- Lyrics-
Something breaks inside of you with the spectacle of all the shows
With fifteen fights and your six bucks has gone up some promoters nose
Jaded eyes see clearly but only half of what's there
Good old days are far behind what's left is boredom and despair
Sometimes every once in a while
Sometimes every once in a while
It's beautiful I would say, I wouldn't have it any other way
If I said different, that would be a lie
If I said different, that would be a lie, be a lie
What was once rebellion is now clearly just a social sect
But are you just upset 'cause your own social clique has left
Leave when you want 'cause I know that someday I will too
But I won't burn my bridges and be just another jaded fool
Sometimes every once in a while
Sometimes every once in a while
It's beautiful I would say, I wouldn't have it any other way
If I said different, that would be a lie
If I said different, that would be a lie, be a lie
It's beautiful I would say, I wouldn't have it any other way
If I said different, that would be a lie
If I said different, that would be a lie - Hudba
Am I the only one who just listens to punk because I like the music? I wouldn't say I'm part of any culture or have any specific punk attitude, I just listen to punk because I love it
yeah like how I listen to metal and punk
All of my music choices are like that. I listen to what I like, regardless of what punk, etc stands for. Good shit is good shit.
You're not alone.
I listen to punk like that as well. The band doesn't matter.
i think those are the quintessential punk rock crowd types you are referring to that are the opposite of you
I listen to it because I like the music AND I like what it stands for
"What was once rebellion is now clearly just a social sect"
Nothing else really needs to be said about music or scenes these days
Lmao yep
this comment aged well 🤌 authoritarian liberal bullshit has peaked and is in decline. They seriously tried to ally with punk for a moment. Hahaha poor choice. We hate your guts
This is an indispensable album....
Op ivy is the sht
Kimmy Odell tru
it is the shit i blast this shit as i drive
Good Girl. :D
This is my favorite op ivy song
Go to skate music back in the day! Had my friend give me his copy of this album because he was going on a Mormon mission. haha
kevohh10 A lot of these songs were on a skate video I had back in the early 90's. The name of the skate video has escaped me. Had to be an H-Street video.
kevohh10 classic sk8 music
I wore this shirt for a month straight in 2004. Good ole days! ☠️
So good! The anthem of my youth🤘 Still gives me goosebumps after all these years!
2019 amd still jammin this absolutely love it
Where were you in 1993? How about 1989?
2020 June

Oh ya
Why does this question always pop up? Good music ladtz a lifetime
2021
I time traveled backwards to 2020 just now and listened to this
Great album. Has stood the test of time.
So has this comment
Operation Ivy was an American punk rock band from Berkeley, California formed in May 1987. The band was stylistically important as one of the first bands to mix the elements of hardcore punk and ska into a new amalgam called ska punk and was critical to the emergence of Lookout Records and the so-called "East Bay Sound."

This is one of those songs you just cant listen to without blasting the speakers :D

IT'S BEAUTIFUL"
Thanks Jam for all the op, lovin it!
Thanks Islam for all the op,
I'm not even into "punk culture" but for some reason I'm interested in the culture and head-space of an early-90s punk.
God does this bring back so many memories. If only punk could just be punk again
Sadly I wasn't alive to see it in it's prime..
Man. I'm right back in '96.
@punkhartedly I've thought that for YEARS!!! i thought it was just me!!! thank you
I will always love Operation Ivy
Punk; My definition: Music that wants to make you get up and ROCK OUT TILL YOU DIE!!!!!!!!!!!
In my humble opinion the bass lines are what makes Operation Ivy such a stand out act . Same applies to Rancid . It's a true anomaly when Punks Rock bassist out shines most bassist in most all Thrash Metal acts . I'd take Freeman over Ellefson of Megadeth , Newsted of Metallica easily . No comparison .
you know where that comes from though, right? not from any punk influence
@@fatrobdouble Of course there's a lot of blues and jazz in his playing . I know they're a ska band not a punk rock outfit but please tell me what you were gonna say . Before you tell me yes I know the correlation between Ivy and Rancid . I go back many decades with this stuff .
@Dana Dane yeah, basically i'm saying that Freeman has been heavily influenced by rocksteady, roots, dub, ska, dancehall, & ragga....basically, post-Calypso Jamaican music in general. He's more a student of Robbie Shakespeare than he is of Dee Dee Ramone or Sid Vicious.
@@fatrobdouble Yes , I had a feeling you were going to bring up the old British Ska scene from 70s . I'm also well read in how it relates to the original skinheads. Whom not racist or even all white lol . Wasn't my favorite style of music but I definitely respect it and Matt Freeman is huge influence on me as a bassist . I definitely have more practice to go before being on his level. I'd say at least a year of many hours out of the day . Anyways I'm glad there are bands such as Rancid that have brought this style of music to the masses. ( And ) they did off 📴 EPITAPH RECORDS . The same label that quite frankly gave Offspring their big break. Back when they were actually a Punk band .
