I grew up in a big late Victorian house that had mahogany pillars from the front hall to the living room, and more mahogany pillars from the living room to the dining room. My mother insisted on keeping all the original woodwork in the house, and it was beautiful. Imagine her horror when she was invited back by the new owners and found all that pristine woodwork painted over! It nearly killed her!
That's awful. I don't understand why anyone would do that. I also don't understand beautiful woodwork not being popular. Trends get uglier every year. And I think it's on purpose.

No dishwasher and very little counter space in the kitchen. You'd think that there would be lots of workspace in an old victorian kitchen!!!
I agree the kitchen is a little odd. but I do love the little galley area.
