    EC Henry discussing Colin Cantwell's work: • The ORIGINAL Star Dest...
    The Imperial Cantwell-class Arrestor Cruiser is too damn cool, and I knew I wanted to make one as soon as I saw it onscreen in Andor.
    Materials Used:
    Styrene Sheets (1mm and 0.5mm)
    Styrene rods, half rods, and strips
    Two ribbon bobbins, several bottle caps
    Approximately half of a model JMSDF ship
    Three toy pan lids
    Assorted boxes and doodads from kits I've totally lost track of what they are
    Weld-On 3
    Too much CA glue
    Acrylic paints for basecoating, oils for weathering

    Takes me back to the 80s when I was super into scratch building. Starting with a WWI french tank to Star Wars ATAT Walker then to my own designs; kit bashing using a lath and building my own vacuum former. Tamiya tank parts were the best. It's cool that the end result might look like the star wars model but has the personal touch from choices in the kit parts used. I see nothing wrong with using a 3d printer as long as it is used to make parts not whole models. Cheers!

      Woohoo! Glad you appreciated it, I The deeper I get into this hobby, the more I learn about the dozens, if not hundreds of people whose work on films is seen but not widely credited, or just as often simply not seen at all. Love the chunky imperial speeder from Solo, btw, might be one of my favorite speeder designs in SW.

    The arrestor in Andor just looked amazing 😍. It perfectly captured that 70s, tactile radar dish aesthetic that I can't quite describe. It just felt more Star Wars. Lots of first order ships looked liked shit imo.

    • @Shot5hells
      @Shot5hells Před 8 měsíci

      I went off to look at the first order designs again because I remembered thinking that one with the big cannon in the beginning of ep. 8 was cool, but yeah they're all pretty shit compared to this and all the other movie star destroyer designs. That "Mandator IV Class Star Dreadnought" has an interesting shape for the bridge tower but it just looks like a big, perfectly smoothed pizza slice + without any funky features on the hammerhead tower it seems a bit silly to have such a massive thing elevated above the rest of the ship. The others are just kinda marvel movie looking, uninspired meh.
      I do quite like the new republic ships in ahsoka and the general design language they've developed for the new republic. It's maybe a little too clean and tidy with the white interiors but definitely looks like if the rebellion of the original trilogy turned into a galactic government.

Also a suggestion if you have a model railroad store near you check out the parts by detail associates they have diesel ventilator fans that are GREAT for the interiors of thrust nozzels and freight car brake kits which include small pressure tanks and valves. These are relatively inexpensive around 1 to 5 dollars. I use these combined with other greeblies. It gives you an extra level of detail.
