Haha, Prakken (verb) is a beautiful Dutch word. 👍👍 You can also 'prak' your car/bike., meaning you crashed your car/bike in an accident.🥴
Her bicycle was not stolen, but was borrowed. They just forgot to bring it back. 😜😂🤣🤣🤣
The birthday calendar on the toilet is very easy to explain. It's a practical thing. You don't forget anyones birthday because you go to the toilet several times a day... simple.
..
There's a family of Syrian refugees who live in my street, the first time the sirens were tested after they moved here they freaked out completely. Now being a good Dutchie I speak 6 languages, but our new neighbour didn't speak Dutch, English, German, French, Spanish or Afrikaans.
In the end using Google translate to translate into Arabic I managed to calm the lady down and convince her that she and her children are safe here and that because it's the first monday of the month exactly noon, it's just a test.
But yeah that stuff is NOT funny for refugees who aren't used to it. I can't imagine the PTSS something like that must trigger for them, and frankly I hope I will never be able to fully grasp that kind of terror, because that implies I'd have lived through it.
Too funny!😂. Thanks for sharing your personal addition to this.
born as dutch but the ''new'' phone version of the alarm still gives me hearth attacks
en wat een kut geluid.. liever de sirenes
Her Dutch pronunciation is excellent.
LOL @ you and your parents! Awesome!
Spread the Dutch culture there, my man!
About "Hallo, get in here!"; that isn't very sarcastic, that's more comedic.
You use it when somebody for instance does something rude or stupid, and it's often like: "Hallo zeg!"
Edit: Okay I need to keep watching before I type reactions. inb4: "Hallo zeg!" to this post! ;-)
Okay I can't control myself: mashing your veggies? Jesus, that's what farmers used to do till the 1980's or so! That is just wrong!
I wanted to say something about her "Dus..." but that got deleted somehow, and that's a good thing because a bit later it gets addressed in this video! :P
That stuff about the bikes (transporting much with it, and having it stolen) is more in the big cities, especially in the west.
There you have it, dus ... 😂
That's why the air raid alarm only goes off at the first monday of the month at noon exactly. That's why there is no panic. It is a monthly check if it's still working. I know it since.... my while life. Nothing strange here!!!!!
For a while they changed the montly alarm test to once a year. I completely freaked took my bunny inside, closed doors and windows, OMG what's going on, there's a disaster. It was nothing. Once a month is better at least you know when it's supossed to be and therefore also when it's a real disaster. So I'm glad we're back to once a month.
the birthday calendar thing on the toilet was quickly removed by my German wife, so i gave it up ..... but i did win the ......krantenbak war..... in our toilet..... maybe i will try it again with the calender at some point..... grts from a dutch cheesehead, living in Allemania.....
with that testing of ther air raid alarms i always think that if we're ever going to get attacked in any way again they are most likely going to do that on the first monday of the month.
We also used to have a book full of jokes, not just the birthday calendar. Lol.
I still have it! No calendar...but a book with wisdoms and jokes.
The Max Tailleur jokes book!
I should knock on wood, but I've never had a bike stolen. And 'Dus' can mostly be translated to 'So'.🤘🍀🇳🇱
Ja hallo! Dus...
Dus.... one thing is certain: we Dutchies know how twisted and bizar our habits sometimes are, but we love it! And often, there is a reason for the things we do. But the most important thing is that people can laugh about their own habits. Don't take yourself too serious and be open and helpful to others. And a compliment for her, nearly accent less, Dutch pronouncement. And don't mess with our bikes! It's a personal thing for us.
If you start complaining about the weather every day, then you know you become dutchified
Buses until 12 but weekends until 1 am
The bike lock is more expensive than the bike because your mobility is more valuable than the comfort of a bicycle.
My moutenbike is also Closed 3x! The last time was when my "Kroegfiets" had a FLAT TIRE. And me € 5900 Bicycle. Got Closed! The Moutenbike, 2 months older, was standing next to it. Because we used his lock to double lock mine on a steel fence. 2 broken locks, and 1 older malt bike!
..mountain...
I stopped prakken to resist my parents who still do that. Its kind of weird to do that with food 🤣
I hear Tikkie being explained as an app, but it’s more a feature of Dutch banking in general. The Tikkie app was the first but the technology behind it is available in most banking apps. The feature is called “instant payment request”.
En intussen ook bekend hier in Duitsland onder de naam "Kwitt" bij de Sparkasse
prakken is Dutch. I do that. The food is still the same, but it is easy/ efficient to eat eat. You don´t need to bite or need your knife. It is the fastest and simply way to eat.
Ik hoefde dat thuis echt niet te flikken hoor. Het is lekker, maar niet erg netjes.
@@Linda-hs1lk Zal je een rot jeugd gehad hebben
Prakken is nice but very unpolite when doing that when you're somewhere for dinner. I wasn't allowed to 'prak' at home, my parents would be pretty pissed off. Only certain foods were allowed to be prakked (love the English version, lol) and that's with the stamppot meals.
So, your parents made your life miserable, if they were good parents they allowed it at home and thought you it's not allowed at a public place
Oh, but when you 'prak', you always need a good jus. 😉
She is true and so funny about the bike things. And here is also a calender at the bathroom. Even a very funny one (rooie oortjes)
I always love her video's
I wish she still made them. She suddenly stopped 2 years ago. I check her channel every few months to see if she's back, but sadly not.
Prakken yeah only my boiled patatos , i leave my veggies alone( eat them nomnomnom) and the word "dus" is so common"
If you don't want your bike stolen, you need two things... A crappy looking bike and a good lock...