@@danadane2501 i wouldn't give credit so much to the British ska scene (2-tone/second wave) so much as i would to Jamaican artists... Robbie Shakespeare was one of the most influential bass players on Earth, and you can hear his influence on Matt plus plenty of the British bands in the 70s (especially SLF) and beyond... But yeah, there's also a lot of Trad SH flavors mixed into the Op Ivy-related bands, especially Rancid but of course the Transplants' lead vocalist is called Skinhead Rob, right? But i think that's more fashion/culture. The sound is more Kingston than London. Especially the rhythm section.
This is good stuff.
YES!
Still listening. 2023😊
So true.
Get the feeling Green Day took inspiration from this riff for Platypus.
i just wanna say that for everyone talking about Green Day on here umm these aren't even the lyrics nor is it the tune to Green Day's "Jaded" so....just saying....:\
Sarah Massaker and they don't even sing about the same type of stuff Operation Ivy is all about unity and peace and the song Jaded by Green Day is about a crazy person who is happy with the idea of destruction and death hooray were gonna die !! yeah but Green Day used to be on the same record label as opp ivy
Shhhhh, they're branching away from corporate pseudo-punk, let them explore
This is an earlier version of "Radio." Same subject. Same ode to the appreciation of music.
🍻
"Leave when you want 'cause I know that someday I will too
But I won't burn my bridges and be just another jaded fool..."
Oh yeah, Jesse (Michaels)? How'd that work out for ya? What? Were Big Rig and Common Rider your intended legacy from the beginning? I was a huge fan of your lyrics, but whatever inspired you in this band did not carry over into your other projects.
Want to know what I think? 4 friends with a common passion for what they were doing, treating one another as equals with no "star" of the band was the Spirit behind Operation Ivy. You guys were great as a team. Tim and Matt were a pair already. They were briefly in another band before Operation Ivy, and they've been smart enough to stick together ever since. Good friends are hard to find. I'd hate to think we were all deprived of more Operation Ivy these last 27 years because of something petty. You guys have a golden opportunity to get your shit together by 2019 for a 30 year anniversary special release of Energy. That's three years to warm up to the idea, get the legalities, and rights squared away, and give your lifelong fans the one thing they've wanted since 1989: More Operation Ivy with the same social-political edge it had at its peak. Grow up, get in the studio together, find Dave if possible, and pump out 3 or 4 new studio recordings to add to the 30 Year Album. Hell, why not let Lars play a role in it, too? Unite your damn selves. Play a few shows. To me that would be heaven on Earth.
+joe defiant I appreciate the encouragement. Bud, I have nothing against anyone but facts are facts whether you want to accept them or not. I love OpIvy and everything that came after. But it would have been nice to have more from this band and we as fans all got robbed. What's worse is that ass-crack of a band Green Day got its break becausr OpIvy didn't play at their record release show, and they-Green Day, did instead.
joe defiant yeah. sure. he spills paint on paper now and can't pay his bills. you're right. he really probably never wanted more than that from life. idiot
I was thinking, well said. Seeing Jerry and Henry playing again made the fans of the Misfits so happy. And what I saw was a great show. Just another example. I'd be so happy if they did what you said and I could see them live.
Semper Fry grow up
I'm definitely non sectarian and ya know sometimes country music is punk rock and so can be symphony! It all depends on the moment
billy joe was like the same age as matt freeman at the time i think they used to go into town to see them they were all i wanna say between 15-18 at the time from what ive got over the years anyways
somtimes everyonce in a while ,beautiful i would say i wouldnt have it any other way if it was said differnt that would be a lie!
Talk about some Jaded comments down here
Recuerdo que me robaron el disco compacto de esta banda , así de buena es.
nicce
Thanks for this. And to all the peanut gallery -- If it's good, it's good! They aren't competing with each other, so why do some people try to do it for them??
@DanielDumile Hells yeah, have for about 15 years!!
Green Day was on Lookout WITH Op Ivy. Green Day wasn't always Americas suck-pump.
I hate the internet sometimes.
I'll Never forget these times, best of my life...
Green day was once upon a Time a band named sweet children. .. they were not these so called "suck pumps" you speak of ..
operation ivy fucking kicks ass
2020
Fuck yeah, Operation Ivy is Hardline Rude Boy!
Check out my demo of Jaded!
Coming up in a few minutes!
yea it is but its also an operation ivy song
not quite sure the comments between green day and op ivy. green day was hooked up with op ivy at one time. green day went their way and op ivy essentially became rancid. I know that is going back and may be tough for some to realize.
psuphish05 Tim and Billy Joe are cousins that's why Op Ivy and Green day hooked up.
Its music people and once yoo feel it no one can tell its shit.
@jaws553 there are many songs with the same name. and considering you thought this was greenday's jaded, u may wanna listen to them a little more
Imagine reading elvis shit from 1977, I see its good to have a history to look back on, but seriously, there are so many that only hear it for their heads. A rotating motel in the mind, listen and let it go, it’s the past said and done. Make the new shit better than ever or be subtle with it. Relax and enjoy
@starchmonkey hahaha yeah goes to show that it made sense to people!
