This is the best version. Sounds like it was from the Beyond & Back album/cd. Clear harmonies, loud/soft shifts. Well done. That entire 2nd CD in the set is simply great music.
I saw Alvin a few times on tour with X in the mid-80s, iirc. Alvin was **the only** suitable replacement for the greatness of Billy Zoom. I grew to like Tony, and this is a great song in the late opus of the band. I love this song, but I today I find myself searching for live versions with Zoom playing lead.
The song IS on See... but the Doe-produced demo is on the excellent 2-CD Beyond and Back anthology (also including the much-better version of 'See How We Are').

Dave Alvin is playing guitar on this recording, and on this album as a whole. Billy Zoom had left, and Tony Gilkyson had yet to join.
