The Future of Bandsaw Boxes! (Inspired by Michael Cullen)

- Hand Carved Wooden Bandsaw Box! This box was inspired by a fantastic woodworker 'Michael Cullen', I think his bandsaw boxes are amazing and I wanted to give it a go myself. I have changed my design slightly though, by adding no colour and leaving it as natural wood and finally adding a carved leaf lid. I like you like it!
Is that a bandsaw box? Yes it is! In this video I will be making a bandsaw box no one has ever seen before. We all know what a classic bandsaw box looks like, with it’s drawer and side wall. Well this bandsaw box is different! There is no drawer, just a lid. And on the lid is a leaf carving which sets the whole piece of! Enjoy the video!

Awesome project!
I think, this might be your best video so far. The box looks great, I really like the choise of music and the almost 9 minutes went by like a couple seconds, simply amazing.
Looking at the carving you did on the sides of the box I wonder:
If you carve a pattern in the wood, then put some dark paint on it and wipe the access off and sand the surface - would only the carved spots remain dark? And could this give the wood some extra contrast?
Anyway, I'm looking forward to your next project, keep up the great work!

wow Paul! thanks alot, that's high praise. lets hope the video does well then ahah! I tried something different with the music... I went for a slow sort of vibe instead of fast. i think it went well and I'm glad it's for favourite video so far! I did think of something like, but didn't want to risk it. I will have to do some test pieces of wood to see how the stain comes out. but i agree it could look really good.... thanks for the suggestion! see you in the next video!
The slow vibe really fits the project.
But I wouldn't use stain, as it tends to bleed quite a lot. Maybe some sort of acrylic paint? (They can look great on wood)
Hey Paul, Oh sorry yeah i don't know why i wrote stain, Thanks for the paint suggestion. I hear a lot of people use milk paint, which is more a tradition wood finish. ahah i should do some experiments! I'll get some acrylic paint! thanks again!

It was worth every band aid in the End 👍🎩😎 This should be in a art gallery Sean, You take simple inspiration from natural forms as in a fern or tree leaf and drop them into form. The shape was taken from the leaf but adding the opposing angles to the top and base came from you.

if you sprinkle a dash of table salt ,where you will be applying the glue to. it wont shift once you apply pressure with the clamp . true story

Sean Evelegh haven’t seen anybody doing nice ones just black leather ones from northwind they have a big old price tag. It’s the spring loaded button slid catches that are hard to come by.

Nice box, but bullshit title. That box was shown exactly the same way on Fine Woodworking, including the carved pattern, so please do not claim it as your breakthrough invention.

I agree I saw Michael Cullens video over a year ago. This is essentially the same box building technique, you should acknowledge where you got the idea from.
@@douggarson50 , you are correct. In fact, the article on this type of box appeared in the October 2015 issue. I have built this box and several others inspired by the same article. All of the creative credit goes to Michael Cullen.
I really don't wanna be that one asshole with the mean comment, but don't you think that "the future of bandsaw boxes" is a bit of a wanky title?
Like it's a very very nice box and I would totally buy it, but it also just another beautiful bandsaw box of many. The techniques used in this video have been used for ages, it's not even modern, not that that's bad, I just think it was a strange choice for the title, my genuine apologies if you take offence.
But really, it's a very gorgeous box.