Well yes, she nailed being dutch XD
Slowly you will turn it to a Dutchie.
I only use the frame lock on my bike. It isn’t necessary to lock my bike. It’s just a habit I still have from living in a big city for years. One of the big advantages of living in a less crowded area.
Only one bike was stolen at least 20 years ago and they stole my front wheel once (in the city of Groningen).
you must put three locks on your bike. Thieves will go for the easiest target and steal the bikes with one or two locks. When using three locks, never was my bike stolen again.
For me thats true to , if i hear any non dutch accent orso i will speak english
Maybe the discord can make a birthday callender for highly 😁
@highly what do you eat, if you don't eat vegetables? 🤔
I like her she is cute
Hallo highly!!!!! Hahaha
I like this video higly and i so some things we are doing sometimes guilty thanks higly ❣️
i think whit the alram its a test to work fine every month.think we got that from ww2.but im not sure
the bike/ lock thing is not Dutch, but in Holland.
In the Netherlands
@@mariadebake5483 No, you are from Holland. I am from Eindhoven, the Netherlands. My bike is good and will not stolen. In Amsterdam, Rotterdam it will be. Aub, laat mij niet uitleggen wat het verschil is tussen nederland en zuid/ noord holland.
@@jurgenkersjes2150 I am from the Netherlands, not from Holland. Ik woon in Tilburg. Hoe kom je erbij dat ik Hollandse zou zijn???
Waarom reageer je dan met the Netherlands? Paul weet het verschil al tussen Nederland en Holland.

Winkelwagentje hha
I'm asking myself for a long, long time... where does your interest in NL from? I see a lot of (realy nice) episodes about the Dutchies :)
I think it started with Floor Jansen, watched more Dutch music, culture video's, et cetera
Whenever I come across a calendar on the toilet I always write Adolf H. on Hitler's birthday, "Aunt Janet" on a random date and copy a mentioned name to a few months later, but enough about me.
Omg 😂😂😂😂
😂😂
Stealing bikes sadly is a national 'hobby' so the chance it will happen to you, especially when living in the city, is maybe 90%. Often people use 'station' bikes. Cheap bikes that when being stolen isn't a great loss. Also they probably just steal another station bike that happens to be there. And that's how bikes change owners a lot...
Well, those alarms nowadays is coupled to your phone. Basically you will get notifications specifically for your area, like fires in a harbour of toxic fumes near a factory.
Thats wrong!
Those sirenes are on roofs and are tested every month.
That will not happen on your phone!
@@sjefhendrickx2257 no, it's not wrong. You get the same sirene where you live. It is an addition to the warning. Which was instigated by the fireworks mishap in Enschede. They decided it needed a more local respons. That is why it was developed.
@@sjefhendrickx2257 Nope you're wrong I had an alarm on my Phone not to long ago because there was a big fire nearby. It nearly gave me a heart attack. 2 phones going off at the same time when I wasn't expecting it.🤣
About the switching to English part: it is maybe funny to know that we are actually scoping you out. We don't only want to know IF you are a foreigner, but we also want to know from which country you are. This is because of two things. If we are capable of speaking your native language we will (try to) switch to that. Many Dutch people can speak French or German besides English. Most of us not fluently, but at least at an understandable level. Most of us have been taught (at least one of those) languages at school. When we have determined your origin and we don't speak your language and see you struggeling with ours we will first try English. If you don't speak English though and are not from a neighboring country, we will try to use our hands, arms and fingers to communicate. The point is, we will make an effort. It's not like : "No habla espanol" Have a nice day and get lost. We are trained to try and communicate. In doing so we get better at it as well.
That happens to me, I live in Leiden and when I was learning dutch people will change and they will speak to you in English, so I couldn't practice much 😢
Dus......
Anywhoooooo.... 😉
I think she has to visit the rest of the Netherlands because except point 6-7-9 the rest is not "normal" for me so i'm affraid allthough i'm born and lived for 53 years in the Netherlands i'm not a Dutchman. 🤔
Funny as a dutch person a hardly ever use the word dus.. I always found it was way overused and therefor I have always been careful to not use it at all..must be my frisian background
You don t eat vegetables? Then what do you eat?
Hi. I would suggest to bring your parents with you when or IF you visit our country.....! 😁
But I can understand why they get annoyed if you mention things about our country too often. I would too if my children would tell me all the time how great, or funny or whatever, things are(seem?) elsewhere! 😅😘ps and by the way I do not agree with everything this girl or other vloggers from other countries, say about the Netherlands. I myself lived in other parts of the world. And from experience I can say that you never really know how it is exactly. You have an impression and the only way is to try adjust to the habit of the place where you live. Including the language. People will admire you for that. 🥰👋
Prakken is actaly your vegetaties WITH pataties on your plate?
Dus!
As if the word BUT isnt like the word Dus...
Dus..... ;-)
Why don't you eat vegetables???
The Netherlands lost 50% of our identity, wealth and freedom when joining the EU and adapting the worthless Euro. O how i miss the Guilder.
what do you keep putting in your mouth all the time. it is very annoying
I mean...it's my mouth. Don't see me worrying about what you put in yours. It is mint leaves if you absolutely must know. I used to be addicted to chewing tobacco, I decided that was not very healthy for me and switched it up to Non-Tobacco, Non-Nicotine minty goodness. People get annoyed at the simplest of things... Can't please them all I suppose.
He is just hisself. Sometimes he is shaking. A lot of times I shaking with my mouth. Everyone has a thing. He his just hisself and I like it. Otherwise he was a blond woman with big tits. That is what people want to see, But I understand your thing.
