He left a couple of footprints on the scenes (one was actually taken from the face of a woman he stomped to death), and the detectives were able to find out the make and the model of the shoes and were trying to use this to find him. Unfortunately, then Mayor released this information into public and Ramirez was able to get rid of the shoes. He was caught by a mob of people after an unsuccessful murder attempt, recognized by the mob he was held down and beaten to a pulp until the cops arrived.