@LambOfJesus360 must have been jaded :) haha
Why the fuck are there commercials, advertising is the complete antithesis of this album
@DanielDumile luh you too
@DanielDumile LOL Well I was just enjoying some old school music and stumbled across your comment. I felt the need to respond. ; )
@TheJayman213 dude i hate it when they have to make rock perfect. imperfection is character and beauty. and on that guy decided it would be a good idea to double up kurts voice for some reason
@poyweson well, I like this AND Green Day, so...
@punkhartedly I think its just you. I don't see it (or hear it, rather).
this sounds like the begging of Mtv get off the air by dead kennedys a lil bit
@GN0MEz what do you like?
@Solidleoncheif but, it's not necessarily their fault. notice that they got a new producer for their new album which is by far the smoothest and least punk. well, it's the same guy that produced Nevermind, an album with which Kurt Cobain was not pleased at all cus he didn't want it that smoothed out. so i guess it would've turned out way different if it weren't for Butch Vig.
Look up the age of this band!
2020 at home due to the plague.
The irony.. it's this BS sort of stupid bickering that lead to Jesse leaving Op Ivy in the first place. "We need a gathering instead."
Geza X is pretty sweet
@RoundTableinc i blast it with earbuds so its concentrated and because no one my age deserves to listen to it (im 14 and my generation sucks)
So yeah.... I like small label punk bands, but I am a hardcore Green Day fan, and even though the true punk community still hates Green Day for switching to a major label record company and becoming "mainstream" but the truth is I Green Day is closer to punk than Justin Beiber, Lady Gaga, etc. And even though their newest album isn't "punk," it still has punk themes to it.
it does sound like the dea kennedys but a little better
@GoodSydeBill no you!
im a rocker, a metalhead, and a punk, but i will never like pop or new wave or any shit like that. this should clear up alot of arguements if you understand the bigger picture to what im saying.
@LambOfJesus360 Band names??!?
@Laidleypunk12 Green Day doesn't suck because they have a song with the same title, they suck because they suck, it's not bitching just simple facts =D
@whatupmaaan then why did the ramones call them punk
@jaws553 this came first.... and its better
@greendaykicksass1101 because the ramones thought they were punk. but i dont. to me punk is an attitude, not really how music sounds. green day was always sorta that gap between 90's mid tempo alt rock and melodic punk. so they never came off as "punk" to me. but i actually like some of their stuff a lot, even though i dont really own anything past nimrod. so yeah to sum it up, if you want them to be punk, they're punk. if you dont want them to be punk, they're not punk. its the listeners choice
@coboopoo123 Thank you. What I want to write on all these stupid posts people put up.
ROOOOOOCK!
Topic for commentors; Would you have it any other way than this?
@TheJayman213 early green day shit rules. But they got to sounding too Pop sounding.
@djblufire minor threat there probrebly the best punk band to be honest
...
@djblufire if u insist on American tho..........Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Agent Orange, Fear, Minor Threat, Circle Jerks, Bad Brains, Gang Green
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK.
Why are people complaining about who's punk and who's not, Look i'm not gonna say i'm a punk... I just listen to "Punk Rock" but I am FAAR from punk, because from what i understand to be a punk, You have to do YOUR OWN thing, and not judge other people, let others live as they want, you don't even have to listen to punk music in that case to be punk either -_- oh and it's not a fashion, its a way of life... so LET ME CLARIFY, I AS WELL AS MOST OF YOU ARE NOT PUNKS
i think what he is trying to say is that he got over the whole "Im more punk than you" shit.
@starchmonkey hahahahaha geez you sound pissed
did green day cover this or did they get this from green day
Farter Smellington covered it.
This is really hard to play on the drums
i didnt till ur comment
operation ivy did it first, i guess they are pretty good
@daveboostify yeah. but i dont care. opinions are opinions
@DanielDumile
me!
@JMort95 ya.......NO
well then, you must not know where they both came from...
@lindagmx SWEET CHILDREN ;D
i wish every song was auto replayed until u exit
dude you're craze. Understand the difference between music. There are names of different types for a reason. If people like this stuff, AND classify it as punk (which it is) where is the harm in that man? just cause you got over this punk shit, as you've said, doesn't mean that it shouldn't be called punk. This is what people like, get over it. Good for you that you like whatever is good, to some, this IS what is good. Understand that
I don't want to hear about Green Day on a Operation Ivy video!
@justfukoff88 I'm 21. Good for you man, its always good to have eclectic tastes. I honestly think trying to prove how punk you are based on what you listen to is stupid and meaningless.
@zep311aic
nothing against you- but i hate that "mall punk" is a pejorative term. for a lot of kids in the late 90's and early 00's the punk o' rama and fat wrekcords mixtapes from hot topic were our only access to this kind of music.
@ikillurchildren Sick im 14 too =D
@djblufire wats wrong with British, i mean the Exploited and shit like that sucks, but dude, check out Wire, The Clash, The Ruts, The Buzzcocks, Stiff Little Fingers(technically these guys are Irish), but still, these are great bands
Those "labels" are called genres, to rate a music off of its genre is stupid.
