck with the timing and the position of the others competitors. Exemple : Brazil. After the hairpin before the long straight line...after the long straight line...the left curves take inside et turn the sterring wheel left and straight with regularity in this curve because its not hard curve and to keep the accelerator in the floor. 1, 2,1, 2.You turn left, straight, left, straight for to prevent the rear for chasing or you lost your speed too often you have need during this curve. Before the curves after the pit its possible of to take top speed 407 kmh, its depend of the position of the competitor and your timing. Good luck !!!

Yes Cockpit had 3D Glasses too tho i believe it was an option on them all and depended if Owner paid extra
Modern racing games: We have dynamic weather! It's really impressive!
Continental Circus: Huh. You don't say...
Very true - the car handling gets worse in the wet weather as well!
Awesome! 60FPS looks great still with it. I had this for my old C64 but it didn't look anywhere near this nice
Awesome game . I've played this. Good old times.
There are emulators to play it today, why don't give it a try?
“Taito Legends”! Released in 2005 on Windows
Lord, the number of times I ate that damn sign....
Never realised the other cars hit each other/wipe out so regularly!

Is this a 16 or 32 bit game?
I love the pit sequences. It’s a short tune and animation, but they’re great.
